What Would You Have Done? (1 Viewer)

I would have yelled at them 'Hey girls, those are decorative trees'

And then wait for them to laugh at me.

I would have yelled.

Those trees are probably dead. Check out the damage the next time you are in the area.
I’ll be there tomorrow for soccer practice. So I’ll check out the trees. If the same teams have a second practice there is a good chance those CleatBeavers©️will be there.

Will report back tomorrow.

good to start the registration process on this ...is this official yet?

I'll give you 1% of all net royalties.

Also booking bets on the obnoxiousness of the parents.

- 300 on the obnoxious side

+150 on the ok side

I would strongly urge you not to use CleatBeavers© when addressing them. Mileages may vary on that one.

I've got obnoxious parents at -300. Book it, please, Binky.

I absolutely would have snapped at them to knock it off and gone to find a parent. But I’m a 50yo woman. My husband wouldn’t have said anything. For the exact same reasons you didn’t.

I’d want a parent to tell my kid. Not scold. Not yell at. But educate, ask nicely and move on.
You are the type of parent whose kids will likely already have been taught not to destroy trees.    The parents of kids doing this are likely the type that don't want you talking to their kids and don't hold their kids accountable for anything..........which are also the type of parent that goes ballistic when their kids are told not to be destructive by someone else.

Maybe.  But then if the kid is not going to hear it at home you have the opportunity to influence them directly.  I wouldn't assume a bad outcome if the right approach is taken.  If the approach is going to be a screaming "Hey kid, what in the hell are you doing? Don't you know that.......Don't be an idiot" then I agree it's better to not say anything.  If the approach is more like "Hi.  You may not be aware but a tree like that is 30-50 years old.  It can die if the bark is damaged like that.  We need beautiful trees like that in the park.  Please stop.  Thank you." then it has a better chance to educate and get the desired outcome.  Again, I'd want another parent telling my kid this.  Takes a village.

I agree but my point was more about how the reaction from the parents would go.  Regardless of how you do the right thing in the right tone there will be parents that fly off the deep end because they don't discipline their kids and don't want anybody else doing it either (even if done the right way).

Yeah I get it.  Some will react that way.  But I just don't see that as a reason to do nothing.  2 out of 10 parents yelling "don't talk to my kid" wouldn't phase me.

Something like this  or, if not comfortable doing that, maybe inform the coach or rec department.

Yep--too many crazy parents. Plus there is that whole chance the ten year old girls would then chase and kick me.I am fat and out of shape, so it is better the tree than me.
Yeah I've heard some pretty nutty stories. Just not going to get into it over a tree.

when we grew up another parent in the neighborhood would have NO problem either grabbing you by the ear or calling your mother.

So, no CleatBeavers tonight. The trees still had some scarring from the other day, but no new damage.

On the bright side, there was a soccer mom there with a tremendous ###. She was wearing leggings and a short shirt. I almost proposed but then remembered I am old and ugly.

If you were there, probably 80% of the kids in the park are yours anyway, right? 😉

Hell yes I would have said something.  Try to educated, ask them if they really understand what they're doing.  Make it a teaching moment.

Oh BS, did you read the part about how he was running...for fun?! You would have been too out of breath to say anything, I know this cause I would be too :bag:
