What's the worst movie you've ever seen? (1 Viewer)

Good to see this has finally turned into "a recent movie that I didn't like"
Would actually like to see a "Best Picture Oscar winning films that suck" thread. Birdman might just vault to the top.
Crash
English Patient
Chicago
Shakespeare In Love
Cimarron

Its unwatchable today.

I think we have a winner.

Chairman of the Board

It has Carrot Top in the lead role as a surfer.

/thread
Shamefully, I have seen that. Horrible, but everyone involved knew it was horrible, that was basically its schtick. I mean, it's a Carrot Top vehicle, no one involved had any shame or pride.

IMO the truly bad movies combine bad actors who think they are good, a horrible script that thinks it's profound, a director who tries all that douchey stuff some directors do (like a wannabe Kubrick for example), lots of oddly framed camera work, and horrible editing.
fwiw- I went to HS with Courtney Thorne Smith, who was a co-star. I haven't met many people with more integrity... and I'd guess she wasn't alone in the crew by having shame and pride in doing the best she could do.

truly bad movies are truly bad movies, regardless of any of the cast and crew having unrealistic self awareness. I'll actually give credit to somebody trying to do something interesting and failing over a POS like this.

That's hilarious. "Box office poison". As far as CTS, she was already embarrassed before the release. Nothing says "paycheck" more than a beautiful woman starting in a Carrot Top (or Andrew Dice Clay or Ernest or Rob Schneider or etc.) vehicle.

Crash was well-produced but horrible. I can see some merit in the others. I actually liked SiL a lot. It got a bad rap because so many people had a hard-on for the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan.

I may have already mentioned it in here, but it's worth noting again: The Place Beyond the Pines was horrible. Luckily it was only 2 hours and 40 minutes long.

I thought it was OK personally. A little long but ok.

Seems like there are a lot of guys who dislike character studies and artistic movies. I get that, but we shouldn't confuse taste for quality. I find certain types of movies uninteresting and dull, but that doesn't make them objectively horrible movies.

I was surfing TV the other night and stumbled on a movie that was about to start -- "The Canyons" starring Lohan and male pornstar James Deen. I thought about this thread and almost started watching it, but decided that life's too short. I'll bet that movie sucks something awful by any metric used by any human being.

i thought The Place Beyon the Pines was 2/3 a great movie. Last act dragged it down.

Hmmm does Lohan get naked in that movie?

My bad. I didn't realize I wasn't intelligent enough to understand an "artistic" movie.

No clue. I'm guessing if she does those scenes are on the Internets.

I didn't say that. You seem a little sensitive. Maybe you should give the artsy stuff another shot. ?

after hearing people tell me how great the Exorcist was, I finally relented and watched it,YEARS after it came out.

I was like, 'you're joking right, that's scary? " her head spins around.horrible special effects and lousy makeup job done on her.

levitating.oh,whats next? is she going to puke or something.oh,got it.cool.

silliest movie I've ever seen.I mean, just.plain.silly.

same with Silence of the Lambs - I always thought it was when SF played LA Rams and always whooped them..nope.it's a movie apparently.saw it years after it came out.same thing. oooh...farva beans and liver.you're a bad man, Mr. Hopkins..Jodi Foster wasn't anything special in the movie. I just found it to be a dark comedy.only poorly acted and not funny, unlike Fargo..

( Fargo is one of my favorite movies..it's pure genius..Coen Bros)

I bet you saw Steamboat Willie after you told someone you liked How To Train Your Dragon and you wondered what all the fuss was about with that one too.

In the 70s, my best friend out of high school became a youth minister and one of his favorite things to do was to take his kids to one of Boston's many revival houses to see his favorite old movies (the only way in those pre-vcr days). I still laugh @ how frustrated Rev Jimmy used to get to hear his kids coming out of a MarxBros or Laurel/Hardy/Abbott/Costello fest saying they'd heard all those jokes before. The only time I ever saw him jump-up-and-down mad was when he'd yell back @ them "Where do you think all those ####in' jokes came from?!?!" Perspective and the ability to recognize and appreciate context are hallmarks of the evolved mind and i'll never cease to be amazed at how proudly folks wear lack of same.

Let's face it, no movie made before 1980 has stood the test of time.

I don't actually believe that. There are some great old movies. One of my favorite movies of all time is 12 Angry Men. I will say that movies that rely on special effects can be hard to watch years after they were made. Only because special effects are always improving. So we expect a higher quality. The best example I can give is Terminator 2. I remember when that came out thinking how incredible those special effects were. It was mind bottling! But I caught this movie on cable a couple years ago and was blown away at how cheesy a lot of these special effects looked.

But I do still like older movies.

I used to feel the same way (but set the date at 1975).

I now realize the error of my ways. There have been several older movies I've enjoyed this last year.
I actually posted that because I remember you always said that, GB. In my old age, the year slipped my memory, though.

Eyes Wide Shut made female nudity boring, worst movie ever.
That is a very solid critique.
There's a scene at the first holiday non-orgy party that looks amazing- holiday lights spilling down a staircase or something... honestly- I remember loving the way that looked. doesn't wash over how much I disliked the rest of the movie... but has something at least redeeming in it.

No Third Man yet?
IIRC I started it, but did so too late at night and fell asleep. Didn't return to it. Will try again sometime.

Next one I want to check out is Judgement At Nuremburg.
watched JaN last week for 1st time in 20 yrs and it didnt hold up that well. Schell's performance still revelatory, but the both-patrician-and-liberal tone felt kinda hacky.

with that list of oldenflicks likes, Andy, i must point you to The Best Years of Our Lives. STILL makes my heart sink and soar.

Have you watched it lately? Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. It was on and I told my daughter, "Hey, check this movie out. The effects are incredible." We watched for a while and she goes, "Umm, these effects are kind of cheesy." And she was right. The part where he melds into the helicopter, or actually, any scene where he melds from one thing to another. All pretty bad by today's comparison.

Most Stanley Kubrick movies are like that for me. Certain parts are visually stunning but the movies as a whole tend to drag for me.

But that said nothing he ever touched belongs in this thread.

:lmao:

Good to have you back and posting wikkid.
:goodposting:

and another thing- those stupid black and white movies... lame.
I watched a movie once where you couldn't hear the actor's voices. WTF was that?
The organ players union kept that alive way too long.
Maybe, but, being a union man, it was so sad to go into those 42nd st movie theaters in the 70s and see so many of them playing their organs by themselves with no one to listen.
