What's the newest candy bar that is a classic? (1 Viewer)

I definitely remember Whatchamacallits being new back in the grade school days.  We had roller skating rink nights for elementary school, and I'd get my four shiny quarters to spend on whatever I wanted from the counter.  Darn those Whatchamallits were good stuff.

That said, I can't say for certain I see them in the candy aisle everywhere I go.  I would probably have gotten them more often if they were more common.
I love them.  Every time were on a road trip and I need something to snack on in the car, I buy a king size one.

I would say that nationwide release date/year in the U.S. is what should count. At least if you're asking around here on the FFA.

There are also quite a few classic candy bars that are or were sold in the U.S. regionally only -- Clark bars are a good example. I suspect Ghirardelli products are similar (Bay Area and/or California only for a long time), but I haven't researched it.
This is like saying the best team in the history of baseball is the Red Sox.  But only because I heard of them last season.

If they came out on a certain date, that's their creation date.

i make a candy bar called the swcmacallit and it involves raisens chocolate and 10 weight 30 motor oil and it is pretty damned classic if you ask me take that to the bank bromigos

Talking about availability -- hard for a candy bar to become a classic if ain't sold hardly anywhere.

Twix weren't even called Twix in the UK were the cookie/candy bar was first sold -- the British label named them "Raiders". Don't really have a problem treating the U.S. Twix as a different and separate product new to the U.S. market in 1979. Kind of a cheat, yeah ... but like I said: if you can't buy it anywhere, how's it going to become a classic?

Not a huge fan of these but Skor bars were invented in 1981 and  pretty much made Heath bars obsolete.

also, this thread reminds me... my name appears on ESPN.com twice - once for winning a stuart scott bobble head doll. Once for winning a chance to play fantasy football with Mike and Mike almost 20 years ago. Shortly after Greenie joined the show, they did the "buongiorno fantasy football league" and gave away 'seats' to listeners in various ways. Deon Sanders had some quote about that time saying that after he retired, the NFL should re-name the cornerback position "The Deon" because of how good he was. So, they gave away one of the seats based on having you rename football positions after some theme. I sent in an entry renaming them after candy bars because of Golic's obsession with food and won a seat, then proceeded to win the league. My entry had things like:

Defensive ends - Kit Kat - break me off a piece of that Quaterback

WRs - mounds or almond joy depending on if they guts to run routes over the middle or not (because almond joys got nuts, mounds don't)

quaterback - 100 grand bar - most expensive player

kicker - twizzlers - twizzlers aren't really candy bars, but kickers aren't really football players

That's my 15 minutes of fame, IMO.
Until your inevitable appearance on national news, of course.

"The Cabin Killer" has a nice ring to it

I realize they still have/make Heath bars but I assumed, maybe incorrectly that Skor has overtaken it in popularity.  Though I'm just basing that off my kids Halloween candy haul.  I recall seeing a few Skor bars every year because my kids would give them to me as they didn't like him.  I don't recall ever seeing a miniture health bar in all their trick or treating years.

And I cannot figure out how Take 5s are not more popular.  Easily a top 3 candy bar in terms of flavor (I'd put them in the top spot) but so many people have never heard of them.  They need to do a better job marketing these things.

The last one I can recall that was really heavily marketed was Hershey's Symphony bar which I was thinking was late 80's / early 90's but that one and Take5 and that Twix knockoff called Summit but I'm stuck in the 80's so there's that.

These have already been mentioned and I would like to second their nomination.

Hershey Cookies and Cream - 1994

Hershey Gold - 2017

Both solid new candy bars with 'classic' potential.  If I had to pick one, I would probably go with the Gold bar.  They are really good.

Not sure what you're going for here.  In order for it to be a classic, it's got to be widely available.  You can't say it's a classic, but it's not available everywhere.  This is "classic" by the definition I posted in the OP.

Whatchamacallit
This was the first thing that popped in my mind when I read the thread title. Haven't had one in years but use to eat them a lot. I rarely eat a candy bar anymore but my go to is a Reese's. I'm going to make a Reese's Cheesecake over the weekend and may eat a Reese's cup or two if there are any leftover. Another favorite of mine use to be a Three Musketeers bar. I would put them in the fridge to get good and cold.

Now I have to go to the store.

Love Three Musketeers bars, too.  I actually love a lot, I'm discovering.  But them and Milky Ways are great somewhere between the freezer and the fridge.

Must be regional.  I can't think of seeing Skor in the kids Halloween bags, but definitely Heath.  Also, while I've heard of a Take 5, I couldn't tell you what it is without looking i tup.

"Hey, obsolete ice cream stand! You're using obsolete candy!"
I get that for an ice cream afficianado, soft serve might not be the tops, but there isn't a major fast food place that can beat their blizzard menu in quality and variety.

See terrible marketing right there.  Milk Chocolate, Caramel, Peanuts, Peanut Butter and Pretzels.  Perfect blend of salt, sweet and crunch.  With the worst of the ingredients (caramel) really just acting as the glue holding this masterpiece together.

Yeah, huge fan of the Take 5.

I think the answer here is Twix.  And speaking of which, what ever happened to peanut butter Twix?  Haven't seen one in ages.

And if you run out of oil on the way to the bank you can melt them down and add them to your crankcase.

Reggie bar?
So funny, that was the first bar that came to mind! 1978.

I was never a big candy eater, but Heath, Reese's PB Cups were usually my go to as a kiddo.

Although I think the best chocolate bar will always be the Cadbury Flake, with Aero and Coffee Crisp being damned tasty as well.

I have a problem with Take 5:  Dry, crunchy pretzels are one of the worst culinary creations of all time.

A Take 4 would be addition by subtraction.

I can't remember the last time I bought a "classic" candy bar, but it was most likely a Skor or Heath, or by small chance, a Butterfinger.  I have, however, picked up quite a few dark chocolate and/or hazelnut bars in the impulse aisle as you're waiting for a checker at Trader Joe's.

I must admit that I'm a big fan of Jordan almonds, but fear I'm going to crack a tooth.

Oh, and Take 5?  Peanut butter cups or nothing!

Skor is the answer to the OP.

FWIW, both Skor and Heath are now owned by Hersheys.

Your favorite being.....?
A Whatchamacallit.  But it's close.  And they can swap very easily.  I'll eat a Twix for a while and then switch back.

Side note, I found that a Twix tastes better to me if I eat the bar upside down.  Not sure why.  Somebody once told me they didn't like cheese under their burger, only on top and I was nonplussed.  But after trying it, it made sense.  I tried it with a Twix and it was a similar effect.  Also, if the Twix is chilled, I'll eat the caramel off first, then eat the cookie.  That cookie is so good.  Wish Twix just sold a box of cookies made of that stuff.
