What will you remember most? ... about Brett Favre? (1 Viewer)

What will you remember most? The Packers were the "Bengals" before the Bengals, until the arrival of Bob Harlan, Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgen. Then Brett Favre and Reggie White arrived.

As a life-long Packer fan it's not easy to deal with today's news. No fan of ANY franchise wants to face the day when their "legend" retires. However, with Brett it should be a celebration of what he has MEANT to the Packer franchise and I believe that's how HE would want it to be.

I understand that many people here are not Favre fans and not Packer fans and I appreciate that. If you could allow us Packer fans our day of remembrance it would be appreciated. I have also been very appreciative of the comments from the fans of our division opponents whom have praised Brett as a foe.

So I pose the question ... what do you remember most? I'll start with a list of my favorites off the top of my head (not inclusive by any means) and also in no particular order. Please add your favorites for us to remember! I have a BAKER'S dozen!!!

1) 4 TD's in the first half against the Raiders after Irving Favre passes away.

2) 5 TD passes aginst the Bears, a week after he suffered a Horrible ankle injury.

3) The lobbed TD pass to Rison to open the scoring in Super Bowl XXXI.

4) The BULLET to Kitrick Taylor to win his first game against the Bengals.

5) His multiple down-field blocks where he celebrated ANY gain by the ball-carrier.

6) The DIVE against the Falcons in the 1994 playoffs with no time on the clock to win the game.

7) The 81-yard TD to Antonio Freeman in Super Bowl XXXI.

8) The DOZENS of reverse-spins away from a sack that led to a Packer reception.

9) The DOZENS of vicious hits from Defensive Players where the Defensive Player then picked Favre up after the hit.

10) The MULTIPLE DOZENS of Favre celebrations that make anyone who has ever LOVED the game remember why they loved it.

11) The undying devotion from his long list of teammates.

12) A long LIST of THROWS into a spot that even PRO QB's would call SMALL

Thirteen) Maybe MOST important of all: The HOPE he brought in EVERY game to EVERY Packer Fan!

ONE EXTRA: He ALWAYS PLAYED!!! ALWAYS!

Please ADD to this list so we can RE-imagine the most exciting, storied career in Green Bay Packer history!

Thanks for everyone who participates ... it should be FUN like Brett would have wanted!

Selling his 1991 Topps Stadium Club rookie card way too early. Thankfully I still have the 1991 Upper Deck. It's not worth nearly what the Stadium Club is, but at least I have a Favre rookie.

Playing at a high level but never forgetting to have fun playing the game he loved.
Just like Emmitt.I've read your other comments in the Favre threads so far and I can tell they come from an NFL fan first, who understands the importance of a class act. You guys (Cowboys fans and the team) helped define the rising Packers in the early 90's. Thanks for that nod from a heated opponent.

As a Buc fan, I always enjoyed the respect given to Brett by the Tampa defense and more specifically Warren Sapp. Those games were always hard fought battles in the late 90's and early 00's. Warren going after Brett with no helmet, tapping each other on the backside after a nice hit or a sack, and, my ultimate, two grown men on a football field feeding each other water from the other's bottle. Classic scene.

So much to remember. I think it will be the Monday night game after his dad passed for me. There were so many moments in that game that are etched in my brain with a huge smile.

This might sound crazy as well, but one of the things I remember the most about watching Brett play was seeing Deanna in the stands and often finding myself a little choked up. Quality people. Sad to see him hang up the cleats, but happy for him and his family.

His last pass.
Who is your Favorite team Sea Bass .... and why have you NO appreciation for accomplishment?
Well to be fair it WAS a record setting interception
Which was well deserved as a LONGEVITY accomplishment. I hate to be defensive, BUT, I would need you to show HOW badly Farve fares among the great QB's in TD/INT ratio. Can you do that? When you are finished, let me know how it degrades his accomplishments. Until then, TRY harder!

You are so RIGHT. I always loved the Favre/Sapp duel. I also always heard Sapp say nothing but praise for Favre.

I respect what he did on the field, but he was the biggest drama queen I have ever seen.
Really? How so?I have heard this many times today...yet not one person can give a good answer as to why. They point out the "annual" will he or will he not retire (though, that really only happened one time 2 years ago). They point out all of the life incidents that the media overblows...again...how is that Favre being a drama queen?I don't recall a single time Favre had a look at me...pay attention to me moment.

Hard to pin down to any memories.

I vividly remember every game I got to see in Lambeau where he ran out of the tunnel.

The first TD in the Super Bowl.

The TD to Sharpe.

The fake passes after handoffs.

Running and throwing a block on a reverse.

The headslaps to defensive players after a big hit.

Just too many to keep listing.

It is fitting that of all days for Warren Sapp to officially retire it is on the same day as his heated rival Brett Favre retires. I will always remember the taunting when these two would play and congratulatory looks they would give each other before, during and after games between Green Bay and Tampa Bay. I used to really look forward to these two squaring up against each other and the love of the game that existed between the two when they were both in their prime.

The Oakland Raiders officially placed defensive tackle Warren Sapp on the retired list, freeing up $4.153 million of cap room.

Sapp announced after the season he was planning his end his potential Hall of Fame career that started with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was considered one of the best defensive tackles of his era and was the anchor the Buccaneers' Cover-2 defense.

Mem mem member that time he threw that TD pass on 4th down after getting lit up on third down. And how he ran off the field like you normally would on 3rd only to run back out on the field after talking to his coach (I think it was still Sherman at the time). After the game he said he didn't remember throwing the ball or the play. Member that? That was Awesome!

There was the one against the Giants where he put himself back in after a big hit...threw a TD (I think) and does not recall doing it.Missed the rest of that game with a concussion I think.

Favre coming out and announcing his addiction to pain killers and Vikodin specifically...that wasn't easy and it could have made for a much shorter career for most NFL players but he bounced right back. The thing about Favre is he was a guy that most people or most fans could identify with.

Favre however is the end of the gunslinger era for me personally. I grew up in South Florida and was a Dan Marino fan, but whether it was Marino, Elway, or guys like Favre, it really was a different era for QBs...how many real gunslingers are left? A friend of mine mentioned Tony Romo and while he does remind me of Favre, it isn't his gunslinging abilities that always remind me of him.

the strahan flop deal, his last pass and madden driving my crazy when he would talk about him.
:goodposting: Laying down for Strahan has always stayed with me. And the Bang! cartoon with Madden coming out of the mens room with Favre's picture on a magazine. Both are classics.Still, the NFL is losing one of the good guys.

The retirement is one. How many years did we have to go through retirement decision, only to have him make a big announcment before the draft that he was coming back. There were also many games that he seemed to be banged up and favoring a leg or shoulder, sick, etc., but then when he leads the team on the winning drive he is jumping around and pumping his arms, etc. Sudden cure I guess.Last year, I was at a game where he left the field with like :30 seconds left in the first half at home. All the fans watched him walk off with just the trainer and talked about what is wrong with Brett, I hope Brett is ok, etc., etc. Then the rest of the team comes out after halftime and guess what, no Brett. Again, the fans are all talking about where is Brett, what is wrong with him. Then about 2 minutes into the second half, here comes Brett out of the locker room by himself and in the spotlight.Like I said. He had a good career and I respect what he did. I could have just done without all the drama.

Diving into the endzone while playing with a seperated shoulder. When I saw that I knew he was special.

If you asked anyone that follows the NFL(with an IQ) and the media that follows the NFL you would find out that "drama queen" is one of the last phrases they'd use to describe him.

The thing I'll always remember about Farve is that he's a shining example of how a drug addict can turn his life around, and beat the disease.

I have to also say that that was an amazing performance and truly one of the legndary games ever.

How many years? One. 2 years ago. Prior to that no big drama at all. Last year he announced on like February 2nd.And that one time...was after a terrible year...worst for the team and for him.So...no other player that might have been hurting somewhere has ever been excited and had adrenaline take over to celebrate? How is that drama queen?Umm..not sure what the hell you are talking about with your last statement of Favre going in early with a trainer (but that is not all that uncommon for a player to head in with a trainer right before the half).2 minutes into the 2nd half he came out? Was he done for the day? Otherwise...I don't think he ever took that long to come out of the locker room...and again...in the spotlight because he possibly was seeking treatment for an injury? That makes him a drama queen.Basically...you have not posted a single actual instance of him being a drama queen. Why? Because most sane people realize he is not one. Far from it.Had he been one...there would have been a "farewell" tour year that some have said he might do.Bob Harlan (long time Packers president) reiterated what I have said about that in the past. I just don't think Brett wants that attention and distraction from the game.

i was at the monday night game at oakland after his dad died. raider nation gave him a standing ovation. he then went out & kicked our ###. he still got a huge ovation when he left the field. always fun to watch him play.

It was a terrible comment on my part. I may not be a Favre fan, but I should have shown more appreciation on the day he retired. You have every right to be defensive.

That must be my problem. I have and IQ therefore I stopped following the NFL. I just call it like I see it

And you are dead wrong.

I remember early in his career when Packers fans were cheering throwing the ball away instead of throwing an interception. They were very patient and supporting his learning curve. They were willing to let him grow into the job. You don't really see that these days with the salary cap/win now philosophy. That really paid off for Green Bay.

I also remember those underhanded passes and the weird way he would fake throws after handoffs (he said he was bored and didn't know what else to do). Those were times that he treated the game like a game, and that's always fun to see as a fan.

Cool. I can live with my decisions and thoughts. As stated, Favre was a hell of a player. I am not saying he wasn't. We just have a disagreement on other items.

I was visiting the baseball forum and happened to notice a post on Favre. Just because I stopped following the NFL a couple of years ago, doesn't mean I live under a rock. I went to the game last year with a friend who's wife got him tickets for his birthday. Man, people get a little edgy around these parts don't they. Try to cut back on the coffee and Red Bulls.

Sorry, trying to multi-task as work. I meant after her cancer battle, seeing her in the stands smiling and supporting him. Just watching how much the two support each other publicly, etc. Yes, that does make me a little misty eyed. He's a quality person in my book and so is his wife. There, does that make more sense?
