Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits

Thru Week 15

1. Best season ever? LT is 374 rushing yards shy of 2000. He needs 187 yards per game to make it.

2. The only way Drew Brees ties LT for MVP is fading fast - Drew Brees needs 422 yards per game to break Marino’s record of 5084 yards in a season.

3. Put me in coach – MJD and MBIII are avging 5.7 and 5.2 ypc respectively. Something tells me they are going to be VERY GOOD next season.

By the way - that's Maurice Jones-Drew and Marion Barber for those who have lived under a rock for the past 6 months. Gotta love being able to use an abbreviation that people will understand.

4. No Portis, no problem – Ladell Betts has had 100-yd games in each of his last 4 games. Only 1 TD in that span however.

5. Green Bay's vaunted pass defense? - Jon Kitna has managed to pass for at least 200 yards in each game this season, except last week against Green Bay where he only managed 135 yards.

More dirt on Kitna - 12 of 14 games Jon Kitna has thrown at least 1 INT. Those two games in which he didn't toss a pick - week 1 and week 2.

6. My eyebrows are semi-raised - Kyle Boller in nothing more than 2 games this season has a 104.0 QB rating with 485 yards passing and 5 TD's.

7. Steven Jackson where'd ya go? After averaging 8 recs per game in his last 4 games, Steven Jackson did not catch one single pass last week at Oakland. :own3d: Maybe this is why...

Receptions for Jackson

when leading: 9

when trailing: 55

when tied: 18

8. Five teams are allowing their opposing QB's to have a 90+ QB rating on average

90.5 HOU

91.2 SF

92.1 DET

96.2 WAS

97.3 TB

9. Trivia Question I - Two teams have not had a rushing gain longer than 30 yards. Can you name them?

10. Trivia Question II - Only wo teams have scored at least 20 rushing TD's and 20 passing TD's - Can you name them?

11. Did you know? Larry Johnson has not scored a TD since before Thanksgiving. Also - 10 of his 13 rushing TD's were at home. 59% of his rushing yards came at home.

12. Lambeau = problems - Donald Driver has scored 6 of his 7 TD's on the road :bag: 35 of his 80 receptions were on the road.

13. Some interesting stats on Chester Taylor...

5.8 ypc average in weather below 40

2.8 ypc vs. AFC teams

4.5 ypc vs. NFC teams

When the team is leading 5.1 ypc

When the team is trailing 3.8 ypc

Inside his own 20 7.1 ypc

Got a player you'd like some interesting stats for? Post the player and I will see what I can find.

14. Marvin Harrison trends - 73 of his 82 receptions have come with a lone setback formation. He has not caught any passes in an I-back formation.

I will add more stats & tidbits later when I get more time. Merry Christmas everyone.

This is such a terrible formation for the Colts. I am quite sure that opposing teams know this stat! It is an obvious rushing formation and usually results in a loss on the play.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

12. Lambeau = problems - Donald Driver has scored 6 of his 7 TD's on the road  35 of his 80 receptions were on the road.
I'm really surprised that Green Bay has a better record on the road (4-3) than at home (2-5). Their only two home wins (Arizona and Detroit) are nothing to crow about either. Doesn't seem that long ago that playing in Lambeau was just about a guaranteed victory for the Pack.

I'm quite sure that opposing teams know that stat too. I'm also quite sure that the Colts will have several passing plays from that formation once the playoffs roll around.

I have a theory that the Colts have been playing with a scaled back playbook the last month on purpose.

They have been playing with a scaled back playbook the entire year! lolThat formation has been in existance for years. They almost never pass out of it. Regular season or playoffs, that formation sucks!

Didn't want to be saddled with that HFA curse?
I think they thought they could beat Tennessee with fewer plays and then just got strong armed in Jax, so they kept the strategy in place while they took that one on the chin. I think the next three games, we'll start seeing some vastly different looks. They opened things up against Cincy figuring that they'd probably have to beat the Bengals sometime in the next month and if they did it Monday, they increased the chances that Cincy wouldn't even make the playoffs. The Colts gambled (and lost, twice so far) that they needed their full arsenal to beat Baltimore/New England/San Diego/some combo thereof. I imagine they watch the Pittsburgh game from last year and shake their heads at getting so owned by a defense they'd manhandled earlier in the year.

I'll bite: Give me a stat on Deion Branch, please.

Hey WH -

Love the weekly post. I wouldn't mind seeing some stats on who has the most "big" plays this year rushing/receiving with "big" meaning 40+ yards. Same for D/ST touchdowns.

TIA

Yes, because Dungy and the Colts have proven so adept at adjusting to the playoffs. :bag:

Chad Johnson leads all WR's with 8 gains of 40+ yards. Believe it or not, Devery Henderson is 2nd with 7. The other leaders go as followed...6 Berrian, Reggie Brown, D. Jackson

5 Galloway, Ma. Clayton, Burress, Driver

4 R. White, S. Smith, Glenn, Stallworth, L. Evans, N. Washington, B. Edwards, J. Walker, B. Johnson, M. Harrison

As for RB's - I could not find 40+ yard rushes, but 20+ yard gains are led by Frank Gore with 14

14 Gore

12 Parker

11 LT

9 LJ

8 T. Barber, Westbrook

7 S. Jackson, Dunn

6 C. Taylor, M. Turner, Henry, T. Bell, McAllister, F. Taylor

5 R. Johnson, J. Jones, R. Brown, Maroney, K. Jones, D. Williams

INT returns 20+ yards

3 Pacman Jones

3 Rashean Mathis

3 Asante Samuel

3 Lito Sheppard

Torry Holt has been quite an enigma this year. Please post some stats on him.
Overall Torry Holt is pretty consistent...case in point - 40 recs in 1st half, 40 recs in 2nd half. By down - most recs on 2nd down

1st down: 28

2nd down: 34

3rd down: 15

4th down: 3

* Only scored 1 TD (1 out of 10) when STL had the lead. Not sure how definitive this stat is, because STL hasn't won too many games this year - still worth noting.

recs by formation:

shotgun 27

split back 6

I-back 47

Lone setback 47 (8 TD)

No motion 50, 5 TD

Motion 30, 5 TD

Thanks. I took him as the first WR off the board at #8, but I think he has been a dissappointment this year. He has had alot less big games this year than last year.
