Where will Rudi Johnson end up? (1 Viewer)

Where will Rudi Land?

I think Houston would be a likely spot. I can see them giving up Andre Davis or Jacoby Jones for Rudi.

If that happens A. Green would be on the street in a second.

Earlier in the day we reported the Bengals are rumored to be shopping veteran rusher Rudi Johnson with hopes of finding an interested trade partner, and that Johnson told reporters he was unaware of any such actions. Tonight we are hearing a different story, both from Johnson and the Bengals, according to the Associated Press. After hearing an ESPN report that the Bengals were interested in trading him for a receiver, Johnson called his agent and had an inkling that he would be moving on. "I could be gone any minute now," the running back said after practice. "I'm just waiting on the call, looking at the clock. That's all. So you know, it is what it is. Nothing's surprising. It's always something every year. They've been trying to get me out of here for a long time now. So it's not surprising at all."

I don't think they'll get an Andre Johnson for him, if he has hammy problems again this year.

I thought I heard/read that he could get cut if they can't work out a trade by the roster cut deadline (which I think is Friday afternoon).

This is dumb. Who would trade for him when they could get Alexander/Benson/Henry/others who will be cut Saturday for almost nothing?

Pat Kirwan on NFL Sirius last night said his contract is $3.9 million. Nobody will trade ANYthing for Rudi, PLUS take on his health risk, PLUS pay that contract.

If a team really does want him, they can wait for him to be cut, then offer him a contract that will be MUCH cheaper than the $3.9 million AND not have to give up anything for him.

You guys are nuts if you think a trade is going to happen. He's either going to play the next preseason game and do well and get back into the starting RB mix, OR he's going to remain hurt and not play and get cut, OR he plays, but poorly, and gets cut.

Completely agree here...they were saying on the radio here in cincy, if they get offered a 7th round pick they will jump all over it and the only other way they will get anything is if someone else is giving up a bad contract in return....so Rudi is either a bengal or gonna get cut.

The Bengals are getting nothing for Rudi Johnson. Rudi Johnson has been fighting injuries the entire preseason. It appeared like he might be done last year. I think it is highly doubtful that the Bengals will get anyone to give them anything.

Read a rumor on another site about him possibly going to DET possibly for Furrey with Cinci paying part of his salary.

Pure speculation I believe but not completely out of the realm of possibility.

Listening to John Clayton yesterday, there wasn't a good chance of a trade. Basically for all the reasons mentioned before...

Eh, as a Lions fan I'm kinda... bleh on that. They likely could just pick him up off of waivers if they let him go. If they have such little faith in Bell and Kevin Smith, then I guess I could see that. Or likely it's that they have faith in Smith, but not Bell and want a more capable, veteran backup... I kinda like Furrey. Not a flashy guy, but not bad for a #4. Would hate to see him go..

Bengals | R. Johnson has chance to earn starting job Thursday

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 19:07:48 -0700

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday, Aug. 26, that RB Rudi Johnson could earn the starting running back spot by showing "he's a better ballplayer" than RB Chris Perry during the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 28.

Assuming he's cut, the Browns would have to be interested. Not much depth behind Lewis, plus he would come from a division rival.

Saints, Bucs, and Bears could all use an upgrade to their #2 spot.

Why would Houston have the slightest interest in trading for an injured RB who's going to be 29 this season?

Andre Davis just signed a new contract, and they still like Jacoby Jones who's going into only his 2nd season. Little chance they give either of those guys up.

Because they have a 30+ y.o. and backs who are injured and Because all their backs are pretty average and their starter is currently an undersized rookie? :lmao:

Anyone else get the feeling he'll miraculously feel 100% on Thursday and play hard knowing that $3,900,000 is on the line?

Seems to be the trend with running backs these days... they only play hard if big money is on the line. And once they get the dough they stink it up...

He's displayed he's the most talented RB they have, but that's not saying much. And his recent play is definately NOT worth $3,900,000/year.

Really?Saints have Deuce, Reggie, Pierre and Stecker. They're deep and proven effective overall.

Bucs have Graham, Bennett, Dunn and Cadillac. Cad's back in week 6, I know, but still....

Bears have Kev Jones, Forte and 2 scatbacks in Peterson and Wolfe.

Each of these teams seems like they have their RB situation covered, I think. There are teams that are badly in need help at #2 but these aren't them. Eagles? Browns? Houston? Seattle? St Louis? Heck, even Denver comes to mind here...

This whole thing does stink of motivational ploy. They were working on both Rudi and the young WRs when they leaked "Rudi for a real WR". It's not like Chris Perry has actually impressed enough in the preseason to think he's the man at 3.4/carry.

Perhaps I'm just overvaluing Rudi, but...

Saints have Deuce, Reggie, Pierre and Stecker. They're deep and proven effective overall.
Count me in the camp that believes there's no way Deuce can be effective on those damaged pins. And Pierre and Stecker don't impress me much. This is the least likely scenario though.
Bucs have Graham, Bennett, Dunn and Cadillac. Cad's back in week 6, I know, but still....
Graham's contract was extremely team friendly, which means they're not totally sold on him. Bennett is a total stiff. Dunn is nothing but a role player at this point. And Cadillac may return in week 6, but then again he may not.
Bears have Kev Jones, Forte and 2 scatbacks in Peterson and Wolfe.
Forgot about Jones. He's been looking pretty good too, hasn't he?

I already threw out Houston/Seattle/Cleveland, so I'm with you there. St. Louis has Pittman and Leonard. Eagles have Booker and ????.Like I said, I may be overrating Rudi, but I think he's a better #2 option than a lot of the guys you're throwing out.

At this point is an injured Rudi Johnson better than an injured Ahman Green or an injured Chris Brown? I used to be a big supporter of Rudi, but I'm not so certain of the answer to that question anymore.Opportunity cost is the main reason that I doubt Houston would be interested. The Texans are a young team that needs its young players and every pick it can get its hands on. I can't see them trading anything of value for someone that might be only marginally better than a Chris Taylor or Steve Slaton RBBC.

Now if Rudi is waived, that's a different story.

I am cautious about my expectations for Deuce. They still have Reggie, Stecker and Thomas. Thomas has been impressive every time he is on the field. If Deuce sputters then Payton will have no hesitation in plugging in Pierre, I think.

Graham might not be sexy but he was effective. I think he got snookered some by Gruden's talk of Cadillac's amazing recovery. I'm not a fan of Bennett but there is no denying he's looked good this preseason. Dunn just gives them options.
Forgot about Jones. He's been looking pretty good too, hasn't he?
He looked good the other night.

There is no reason for any St Louis or Philly fan to be excited by their #2's. Rudi would be an instant upgrade.
Like I said, I may be overrating Rudi, but I think he's a better #2 option than a lot of the guys you're throwing out.
I'm not so much singing the praises of these other players but more the fact that the pieces fit their particular puzzles. Rudi has shown to be better than most of them. However, his production isn't impressive enough for most coaches to shake up their plans for a lazy, indifferent and/or discontented player. Seriously, that Marvin is willing to bring back a jackass like Henry but part ways with Rudi might be a telling statement.

No way Marvin relies on Chris Perry. How could he? Oh but then there's Watson. Really? One back to count on? Irons is gone already.

I don't see this happennin' unless Rudi is traded for another RB and I can't think of who that could be either. Definitely feels like "why bother?"

I also agree it's motivational.

Telling of Marvin more than the players in question, IMO.
I'm fine with how Marvin handled the players. Oh I won't like the lack of depth but...Henry is unemployed and pitching his services everywhere, no one signs him, and he comes crawling back. His ego needed to be put in check and maybe it'll all work out.Rudi(and countless other players) has been sitting on his tail waiting for the season to come while others are bustin' trying to make the roster. Sure sounds to me like Marvin has "had enough".I'm not sure what else Marvin can do here. Rudi has a real or fake injury and he can't force him to practice or play. He's not Henry's mother so he kicked him to the curb hoping he'd get it together and come back. He has struggled to deal with the pamperred players and the troublemakers he's been given but, I think he's doing OK dealing with it this summer.
