Which Lions WR comes out ahead vs Atlanta? (1 Viewer)

As per NFL.com depth charts:

--right/left as per the team's perspective: i.e. right for Furrey is the right side of DET offense, while right for Hall is the right side of the ATL defense --

DeAngelo Hall (LCB) will be paired against Mike Furrey.

ROY draws Jason Webster (RCB).

My questions are:

(Detroit homers) what type of formations are the norm for Detroit? Is ROY on the left most

snaps or do they bounce him in and out of the slot or opposite side? Will Furrey do the

same, or is he restricted to one side of the ball?

(Atlanta homers) how do the Falcons line up their secondary? Will the CB's swap sides to

stick with assigned receivers or do they play one side of the ball (which is what I recall of

ATL games I've seen -- haven't seen many though)?

I see where there could be many parallels to the Colts/Broncos game. If Hall sticks to the

left side only (i.e. Champ Bailey) and DET uses its WR's similar to the Colts, then ROY should

have a MONSTER game. However, if Hall lines up versus ROY, could Hall shut him down

similar to Bailey vs Harrison?

I would find it hard to believe that Roy will not be coverd by DeAngelo Hall. No way that Mora lines up a rookie (Webster) against a monster like Roy. If they do they will be in trouble.

If true, then Williams will be huge.Either way, I expect him to have a good game.As of week 8 (Clayton hasn't released this week yet), the Falcons gave up the fourth most FPs to WRs - just ahead of Washington and behind Greenb Bay, Seattle, and St. Louis.Detroit's at home and the team has started congealing into a Mike Martz offense. Williams, Jones and Kitna could be solid every week and Furrey is probably about as good a WR3 as you can get - he's averaging 8 targets a game and catching 66 percent of the passes thrown his way.

Webster is not a rookie. He has been in the NFL seven years ...You may be thinking of Jimmy Williams, who is not getting a whole lotta playing time ...I do, however, agree that Hall will spend more time on Roy.

it seemed to me in watching the ATL v CIN game that whenever Housh or CJ caught a ball they had Webster on them

i can only recall a few catches that CJ had where Hall was covering him

this leads me to believe that each has a side of the field rather than a specific player assignment

I'm very curious if they give Mike Williams a chance to dress. The Hakim move was kind of baffling considering who they have.

Well, I glanced through the Full Play-By-Play for Atlanta's games (NFL.com). Doesn't really shed any light on where Hall lines up -- mainly since you can't judge alignment/assignment based on passes defensed and tackles made. The overall trend, 6 of 8 games, appeared to have him sticking to one side of the field -- but that really isn't reliable at all.

So, hopefully some homers show up ...

my understanding is that ATL plays a lot of cover zone. There should be different matchups throughout the game with no CB marking a specific WR.

I'm hearing pretty heavy rumblings here in Atlanta that Webster is on super thin ice right now due to his awful play.

We'll probably see Atlanta's rookie CB, Jimmy Williams their 6' 2" 2nd round pick, replacing him soon & it wouldn't surprise me if it was this week.
