when do you rebuild? [DYNASTY] (1 Viewer)

I won't get into my specific team here, but when do you consider rebuilding?

If your team is still competitive but aging do you try to trade a few pieces that will bring youth, knowing that your chances to win the title will be decreased, or do you hang on until the wheels fall off?

Does your answer change if the values of productive veterans are lower than the dynasty sites would indicate?

I'm constantly rebuilding.......when you become complacent with your current roster, that's when you fall behind. My stead fast rule is to only trade depth players, not starters. Ultimate goal of having a QB1, three WR1's, two RB1's, and one TE1. If you don't have that, it's time to rebuild.

If you continually finish in the middle of the pack and never end up with one of the top rookies and miss the playoffs or just get in and are one and done.

If you have an older roster that is barr

This. If you have an older roster and are working hard just to sneak into the playoffs then it's time to rebuild. Take a look at the top rosters in your league and if they are loaded with good young talent then don't fool yourself that you will be able to compete.

The right roster seems to be a mix of young and old.

I just try to stay like that. At some point, a rook demands I get rid of my vet and take it from there.

I'm not a fan of dumping a WR or RB because they are 30 or 31 or whatever. There's a feel to it and I follow my gut.

I've watched people with teams that have all young players and all veterans as a rebuild tactic. We all know most young players won't pan out so this didn't work. The all veteran team got old too fast and he was back being a doormat.

So again, young and old, follow your gut.

I don't know if I would be that drastic. You can never look at someone's team and know for sure if you can compete long term. Someone looking at a division rival who had Hernandez, Harvin, nicks, and Ryan Matthews two years ago would have said " I can't compete"...and they would be dead wrong.

I think a better answer is look at your team honestly and if you can't say "yes, I can win this league THIS year," then you are in some form of rebuild because that is the goal each and every year ; to win the year you are playing in.

I think that is one of the biggest mistakes dynasty owners make in that they get so caught up with the word dynasty and think they have to have a roster of 26 year olds that they forget that to become a dynasty, you have to actually win at some point and then proceed.

I am a staunch believer in the idea that the very best dynasty teams, especially in large leagues and IDP, are the ones that have an obvious blend of old producing players and youth. You know the realistic nature of older vets better. They are typically more obtainable for cheaper prices, and you infuse youth to keep it going and being the next man up. Too much age and you obviously hit a wall and have to totally rebuild. Too much youth and I guarantee that you will find out somewhere that you're not nearly as smart at playing youtube scout as you think you are (none of us are or let's face it, we would have a real job scouting if we were that good).

Obviously it's not an all or nothing thing but we have one team (among other loaded teams) in our league with Luck, Kaep, Martin, Julio, Green, Nicks, Cruz, and Graham. Sure you can put together a scrappy team of older vets but it's fighting a losing battle unless you can get an infusion of top young talent. BTW, the team that I described above did exactly what I'm talking about after winning a title and sucked for 3 seasons to put that together.

Many of us could be scouts if we could somehow get our foot in the door. It is the ultimate crony bidness.

In a 12 team league I look at all the rosters and say how many teams would I say have a better starting line up then me. If I am one of the top 4, I am going for it. If you can get to week 15 and you are still alive for the title anything can happen in a one game playoff. If I am outside of those top 4 I am trading veterans or Arian Foster types to compete in future years
