Where in the world is Adam Schefter? (1 Viewer)

I haven't seen Adam Schefter on NFLN in at least a few weeks. They have other guys filling in for him dishing the newest dirt, but I haven't heard why he is on hiatus.

Is he still employed by NFLN?

I read somewhere that his contract dispute has reached an impasse and, while his contract doesn't expire until August, the NFLNetwork has basically decided to shut him down until: 1) the contract is resolved, or 2) August when he'll be gone. Hard to believe they continue to keep him off the air but I thought I read where the NFL Network is losing money so it might be a practical business decision.

Contract dispute. He wants a cool million a year. Equal to what Glazer and Mort make. And it sucks. Made me wanna puke knowing they had garbage man Mike Florio on Total Access.
Give me a break. Your assessment of Mike Florio says a lot more about you than it does about him.Glazer and Mort may be the gold standard of NFL information while Florio offers more rumor mill and less mainstream information. He doesn't state otherwise. His appearance on the NFL's own network carries a lot of weight in legitimizing his sources and ability to collect information. In the end, that information is all we want anyway.

Everyone has to go on vacation once in awhile

What's up with Adam Schefter, alumnus of Bellmore Kennedy High and one of the NFL Network's most recognizable figures?

Schefter hasn't blogged on NFL.com since March 3, hasn't appeared on "Total Access" since March 6 and now is nowhere to be seen at the owners' meetings in California.

All Schefter would say about it Monday was this: "I’m under contract to NFL Network until the middle of August, and I’ve been very happy there and I’m hoping we can work things out."

Hmm. OK, so it appears there is a lack of an agreement on the financial terms of a contract extension. From what I have heard, this involves a quite substantial gap.

But why the mysterious disappearance from the network at the busiest time of the offseason?

The NFL Network's statement on this matter: "We are moving forward with the talented staff who will be on NFL Network and NFL.com during the 2009 season."

Interesting. Adam is a hard worker and has built up quite a set of contacts. I would say he's broken [correctly] a lot more stories than Mort and Clayton combined over the last three years. I figured he was already making $1mm or thereabouts.

I've been tuned out of NFLN lately but the Cutler soap opera drew me back in. I was asking myself this same question last night.

Bring back Shefter. The NFL Network owes it success (in my household at least) to Rich Eisen and Adam Shefter.

A TV guy holding out? Now I've seen everything.
This is more of a player lock out than a hold out. Schefter wants more loot, they're at an impasse so the NFLN is not using him on air. Doesn't sound like it's his choice. There are contract negotiations and posturing for on air talent all the time, by the way.

I like those two as much as anybody but when push comes to shove we all tune in for football news, not the personalities that cover the sport.Must admit I'm surprised these guys make $1 mil/year.

 I just hope that Adam Schefter doesn't end up like Sean Salisbury but that's probably what's gonna happen.

I don't think so. Schefter is probably the best NFL info guy out there. He also does a good job of staying pretty objective, and not putting his foot in his mouth (like Mort, for instance). The NFLN isn't the only game in town, and he'd have a job pretty darn quick if he left. Salisbury was an obnoxious ex-player. Plenty of those around.Of course, now that I think about it, I wonder how many of his scoops were because he was employed by the NFL. I really don't know.

Not a very promising statement in any way about Shefter's future employment at NFLN.
They are negotiating a contract; you're not going to hear glowing reports about a guy they want to pay less than he wants to be paid.

True, it is hard to know the source of the contacts. If it is the reporter, it is probably worth $1mil to a network to be credited as the one with the scoop.

I don't miss Salisbury at all. If ESPN were smart, they would hire Shefter.

It's been a looooong time since he was local here in Denver, and I used to run into him once in a while in LoDo.

I'm sure he deserves more bank, but it's probably a tough sell if the network is losing money. Even if they are, I'd rather see AS get paid and dump that goof ball Dukes or even Sapp. I do like Mayock, Woodson (go boilers), and Eisen though.

You really have to question how the NFL is handling the NFL network. They're fighting with cable companies and charging them premium rates but get upset at the cable cos for adding them to paid tiers and therefore not expanding their visibility and nickel&diming their top talent.

Question.....

Has the NFL made Adam Schefter, or has Adam Schefter made it himself?

Does the NFL give scoops to Schefter so that he can break the news and make a better name for himself? Or does Schefter legitimately break that much news?

When watching the NFLN ticker, you always see that there is breaking news per Adam Schefter. Has Schefter broke all those stories himself, or is the NFL allowing Schefter to take a lot of credit in order to build his persona for the NFL Newtork and NFL?

I realize the NFLN is trying to boost their assets and that is why you never see a broken news story on the ticker which says "per Jay Glazer", but how much of it is Schefter, and how much is actually just handed to him?

I am noticing that the news that is being broken right now by NFLN is rehashed stories. On Friday they had "breaking news" that James Harrison was close to resigning. Too bad I had read that was being reported 3 hours earlier by someone else. Adam Schefter had a good reputation being a sportswriter in the Denver area. I wish Cecil could say more.

I think you are leaving out how he handles himself and delivers the news he gathers. He is an enjoyable listen and watch. Some people are very entertaining (along with some knowledge) and the delivery is very key. Adam is top notch.
He needs to learn how to control that cheesy grin though. Part of being a good television broadcaster is having expressions that suit the topic being discussed. A lot of times it doesn't fit the topic and ends up making him look smug or something.

Good maybe he won't be around to ruin the draft this year.
Something happened to Berman?
No but that's the point. The NFLN & Mike Mayock were my salvation until Shefter decided to prove how plugged in he was & determined that viewers ought to hear the next pick from him rather than the commish.
:lmao: :hot: :lmao: Boomer did this in 2006 on ESPN's draft coverage and people were pissed. He hasn't done it since.

I had read that they wont be doing that again and that NFLN had quite a few complaints about Schefter doing that.
