What options does Arizona have at QB (1 Viewer)

Blackjacks

D Anderson is obviously not the guy and Max Hall is just as bad. I see a rookie starting there next year personally, probably Ryan Mallet cause I don't think their pick will be good enough to get Luck (who if I was Arizona I would mortage the farm to get).

Is there any young qbs stashed on teams as backups currently that others here think are Matt Schaub like or any veterns that are FA or tradeable that could get lured out to the desert (Carson Palmer)

Let me know some of your thoughts.

If you want my guess it is Ryan Mallet as your starting Qb next year in Arizona and I don't know if that is a good thing.

Brett Favre will be a free agent!

I KNOW IT SOUNDS CRAZY... BUT WITH FITZ, AND BEANIE, AND IN A WEAK DIVISION...

I can't think of any backup that would be anything more than a project. Josh Johnson has shown talent.

I guess they could go after Kolb.

Man, I had to turn the game off. Unreal.

Even a monkey could be trained in about 4 weeks to throw the ball in the vicinity of Fitz or Breaston. This guy has not gotten any better!

WTF was Wisenhunt thinking?

Maybe the Browns cut Delhomme and go with McCoy? Carson Palmer might get cut? Alex Smith? I'm just throwing names out there who seem likely to change teams.

Get Kurt Warner Back Into Uniform Next Year Or The Cardinal Fans Are Probably Going To Suffer Thru Another Season That's Just As Bad As This One Was.

What was awful about the game, and Anderson specifically, is the lack of arm strength for Anderson to throw to his left. 90% of his balls went to the right, or up the middle, with the majority of his passes going to the right.

If I can pick this up, DC's are laughing during gameplanning.

AZ may have to reach for Locker or mallett.

Larry Fitzgerald is wasting away

Lots of options

Cards will have high pick...trade back in the middle/bottom of 1st round and draft a QB.

Cards will also be getting comp picks for all the free agents that left last year.

Bulger + draft a QB in 1st/2nd round + Skelton

Trade for

Vince Young

Kyle Orton

Kevin Kolb

Mike Vick

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Jon Kitna

the backup for Detroit

They won't get Luck if he declares. He will go #1 overall and it will take a king's ransom to get that pick.

Locker is not the answer and Mallett seems like a huge gamble. In a best case scenario he could be another Roethlisberger. In a worst case scenario he could be another DA/JaMarcus. He's dumb as a post and that could be a problem at the next level. If I were Arizona I would take a look at a more modestly-priced sleeper like Kellen Moore in the draft.

As for free agency/trades, here are some candidates:

Kevin Kolb

Kellen Clemens

Vince Young

Alex Smith

Josh Johnson

Marc Bulger

Rex Grossman

Brady Quinn

Dennis Dixon

Sadly, any one of these guys would be an improvement over the dreck on Arizona's roster. You can't win anything in the NFL without a QB, so they should do whatever it takes to fix the problem.

Not that he would go to Arizona but Vick will be a FA.

Dennis Dixon would have played to Troy Smiths level tonight. Hell, Kirk Herbstreet is a street FA!

He probably thought that they would need to transition to a power running team and (hopefully) only needing a "game manager" for a QB.

The Cards have way more issues than at QB. Those special teams are atrocious, as is the run defense. When a washed up, 31 yr old RB gouges you for 136 yds and a 6 ypc avg you've got serious problems. Although, that did have to be one of the worst QB performances I have ever witnessed, and why they didn't yank him is mind boggling.

I would expect them to address it in the draft but IF they were to pull a trade, I would look at Matt Flynn. A lot of people familiar with him in Green Bay say he is the real deal and I think a lot of people trust how the Packers bring up their QBs since so many have had success.

2nd option may be that if the Bills draft Luck, Fitzpatrick becomes a hot trade commodity.

They definitely need to do something. Not only is this terrible but Fitz has the option to walk after next season and he won't stay if the team is going to flop around for a few years while he is in his prime. For that reason, I would expect the Cards to make a big move that looks really good on paper.

I thought Fitz was unrestricted FA after this year, if so, he's gone. He cant stay there with a developing QB. He's too good.

I can see him in New England, or maybe even my Steelers!!

As for their QB, they will draft so high they can pick from Locker, Mallet, Newton, whoever. THey can potentially fix that problem, but they might as well rebuild the whole team(keep Beanie around).

Marc Bulger
Some of the Cardinals staff REALLY wanted Bulger this summer but by the time Whiz had decided he couldn't roll with Leinart, Bulger had already signed....although personally I would have been and still be concerned about Bulger's concussion history and outlook going forward......BUT for one season to be on board for OTA and work with Skelton and whomever they get in the draft (regardless of whether a higher/more ready or later project pick) would be a reasonable way to go.

DA is horrible, and Hall wasn't much better. For this offense to perform this poorly with all of their weapons, shows just how bad they have been. I would think that they should give Skelton a shot before the end of the year. While I don't think that he is the answer for this year, at least they could see if he has any future potential, and he couldn't possibly be any worse than DA.

I wouldn't rule Hall out yet, he is just a rookie :hot:
He's too small with lack of arm strength and please don't bring up Brees. They will probably take Mallett or possibly get lucky enough to get Luck.I am really starting to question weather or not Whiz was a product of Warner and Denny Greens drafts. Perhaps Pittsburg knew what we are just now finding out and thats Whiz and Grimm and just not very good.

One year without a HOF QB and now the two coaches are no good? QB is everything in the NFL, everything. The decisison to move on from Leinart left them with nothing and they should take blame for that, but lets see who they bring in next year.

Bulger is awful

Again, I would mortgage the farm for Luck

I think Kolb, Orton and Young would all be nice options also although I don't see Young ending up there

The NFL is all about the QB. You can see the difference in St.Louis with getting bradford. If they think Luck is the guy - then get him. I do think Orton would be a great trade for Arizona - probably cost a ton less than the #1 pick too. I think Denver would jump at a 1st round pick for Orton.

I can't believe my eyes! You guys consider VY a "good" option for the Cards? He has shown nothing!!!

Hell, I say bring in JaMarcus, VY, and Ryan Leaf. One of 'em has to be legit, right?

:goodposting:

I would not consider VY a good option either, but please don't lump him in there with Ryan Leaf and Russell. Vince won a good number of games over his short career with the Titans, is a two time pro-bowler, and has better stats than both of the other mentioned QBs. I think Arizona's best bet would be trading for someone, and I don't believe Luck will enter the NFL draft this year. I am his age and knew him personally in high school. He went to Stanford for academics over everything else, and I don't think he will leave before getting his degree. Arizona should make a play for Kolb or Orton. I don't see VY as a good fit regardless of public opinion on his ability.

You're right. That was too harsh. :P

He did go to a better team with better coaching than the other too though.
