Ben Roethlisberger seems to think so.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, in an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio over the weekend, predicted that wide receiver Markus Wheaton will be the Steelers' "breakout player of the year."
"I want that. I want him to have that pressure," Roethlisberger said. "When we're in two-wide receivers he's our No. 2 and we're asking him to play outside. When we go three wide receivers, we ask him to move inside. So he's playing multiple positions."
Second-year wideout Martavis Bryant – who had an elbow procedure to remove an infection and will miss some time during training camp – has been the recipient of a tremendous amount of preseason hype, so it's interesting to see Roethlisberger single out Wheaton as the guy he expects to make a big leap this season.
Wheaton already took a step forward last year, raising his catch total from six as a rookie to 53 in Year 2. Most of those catches came in three-wide formations last year, though – 33 of them, compared to only eight in two-wide sets. With Roethlisberger now indicating that Wheaton will take the field in two-wideout formations, it would be reasonable to expect his catch total to take another jump.
With a 12.2 yards per reception average and two touchdowns last season, Wheaton's not quite the big play threat Bryant (21.1 yards per reception, eight scores) is, but a valuable chain-mover is something the Pittsburgh offense can always use. Pair those two with Antonio Brown – who is one of the league's five best receivers right now – and rookie Sammie Coates, and the Steelers have one of the best young pass-catching crews in the league.
