What year will A-Rod break Bonds HR record? (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
Looking at the career stats of A-Rod and the way he has started this season he should end up the year with around 510 HRS give or take a few. A-Rod does not turn 32 until mid-season.

There is no reason not to believe that A-Rod won`t average at least 40 HRs a year, and maybe even more for the next 4-6 years. That would put him over the 700 mark at 37 years of age.

Given the fact that he may opt out of his contract at the end of the season and could end up at a very friendly HR ball park 800 career HRs will not be out of the question.

Bonds record falls in 2014.

Everybody did this kind of math when Griffey Jr. was in his early 30's. That didn't turn out so well. 300 HRs is a pretty big number...and starting out chasing that number when you are 32 is not doing yourself any favors. All it takes is 1 Bob Horner style broken wrist on a defensive play and ARod may struggle to ever regain form. I do think he'll eventually be the record holder...but I don't think I'd bet against any odds worse than 50-50.

I don't know when, but i do know that Righetti should start a thread counting down to it...
The only problem with this is that he may not be a Yankee when he breaks it.
That's too bad. Yankee fans know how to treat a record breaker, just ask Roger Maris.

I hope he hits 90 this year and 950 for his career so Barry won't be considered the greatest anything anymore.

If he stays healthy, which he has, ARod will go down as thee greatest ever.

 2014 should be the year. Think this thread will still be hanging around the archives?

If A-rod would have stayed in Texas, he'd be close to 550 by now. As long as he doesn't start breaking down, Bonds won't hold that record for too long. If A-Rod opts out after this year and cashes in with a more friendly ballpark (Yankee Stadium is tough RH homer hitters), then the odds will increase even more.

#10!!Another improbable walkoff!!!!!!!
While it was an awesome shot and Arod is clearly dialed WAY the hell in, let's not forget the fact taht he simply needed a single there to win it. :wall:But yeah.. he's almost as clutch as Ortiz now

You're on Alpine, right? The one with the pool?

Has anyone heard A-Rod say he plans to play for x amount of time more or whether he thinks beating Bonds is even important?

Yeah, he will only be 32 in July. But he's making like $25 mil this year ... he clearly never has to play once his current contract is up. The only thing that will keep him going is winning rings.

Never has to play? Why do you think he's having the year that he is so far? He's going to hit 85 home runs and opt out of his contract so Boras can ask for 40 million a year. :lmao:

Either way the Yanks are in a tough spot. If Arod has an average year (40hrs) he'll be booed and hell leave town. If he has a great year (55+hrs) he'll opt out and try to sign a long term deal with either the Yanks or someone else.

The way he has been treated I hope he has a huge year and leaves for Chicago or LA. The guy puts up MVP numbers yet gets treated like a POS for having a bad series. Yankee fans don't deserve. Booing Arod has been the cool thing to do for the past year. I hope those fools pay for it.

If he has a big year he could easily command a 6-year 150mill deal. Either way he's opting out.

I have been a yankees fan my whole life and these are my sentiments exactly. He doesn't need it. Say he puts up 80 HR this year, he knows if he stays with the yankees and does awful next year, he is going to hear it again. I really think he is going to stick it to them and leave after this year. Then who will everyone have to blame? Oh thats right, the NY media will then point the finger at Brian Cashman, one of the smartest guys in baseball.....isn't that the saying? "only in NY"Guy is the best player in baseball hands down. To treat him the way they did was ridiculous. So many of my friends are sucking his **** right now, but last summer he was such a "bum". The championships spoiled us and NY has been expecting perfection every year since the D'Backs series. If A-rod leaves it will be no ones fault but the media and fans. Brian Cashman will try to sign him if he opts out, but A-rod may have had enough.

If he opts out, the Mets could sign him. Move Reyes to 2B. The Mets would finally have a better lineup then the Yankees. Reyes, LoDuca, Beltran, ARod, Delgado, Wright, Alou, Green. That's an all time great hitting infield. Plus, he could stick it to Jeter in the NY press everytime his highness butchers another defensive play.
