Where should Laurent Robinson go? (1 Viewer)

After seeing a similar thread about Bradshaw, I thought it would be good to start this one.

A lot of very informed people are very high on this guy, and I am beginning to wonder where he should go in rookie drafts, as he should be available in shallow leagues.

Having never seen him play, period. I am not the best person to evaluate him. However, from what I have read he is a large, physical WR that also has speed. I am going to certainly have to think about taking him at 2.11 if he is still around. It would be difficult for me to put any of the rookie WRs ahead of him.

Where do you think Robinson should go in a FA/Rook draft?

I like Donnie Avery and Malcolm Kelly slightly more, but Robinson is definitely worth considering right around the time they go off the board, and he could go before them. If he's there at 2.11, I would not hesitate to take him.

I agree with Bloom. Given the lack of sure things in this year's WR crop, you could make a case for Robinson as one of the first few receivers off the board if he were available in your rookie draft. He should probably be drafted somewhere between 1.07-2.04.

I can see Avery, but I do not see how you can like Kelly more. He is on a team with much more competition at the WR position than Robinson, and has not shown anything yet. I do not even think he is the best rookie on his own team. Kelly raised too many issues with his speed and then choosing to place blame on everyone and everything but himself, for me to have him ahead of Robinson.

I took Kelly over Robinson in one of my drafts. I like his inherent WR skills and his king-sized frame. I read that based strictly on the game tape, several personnel evaluators had him graded as a top 20 pick. He fell because of poor 40 times and questions about his knees, but he's a promising talent.

:thumbup:Best hands in this class, best blocking WR, and one of the best in the air.

I have a lower opinion of L Robinson's prospects than a lot of folks, so I'll leave myself out of it and suggest (if you are a subscriber) looking at the FBG staff dynasty WR rankings. They will give a reflection of the thinking of 7 knowledgeable folks around these parts...

Yes, these rankings show all WRs, but it's not hard to see what order Laurent and the rooks are listed in and go from there. For example, Tefertiller has Laurent #49, and rookies Thomas (#28), Sweed (#38), Kelly (#42), and Manningham (#48) ahead of him.

These 7 opinions will at least be a good start toward forming your own opinion.

Malcolm Kelly = Mike Williams part deux with bad kneesI think Laurant is pretty over-rated on this board as well, but i'd still take him over Kelly.

I took him in the 10th round in a recent dynasty startup (Zealots). Roddy White went in the 4th round in the same draft.

I like him quite a bit. He showed a lot in his rookie year and has moved into the starting lineup. I think he will do well especially if you can wait a bit. IMHO he will overtake White as the #1 in Atlanta sooner rather than later, but some will view that as blasphemy. (I think White is overrated.)

Edit to add I think he should go 1.10 - 2.05

Are there any knocks on this guy? Everyone has good thing to say about him, but there seems to be no criticisms. If his game is that good, why should he be drafted behind Avery and Kelly who are yet to play a down?

He had a couple of bad fumbles last year but I dont know if it was entirely his fault. He tooks some wicked shots last year due to bad ball placement. That would be my knock on him and also the fact that he went to a small school so the learning curve might be alittle longer but I think thats overrated.

As far as negatives, he's a little bit skinny. Not quite Todd Pinkston, but not quite rock solid either. He also didn't finish some of his catches as well as he should've for a guy with 4.3 speed. Just based off some of the highlights I saw, he looked a bit hesistant at times. Some of that should be attributed to the rookie WR jitters though. Remember, he came out of a 1-AA school, so the leap up was a lot bigger than it was for someone like Dwayne Bowe or Sidney Rice. 2008 should be a telling year for Robinson. Now that he's a starter, he has a chance to show his skills.
