What teams sit starters week 17 (1 Viewer)

I am trying to figure this out. In the NFC, I don't see any team sitting their starters. If the Falcons have a big lead in the 3rd quarter, I think they will bench them. Likewise, the Saints may bench their players if they see the Falcons winning.

In the AFC, the Chiefs and Patriots are likely to sit starters.

Any thoughts?

i saw a quote from haley earlier today that basically said the chiefs aren't sitting their starters.

Payton confirms Saints won't rest starters

Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed Tuesday that he will not rest his starters in Week 17 with the No. 1 seed in the NFC still alive.

"If the time slots were different, then it might be a different approach," said Payton. "But we're doing everything we can this week full speed ahead." The Falcons and Saints both play at 1:00 ET next Sunday, with the Bears-Packers game slated for a 4:00 start. The Saints can't afford to take their foot off the gas pedal at this point. Does Woodhead become the RB1 or does he rest as well?

I'm thinking Fred Taylor will get a heavy workload but does that leave Woodhead with his usual role?

My main concern is whether AP gets shut down for Week 17. 4 days rest and nothing to play for has me concerned.

The Patriots don't strike me as a team that would rest starters very much. Billicheat is notorious for going all out regardless of the score or situation and I think that most of the usual suspects for New England would get their usual work. Welker may be one lone exception though.

The Jets are a team to watch. LT might not get as much work as normal which would make Shonn Greene a sneaky play against a Buffalo team he ran all over earlier this year.

Since the Vikings won tonight, I believe you can add the Bears and Eagles to the list of NFC teams that will likely bench their starters for a significant part of the game. The Eagles definitely have nothing to play for and could use week 17 to rest up. The Bears won't have anything to play for if either the Falcons or Saints win. I know Lovie says beating the Packers is a priority, but he only played his starters during the 1st half when they played at the end of 2006 (Chicago had already locked up the #1 seed.)

Update after tonight: Well, the Falcons and Saints games are early, so if the Bears see that they have no shot at a #1 seed they might rest their starters against the Packers. And the Eagles now have nothing to play for, of course.

edit: ^ damn beaten by a minute

If the Jets have nothing to play for..............why would they risk Shonn Greene with lots of touches when he looks like the better RB (between he and L.T.) this late in the season? Just curious.......as Shonn Greene is an option for me.

Lots of mixed signals from Rex this week. He may start Sanchez because he is on a roll. He may not play Sanchez. He may pull him after a while. Same goes for the rest of the team. Who knows? He did say that he wants to beat Buffalo to get that 11th (and meaningless win imo). I'm going to guess that McKnight gets most of the carries this week, but it's difficult to say until we hear more later this week.

I see Brady playing his normal workload and maybe getting pulled if the Pats are up big or down big late in the game. Considering that the team already has a bye week coming up, I see most of the starters getting normal reps. The Eagles losing means that Vick/DJax/McCoy owners are going to have a tough decision to make.

With Vick taking a beating this past week I am hoping the Eagles give him a week off in a meaningless game. He has earned it. We play a title game in week 17, and I have only Vick and Kolb on my roster, I would be OK with Kolb as a full game starter as opposed to Vick getting in for a half.

I think the Eagles will rest their guys quite a bit. Reid's track record is to sit his guys once playoff seed is determined. He punted the last two weeks of the 2004 season after they had clinched the No. 1 seed, and he pulled his starters in the first quarter of a 4 PM week 17 game a few years ago after learning that their seed had been locked in.

Vick could use the rest, he's obviously hurting. I would not be surprised to see Kolb start and play the whole game. I think McCoy, Jackson, Maclin and Celek will start, but probably won't play the second half.

Are the Jets locked into the #6 seed or could they get the #5?

I read that Philip Rivers may sit part of his game due to nothing to play for. If they have that mind set for Rivers, it may be for just about all fantasy starters on that team. I'm hoping that they play it out but that's what CBS was reporting.

I seriously doubt it. I've never seen a team that is eliminated sit players unless they are hurt.Rivers will play the entire game, I'm sure of it. He's a professional and is being paid to play.

Here are my thoughts (Week 17 is a huge week for me in two leagues, I hate leagues that end in week 16, but that's another thread)

Patriots--It seems like traditionally, Brady will play the first half and a bit into the 2nd quarter. I think it's safe to say he'll get 200 yards passing and a couple TD's. BB will want them on a roll, and knows he has 2 weeks to rest up. That being said, he won't be silly. Welker could get benched, though.

NYJ -- It's meaningless, so I'm not sure what will happen here. I think LT and Sanchez will be rested. Will they risk Shonn Greene as well? I have Greene and have a tough decision to make on that front.

KCC -- I think Haley will play his starters in this game as he says he will. But I do think he'll limit Charles a bit before he unleashes him in the playoffs. I get a feeling that this team could make some noise in the playoffs.

Philly -- Philly would be wise to rest as many starters as they can. This is a smallish team with tons of speed, and they are beat up. At the very least, I'd be shocked if Vick or Desean suited up. Both could use a week of rest. Maclin and McCoy? Who knows. I think Jerome Harrison is a sneaky pickup just in case McCoy gets benched.

Chicago -- Keep an eye on this one, as Lovie could easily bench his starters.

bump.

Philly is now looking more like they will be sitting a lot of guys. They are, however, playing Dallas with Stephen McGee at QB so I'm not sure what this game looks like.

#EA Rookie RB Joe McKnight will "get a ton of playing time" against the Bills says Ryan. LT will probably sit. It sounds like Greene may only play a little bit.
