What's your take on Maurice Jones-Drew? (1 Viewer)

Haven't seen him play but he was ranked in the top 20 prior to my draft. I hear he's a small guy...what other player is he like? Does he play more like Westbrook or Reggie Bush or is he one of those "power", low to the ground type of guys? How does Jax like to use him? Does he line up with Taylor in the backfield or do they just split carries?

Just curious what kind of player - quick and shifty.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the boards Football-Mom. If you use the "search" feature in the top right corner of your brower you'll find loads of information on MJD. His value and how he will be used has been discussed in many threads over the last few months.

But to answer a few of your questions here:

MoJo is short, but weighs well over 200, has huge legs and runs with a lot of power. He is not a guy that gets arm tackled very often. He has speed and moves also, but his power and low to the ground style is what separates him from other RBs. He is skilled at catching the ball out of the backfield but Bush and Westbrook aren't really correct comparisons. Most of their value comes from being a dual threats, MJD's greatest value is running the ball where he can run inside or out and has converted redzone touches as well as about any RB. The Jags haven't used him and Taylor in the same backfield much in the past. They split time using Fred more often early in the game on 1st and 10, 2 and 7 type plays and MJD more late and on passing downs and short yardage.

He's basically a bowling ball on methamphetamines. I can't think of any other decent comparison. He's sort of like Jerome Bettis, if Bettis were 4 inches shorter and as fast as Reggie Bush. MJD also has great hands and top-notch vision and instincts. I'm frequently described as a stat guy, and I'm sure a lot of the people around here are convinced that I don't really even watch the games, but I own MJD in every keeper and dynasty league I've participated in based entirely on the freakish talent that I saw from him last season.

I think there are 6 elite talents at RB in the NFL right now....LT, SJax, LJ, Reggie, A(D)P & MJD.
I might add Gore to that list, but I pretty much agree that these are the elite ball carries. Most people would not like this list, in fact, if Switz sees it, his head may explode.MJD is very unique. I honestly think his size is an advantage (most see it as a disadvantage). Yes, he's short, and that may hurt his vision, but he's huge for his size and still quick, with a very low center of gravity. I can't think of a back in the NFL that has his combo of speed and power. I think its only a matter of time before the everyone else wakes up to what some already know, MJD is elite.

Love this part.

He is not a workout warrior like other Jags are.

I like this one better :link: Chaaaampiionship!
 Thank you for reminding me why I took him at 1.09 in my initial dynasty draft this year (heavy on receiving plus return yardage = rushing yardage points)I think there are 6 elite talents at RB in the NFL right now....LT, SJax, LJ, Reggie, A(D)P & MJD.
You left a couple out but your list is spot on.Westbrook is in the prime of his career and an HP monster and SA is not close to being done yet.
