I struggled with this one. My initial thought was that I rarely do it as, in terms of a "meal," I will occasionally eat fast food while on the road for work and I'm pressed for time but that's really it so I thought my answer was a no. However, I realized upon thinking about it that during the average week I eat a protein bar on my drive to the office for breakfast - which is a meal - on a regular basis (probably 2-3 times per week) so I answered yes.

ETA: The protein bar is easy to eat and doesn't affect my driving at all. I'll generally just have a couple of bites at each stoplight and it's probably a <10 bite bar so it's gone pretty easily and quickly. The fast food I'll usually wait to eat while I'm on a highway or a familiar stretch of road as I'm not an expert knee driver.

I used to do it more, now only on long road trips. When driving between Houston and Denver I do not want to stop and eat at restaurant, I want to keep driving.

I don't like eating in the car, but I am an expert knee driver.

I didn't vote.
You act as if this is Shuke vs GM... both of whom I'm sure will vote yes.

I don't much any more only because I make a huge mess. There are just certain things that are too dangerous to eat while driving on the highways. I've converted into a drive-thru/eat in parking lot on road trips.

Actually I eat a banana and a couple granola bars on the way to work every single day but I don't consider that a "meal".

I travel a bit for work so I do this more frequently than I would like to. I am not a knee driver though. I'll only choose a food item that can be held in one hand, so the other is on the wheel. Only eat one thing at a time, so no burger in one hand while grabbing fries with the other. If I need a sip of drink, I'll put down whatever I'm holding in the center console area before picking up the cup.

Just curious, why this regular road trip?

My parents/siblings live in Denver and I live in Houston. We tend to go over spring break when flights are ridiculously expensive.

We also go in the summer, however we go to El paso first(inlaws), then Albuquerque( other relatives), then Denver. The drive is broke up that way.

Regularly? No. When the schedule dictates that is optimal to hanger though. I try to find time between work and coaching to not eat while driving, but I always have a plan b on reserve. One staple during peak are 'pork chips.' It's just tenderloin, but I eat it room temperature out of a bag like chips. Usually pair them with a bag of raw veggies.

Very rarely. In fact, the only time I really do this is if I take my kids through the drive-through at MickeyD's and I get a double cheeseburger which I just slam in the car on the drive home.

Can't speak for the other guy, but I almost never eat and drive.

1) I don't like mess and I'll get something somewhere and it'll distract me.
2) We are SUPPOSED to be 'hands free' when driving. If that applies to a phone, why doesn't it also apply to food? Or applying makeup?
3) I don't have very long commutes, so I don't need food for a drive to/from work. But I also don't really snack on road trips either. I camel up and drive. Stopping makes me stabby.

I almost never eat fast food anymore, so, no.

I used to all the time up until about 6-7 years ago. It's logical, of course, but it never occurred to me how much easier it is to keep a car clean when you don't eat in it.

A few months back, I caved on a road trip (the ol' lady wanted some Bojangles). Only had the car a year, so we'd never eaten in it.

It was one of the more irritating experiences I've ever had (even though I used to do it all the time).
I felt like grease was getting in every orifice of the car.
And holy ####, there was a biscuit involved too. May as well have put flour and lard in front of a leaf blower.

I used to drive 60K miles a year for work, so yes. 100% remote for past 6 months and foreseeable future, so not any longer.

Pretty rarely. Not a good option and don’t like getting little bits of food in the car but have def plowed through some Taco Bell or some burgers from time to time.

Almost never. Maybe a banana every once and awhile on the way to work. When on a longer road trip maybe a lunch to save time.

When I am at work, I eat lunch in my SUV everyday, but never while I am driving. Only time I eat while driving are road trips.

I almost never eat in the car and don't like to at all. It's hard to eat, dangerous to drive, your car smells like food, and you make a mess.

Several years ago the answer would have been yes but now it's a no, other than beef jerky or pork rinds on rare occasions.

I used to do this a lot while traveling longer distances. Then I kind of curtailed it due to the safety issue combined with the fact that I don't eat much fast food/snack food anymore that is typically easier to consume while driving. However, since getting the comma.ai I have started becoming comfortable with it again. The wife and I will usually put together a nice charcuterie board for long drives spanning through lunch.

until they convert the glove compartment into a microwave and make the seats lift up to become a toilet, i won’t eat meals in the car.

I bet I have eaten more meals in the car while driving, than I have at the dinner table, over the last twenty years at least.
