What to do with Ray Rice (1 Viewer)

What are others doing with Ray Rice over the next 3 weeks, playing the Steelers, Redskins, and Broncos? Those are 3 VERY good rushing defenses, though I know Rice is about as matchup proof as you can get. Have others traded him recently (in dynasty), and what would you look for if you haven't? Or are you just going to roll with him over the playoffs against these teams?

My thought was to trade him for another RB with an easier playoff run (Lynch or Charles) and see if I can get a nice kicker on top of it, like a future 1st round pick or top 12ish WR.

Are you rolling with him, or have you sold on him?

Fellow Ray Rice owner, that also owns Ryan Mathews and Doug Martin (start 2 RB, no flex). I'm rolling with Rice and Martin each and every week from here on out. Unless you have a stud on your bench other than Rice, I don't think this should be over analyzed -- You start Rice, whom you drafted top 2-3...

In this case, unless you have a guy with a super sweet playoff schedule that you can rationalize better production from (like a Jamaal Charles or maybe you have Bryce Brown right now), you just dance with the one you brought to the party. With top 5 Rbs, you just can't waste much time questioning it.

I was hoping to trade him for a RB with a "super sweet playoff schedule" like Charles, and get a kicker of a future pick or something on top of it. Just seeing if anyone had done that already seeing this brutal stretch on the horizon. I love Rice and all, even saw him play in college, but the road to a championship might not be paved with Steeler or Bronco matchups.....

Our league's trade deadline is over so that's not an option for me.

He was playing mediocre anyway so not much in return for a trade even if I could do it.

He's had 15 points or less in the last five games. I expect the same for the next 3 weeks.

Wash, Denver and the NYG's are going to be tough. But, how can you sit him? I can't.

My other RB's are:

Ridley - tough schedule

McCoy - who knows when he's bak and what role he has. Most likely RBBC with Brown.

MJD - might be back for a game or two but what shape's he in? How much will they ease him back?

Got to ride Rice for the playoffs and hope he gets decent rush/pass yds. and a td each week.

With Roethlisberger out, you have to feel that Rice will get extra chances against the Steelers, and maybe great field position after Charlie Batch throws a pick.

Starting Charles against Carolina over Rice this week. It's a tough decision as Baltimore likes to lean on Rice a little more as the year goes on, but Carolina has a tendency to make no name RB's look like pro-bowlers, so hoping for serious points from Charles.

Rice's ability to catch the ball means he is a must-start no matter how tough the matchup appears. Against the Steelers defense last year, he had 149 yards and 2 TDs and followed up with 86 yards and a TD. And outside of the Houston blowout, he hasn't had any other terrible games yet this season.

Besides, he's pretty good at 4th and 29. As far as I know, he's 100% from that down and distance.

you play him./thread

What do you do w/ Ray Rice? You start him every damn week and gripe later about how Cam is an idiot & how Flacco is trying to audible his way into a big contract. At least that's what I do.

I haveRiceMartinSpillerSprolesI won't sit Rice for any reason. RB1 potential every start.
It is one thing to bench him for Brown or Matthews or some of the other names we see in here, but you are just being stubborn. You have 3 top 10 fantasy backs this year, if you can only start 2 you play the match ups.

Why would you ever bench Rice?
You have Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster and you can only start 2 backs
To be fair I wasn't saying I'd bench him, I'm saying I was thinking of trading him (trade deadline tomorrow at 1 PM kickoffs). If I can get a RB who has a great schedule over the next 3 weeks (Charles comes to mind, but there are others) and still land a future 1st round pick or top 15ish WR, I'd really, really think about that in a dynasty league. I love Rice as much as the next guy (saw him play in college, loved him there, still have family at Rutgers), but this 3 game stretch is brutal and I'd hate to miss a shot at my championship (or just getting to it), because I was stubborn and started Rice against Pitt or the Redskins defense when another RB I could have traded for goes off for 3 straight 100+ yard games with a TD against far easier defenses. That's all I'm saying....

Non PPR, if you have other really good options (say Peterson/Martin) I could see sitting Rice, but other than that I don't know how you sit him.

PPR he has been consistant every week. I own him in a 1 PPR league and his low week is 10.4 points against HOU. basically he is a guaranteed 10 points with an average of 19. How on earth do you sit a guy like that? I don't think he has a game this year where he wasn't top 20 for the week. This is why you drafted him in the first place

Also have Martin and Spiller. They are in over Rice this week- they've been just as studly and have better matchups. Always a tough decision though.
I'm benching Rice for Spiller as well. /shakes crystal ball...eta to add non-ppr

Rice is RB #4 in my PPR league, #4 in my non-PPR league. The bottom has not fallen out. I don't know what kind of scoring system some of you guys are in but he's an auto-start in mine.

I don't get the bickering in these type of threads. He's an auto-start 98% of the time, yes. It all depends on your roster, scoring system, etc. Barring severe weather factors and/or injury considerations, you could name the guys on one hand who you would NEVER bench. Maybe ADP, Foster & Calvin? The point is, there's a lot of factors in deciding who to start. The people who are benching Rice, including me, aren't saying he's not a top tier RB or that he's not capable of a great performance against Pitt. The FBG projections for the week agree that there are a few better options if you happen to have 2 of them. As long as you aren't overthinking situations and benching top 5 players for much lesser options, I don't think you can stick your head in the sand for the whole year and say you'll absolutely never remove someone from your starting lineup.

I was going to do this too, but given the unpredictability of JC's situation, I'm sticking with Rice. Fully expect it to be the wrong decision

Ouch, man!

Steelers :homer: here - the run defense isn't all that great. I don't care what the stats say - the pass defense has been superior. I don't know how you could sit Rice.

You were saying?

That's why you do nothing but start Rice every game.

Can we put this with the why is Calvin Johnson not scoring enough thread please
Why?! The guy had 15 touches yesterday, and not a single one in the 4th quarter. If it wasn't for that TD run, this was a very, very bad start for him, and would have been his worst of the year. Now he gets to face the Redskins, who I know will be on a short week, followed by the Broncos who just pretty much shut down Doug Martin (the closest thing to Ray Rice in the league) to his worst start since week 4. I said this would be a brutal stretch in the OP. I had an offer on the table of J Charles and a 2014 1st round rookie pick, and now I can't accept it as the trade deadline has passed. Not saying that was going to be a great trade, but it may have helped me over the next 2 weeks.....At this point, you put him in your starting lineup and cross your fingers.
