What to make of Santana Moss (1 Viewer)

If you've watched Santana Moss this year, he has been HORRIBLE. I know he's probably been dropped in a lot of redrafts, and understandably so. But the last 2 weeks, the Redskins have taken off Campbell's training wheels so to speak, and let him really open up the offense. In these 2 games, Campbell has thrown just over 560 yards, 34 rushing yards, 5 TDs and 1 INT.

Based on Campbell's recent numbers, and then Moss' game tonight, 12 targets, with 9 catches, 121 yards, 1 TD, is Santana actually worth a start now?

:coffee:

I have both of these guys and have started them almost every week, except, yeah you guessed it, the past two. Thankfully Warner has been decent the past two weeks.

While that COULD happen, I'm not so sure. Moss has only had one REALLY bad game this year, as far as drops go. Most of the putrid numbers were based on him either being out, or limited due to injuries and not able to use his speed to get separation. Add in the boring, predictable play calling during the first 8 or 9 games (1st down run, 2nd down run, 3rd down pass but never over the middle) and you have his type of numbers. But again, just based on what the offense is doing now (hurry up offense, taking shots down field, actually throwing before 3rd down!) it just seems he could have a really big impact over the last part of this season. If not Santana, then someone in that offense (Cooley, ARE, Thrash) is going to benefit. I just think Moss still has the talent, if he's healthy. Now he has an offense that may actually utilize his talent. Great example is what has happened with Steve Smith this year. No one doubts his talent, but 44 year old QBs, and David Carr = crap numbers.

Moss is very good in the hurry up. Campbell seems to look at Moss/Cooley then every once else in the hurry up FWI.

Moss is best used as a WR3 in a start-3 WR league. This is a down year for him, but from here on out I would expect him to resemble what we have seen from him in years past far more than the dropster we've seen most of this year. He's very explosive, but he's inconsistent. You have to start him every week if you want to catch the lightning.

I don't see Moss keeping this up. He'll probably have a zero next week and then explode for 2 TDs in Week 13.
What does "keeping this up" mean? Do what he did today every game? Of course he won't "keep that up", but that'd also mean that you're using an unrealistic standard to judge his performance.

One week wonder, for 2 reasons..

1) Because no one started him

2) He shows up against Dallas for whatever reason

I doubt the Skins will be in a situation like today every week. Campbell & Moss benefitted from TO scoring every 5 minutes & having to play catch-up. Don't confuse that for Gibbs turning them into a pass-first team.

Fool's Gold. Don't get burnt on him like I have. Start someone else. If you have no one else then just leave the starting lineup blank. Half of the time 0 gives you more than Santana Moss does.

Completely disagree with the above post. Campbell has started throwing the deep ball last week and all the signs were there for Moss to have a good game. He may not be a weekly producer but if you pick your spots, he's much better than fools gold.

For the last 2 weeks Washington has had nice production from the WR position, one week maybe a fluke, but 2 weeks in a row, that is not a fluke. Maybe they are at least trending to be useable, and Santana Moss is a talented receiver, dependable this year, not up till now, but I think it is unfair to judge him as having no value. Washington has had a banged up offensive line all year, but it looks like they are protecting Campbell better now, which is giving him time to pass. Moss has been hurt, he was not 100% today, if you watched the game, you could still see him favoring his ankle.

I finally gave up on him last week...however, I can't see him burning Ronde Barber next week for much. I would expect Randle El to have the better game of the two vs TB.

 I predict a "balanced" offense in TB next week. As long as game conditions are favorable, they should run 30+ times and pass around 30 times.

Any predictions tonight?

A national TV audience (for those whose cable company carries the NFL Network), a heartfelft effort for fallen teammate and former college alumnus Sean Taylor, a weaker than anticipated Bears Defense all spells major motivation for a big showing by all the Redskins tonight. What kind of stat line for Santana Moss this evening?

7 rec. for 85 yards and one TD

Only reason I'm here now is because I'm sitting here debating if I should start Moss, Welker or Roddy White. Can't decide, but I think I may actually sit Welker or White and play Moss.Thing is, looks like Vasher is still out, and I think Moss can burn Tillman. The Bears safeties have been playing extremely erratically all season, so I would not be surprised to see speedy Moss break some plays if Campbell can just put the ball where it needs to be.

Good rule of thumb I've learned the hard way over the years:

If your stuck in a WDIS situation, ride the guys who got you here (to the playoffs)

I would guess Moss goes 3-45 no TD, it be the running game tonight agains the Bears weak run D

I think Moss will have a nice night. Since i started this thread, he has played MUCH MUCH better. Solid #3 WR I think. Faulk just said that Campbell has thrown the ball "pretty well" in this cold weather, for whatever that is worth. NO wind tonight, and grass is good according to Mooch.

I have no idea why I feel this way, but I think he is going to have a good night. I just don't know if I have the guts to put him in my lineup. I have to play him in one league. In another league, if I don't play him, I'm going to have to play Sidney Rice or Brandon Jacobs as my third flex (I hate Thursday night games for this year). And in yet another league, because of injuries, I have to start two out of Holmes, Moss, Stallworth, and Bruce. Ugly.

cubic zirconium?

What to make of Santana Moss?

He STINKS!

That's what to make of him. I can't believe I started this bum and it's the first week of playoffs, too.

good guess

No way was I going to start this guy unless I had no choice due to injuries.

Gibbs and Moss can't be trusted. For the most part, high risk and no reward.

Yeah im crossing my fingers that my mistake of starting him over rice doesn't cost me my league.
