What was Ed Reed thinking? (1 Viewer)

Did anybody else notice on Holmes' long TD that Ed Reed might have taken the worse angel Ive ever seen. Not sure if he was up to something tricky or over thought the situation but he almost seemed to move out of the way and let Holmes in for the touchdown.

I don't get it either. When the play was unfolding I was yelling at the TV for Nate Washington to turn the F around and put a block on Ed Reed instead of worrying about the guy running behind Holmes who would never catch him. There was plenty of time for Reed to dive in at Holmes and make the tackle but for some reason he just kept running towards the pylon and basically let Holmes score.

Ed was playing the 'maybe he'll fumble and I'll return it' angle.. he's like Deion Sanders was with contact..

False. He lights people up every now and again....but I do agree that sometime he tends to get too "cute" in trying to make the big play instead of the solid play. (but more often than not he is making the big play when it presents itself so who can blame him)

Reed wasn't scared or avoiding contact, he just got too cute. He was playing for the cutback from Holmes that's why he slowed down dramatically. Holmes read it all the way and just punched it to the outside and there was no way Reed could make up ground.

As good as Ed Reed is, he was the 4th best safety playing yesterday.

1. Troy Polamalu

2. Brian Dawkins

3. Adrian Wilson

4. Ed Reed

 Seriously, how does it take this long before anyone actually realizes this?

You're joking right? Are you talking about on field performance yesterday or are you talking about careers and who you would rather have on your team?

Not only that but the DB that got beat on the play made NO ATTEMPT WHATSOEVER to chase down Holmes. Holmes doesn't exactly have blazing speed. If the DB had run all out towards the pylon, he definitely could have caught Holmes.

Holmes isn't Chris Johnson fast, but he's faster than most DB's.

For whatever reason Reed played badly yesterday.
Maybe he is just not a big game player?
Actually he's just the opposite of that. Usually he's at his best in big games, but for some reason he just was off this past weekend. Seemed to be just a step behind on a number of occasions.

This is not unusual for Reed. He has some big games, he has some bad games, it's the nature of someone who's game is like Reed's (a risk taker). I'm a little perplexed why many of you aren't seeing this.

I'm a huge Ed Reed fan (especially for a Steeler fan), but how many big games have the Ravens played in with him on the roster? How many were more important than this Sunday? He's a great player but he hasn't had much of a chance to be a big game player. This was only the third season the Ravens have made the playoffs in Reed's seven seasons (they lost the first playoff game both times). The sample size (five total games) is pretty small.I believe Reed has five INTs in five playoff games, with one against Miami a TD on the return. That's pretty impressive, I will concede. He also has 8 total tackles.

All guys are going to get beat at one point or another. It's the nature of football in general. Reed gets beat less often than the other top Safeties IMO.
