I offer this poll as a result of a conversation between some league mates.

The guys that has lost one game all year says he hates being the "clear" favorite. The Guy that has won the lucky games thinks he's bound to have his luck run out. The good team that has hit a slump is griping about guys underperforming. And the guy that needs some help seems to be the most interested of everyone, watching his games, his opponents games, etc.

I've always thought its pretty much a crap shoot once the playoffs start and really only matters that you DID make it. But is there something to it? Seem odd that the guy that seems most excited is the guy that has the least chance to make it?

I voted for the team backing in (just figured I know I CAN win, just hoping the luck swings back the other way at the right time.

I like to be the team that is flying under the radar and playing well heading into the playoffs but doesn't shoot their load right before the playoffs start.

The only one I wouldn't want to be is the last one. The question assumes that the playoffs are secure, and the last one doesn't sound like it. Seriously, you have to be pretty neurotic to fret over what type of playoff team you have. The whole point is to get to the playoffs. That's no small feat, and congrats are in order to have managed your team with a good draft and in-season managmement skills. As to the playoffs, they are so far in the future, I don't see the point in worrying about them too much. A lot is going to happen between now and then. Some marquee names are going to go down and IR'd. Somebody from the waiver wire is going to be a last minute add that wins some leagues. The luck factor is too great to be able to reasonably account for.

If I have a vote, it's for the best team even if they are on a cold streak. Because talent usually stacks the deck in your favor. But in the end it's all a crap shoot.

I am a variation of good team *possibly* backing in... and I can tell you it sucks. I wouldn't wish that on any other FF'er. Basically, I have the most points. I beat #2 by 70 total FP. In a 14 team league, I've scored in the top 3 the last 4 weeks and have 1 win(against my brother) to show for it. I have gone from 1st to possibly not making the playoffs. Worst of all no matter what I do, I haven't been able to change outcome. My perspective may change once I make playoffs, but it is incredibly frustrating. Personally, I'd rather be the guy that dominates and skates in. Than your playoffs are only 2/3 games. Where the last 5 games of my season have felt like playoff games.

Sorry....needed to vent

Points is points -- and the more the better, so the dominant team is the most likely to continue to win. the only caveat is that players can be rested in week 16 (maybe even week 15). it is also true that there will be week-to-week variation, but i'd much rather have a team that has provided the most points with the least variation over the course of the regular season.

I'm finding it hard to understand why anyone would pick anything but the dominant team (assuming all the players that led to their dominance are still healthy and active, etc). There's no pressure in fantasy football, it's not like you're actually stepping out onto the field on Sunday.

This is basically like the gambler's fallacy. I'd rather be the dominant team than the one with players who have recently been underperforming.

This. Plus, if you're dominating it means you have a good playoff seed (plus a 1st round bye if 6 teams make the playoffs). Superstition aside, you always want the easiest road to the title.

How bout the dominant, leading scoring team, that still is likely to miss the playoffs, at 10-2, cause his division is raping the rest of the league...Sigh

If you can go 10-2 and miss the playoffs there's probably something wrong with your league setup.
