Getting a little :headbang: in here today. I saw Krista's post, and thought maybe GNR was the band that was getting the 4 songs. Metallica it is - and not to be outdone, we have what is probably Megadeth's best song in the playlist so people are able to confirm that they are indeed the better band. ;)
Little story about Metallica. I met them backstage on the And Justice For All tour when I was 17. The only one that was cool to me was Kirk, the rest were absolute ******** to me. Barely said hi to me, and wouldn't even take the time to talk with a fan. Kirk was super cool, talked with me for 15-20 minutes. That was the day I was no longer a fan, I tossed all their tapes that I had and shirts.

@krista4 just for your record keeping, the Sodade song is a repeat. I took it earlier in the draft.

Also, I should have listed today's song as Amadou & Mariam, w/Manu Chao. I will enter it that way for the spreadsheet.

Preta Pretinha - Novos Baianos (Brazil)
(new artist)
I went away from Brazil for the past week, but back there. We were talking about the Rolling Stone Top 500 list recently — the Rolling Stone Brasil magazine named the album that this song was from their #1 greatest Brazilian album of all time (I’m sure the Brazilian equivalent of footballguys had vigorous debates about their list too).

Novos Baianos was a rock band that was heavily influenced by western rock music of late 60s/early 70s, but worked with Joao Gilberto of bossa nova/Ipanema fame on this album; it is a great combination of various Brazilian genres. This one is more of a ballad. I think the guitar on this one is great, with a build-up throughout, and has the call-and-response that I apparently love in any language. And my kudos to krista on picking up that Preta is Portuguese for black in her previews last night.

Nope, funny man. My sister got me backstage for my birthday. At the time she had all sorts of industry connections. I was able to watch Cinderella and Ratt from the side of the stage since she was tight with the band Britny Fox, who opened that tour. After Britny's set, we went back and hung out with them, and then once Cinderella started they walked me out to the side of the stage and I got to watch them. After their set, we went back to Britny's dressing room and hung out until Ratt went out. Rinse and repeat for Ratt, but I was able to meet a few of the guys from Ratt, super cool, but didn't get to meet anyone from Cinderella.

That sucks, but it tracks 100% the dynamic that seemed to play out in Some Kind of Monster. (great doc if you haven't seen it). Kirk comes off as chill and the others like dooshes - especially Lars.

Exactly like it was. Not everyone can be Dave Grohl.

Thanks. I had Sodade as a repeat in the official records but just messed up the post. And thanks for the correction on Manu Chao; I'll add them.

How do you say “Rolling Stone Garbage List” in Portuguese?

The saying is generally true, "Never meet your heroes." :sadbanana:

I feel like this is a perfect example of why it's typically not a good idea to meet celebrities......or listen to their politics.....or generally give a **** about them, other then the product they put out....we put these people on a pedestal, when in fact, they are just human beings, some of which are ********.

Master Of Puppets - Metallica

So, so good. I picked Bell Tolls yesterday, as that was my first real Metallica love, but this one is probably my favorite.
This is the song that most often gets chosen from the album of the same name.....and for good reason, it's great. The album is the climax of 80's metal. I prefer other songs from the album because they don't get the recognition they deserve.

Sorry I've been busy as hell! I'm coaching my son's TWO, yes I said TWO baseball teams and my daughter is in club volleyball.....we are running from sun up, to sun down, and then some!

Anyway, today's list is pretty awesome!

My Michelle is a deeper track from Appetite, and it's totally badass!

Lateralus......yep....put on the phones for this one baby!

Fade to Black.....Metallica got **** for this song as being too soft when it came out! That's nuts! It's about as metal as you can get. The content is heavy, and dark.....this is a turn up, and sing along every time I hear it.....never gets old.

MoP.....Blinded by me you can't see a thing! Just call my name cuz I'll hear you scream!!! MASTER! MASTER!

Shout out to @otb_lifer for “Brighton Rock”. Such an amazing guitar solo- one of the best ever.

not only my runaway favorite album of theirs, but i also think it their best, by same measure.

THAT is Brian's album - even though it established them as a major powerhouse, i feel it established him more as the next in the great line of British axmen - and he earned it on this one.

the entire tune is a humongous flex by all members (Freddie's falsetto, Deacon's thumping bass, Taylor's power and swing), but the centerpiece is Brian ... during live shows they would each leave the stage one by one (Freddie first), until only Brian was left to noodle with his reverb and echo and loops - that was his baby.

i love me some butch Queen, and this are butchiest.

**** miss wik dropping in with "Freddie's Falsetto" being the working title of his opus on the plight of caged go-go boiz ... or something of the like ****

I'll take Metallica's first four albums over just about anything ever released....but I have a soft spot for Mustaine.....Peace Sells, Rust in Peace, Countdown, and Youthanasia are all part of my soundtrack from high school......I think Peace and Rust are both masterpieces.

Been my favorite from the album since forever. Knowing my pick was a reason I asked the question about Appetite since this and stuff like Rocket Queen had been taken. My next pick would be Think About You.

I've posted elsewhere too, but Megadeth has grown on me in the last decade. I listened to Killing is My Business the other week, and thought it was every bit as good as Kill 'Em All. IMO both Ride the Lightning and So Far So Good are inconsistent. Then I agree that Peace and Rust are masterpieces along with Master and And Justice. Then Megadeth has better albums as we dig deeper and especially recent output. Of course, JMO.

Anything after And Justice... is mighty suspect as far as I'm concerned, so I suspect you're right on this. I had already sort of really moved on from Metallica once the Black album came out. I don't even really care all that much for And Justice... save for a couple of songs.

Peace Sells is a stone cold thrash classic. So Far So Good So What is uneven, but still quality thrash, IMO.

Should I skip tomorrow since it's Easter and also will have a lot of Masters going on? I don't care either way, since I'm not an Easter celebrant.
If you did that, and assuming the US has Monday as a holiday as we do, then it would have the unintended side effect of pushing my next but one reveal into a work day and making the playlist last all day*, so there is that I guess

* - potential moderate hyperbole

My song is perfect for tomorrow so I vote whatever what you want to do.

:)

Why yes it is! Westerberg's has a little connection, too. I'm gonna stick with posting tomorrow.

Weird, I was looking at tomorrow and Monday's picks, and among the three days there is a lot of overlap in songs, and not necessarily the highest-ranked ones overall.

We don't get Monday off here, because we suck.*

Probably...but thats up to you. Weekends are usually pretty slow as is.
Spring weekend listening doesn't work in my world. That's the primary reason I fell behind and am not gonna ketchup. Just bummed I've been too distracted at work to engage during the windows I had during the american countdown.
