i want to be president so i can say hello my fellow bromericans and then i would slap some tearifs on china so we could take the money we make on imports to the bank and put detroit back to work take that to the bank bromigos
Actually we have been exporting inflation to China for years. It is just starting to have an effect as their growth slows. We actually have a pretty good thing going.

Besides the best way to further enhance our manufacturing sector is single payer. GM claims single payer would save them 4k a car in total cost to manufacture. And of course we need to be careful with these myths that we don't make anything here. We are the second largest manufacturer in the world. In 2008 our manufacturing output was greater than China and India's combined. Yes manufacturing is a small part of our 13 trillion dollar economy but over a trillion in output isn't exactly nothing either. So this constant refrain that we don't make anything here rings somewhat hollow.
listen i will be honest here and this might shock you but i do not understand most of what you said so hey how about you come on as my secretary of the economy and we will kick some china butt together brohan take that to the bank

I could see Michael Douglas run, or maybe I'm just thinking about watching The American President.

Sigourney Weaver?

Tebow is at least as legitimate a candidate as Santorum. Essentially the same ticket with more sex appeal and sports to bridge the gap to non-Christians who don't give a ####. Plus the war-time speeches would be fantastic.

Jon Stewart - IF - he hammered out a deal with Chik-fil-a that put chicken sandwiches in every school cafeteria in exchange for CFA's undying support.

WIN ####### WIN.

First thought was Buffett. Then I read the thread. Still think Buffett is the best and most likely of everyone mentioned, though I think the right answer is probably none of them.

So anyone over 35. Who would definitely win the election if they decided to run for president? Any athlete, actor, musician, religious figure, writer, news anchor or anyone else famous? Are there any? Back in the day someone like Walter Cronkite was so respected and beloved that if he ran he probably would have won. Is there anyone currently who fits the bill?

Only name I came up with who I think would win for sure would be Oprah Winfrey.
First person I thought of, too, though the thought disgusted me. Of those you listed, I voted for her, Warren Buffett, Tom Hanks and Bill Gates. Pretty sure I wouldn't vote for any of them, except perhaps Gates, but those seem like the clear choices.

If Schwarzenegger had the natural born citizenship requirement, he'd win in a landslide as a center-right Republican.

Jesse Ventura would make an interesting candidate, but he's both too unconventional to win and too smart to ever run for POTUS.

Ventura isnt too smart for anything. In fact, many believe he is a moron.

Wouldn't be a real option because he is not an American but the celebrity who could win a big time election would be Bono and it wouldn't be close.

I'd go out on a limb and say "none of them".
Let's hope
Fred Thompson had a few supporting film roles and he became a legitimate contender for the gop nomination for awhile. Imagine was a superstar could do. You just need to speak coherently and be able to articulate your position. The rest is image. Al Franken won a Senate seat, Sonny Bono was a representative. Someone like Tom Hanks would make every other candidate seem small. Imagine him on stage during the gop debates. The other candidates would giggle and stutter in his presence. They wouldn't be able to hammer the guy. The presidency makes unknowns into the most famous person in the world, imagine someone already globally famous getting the job. Hanks' speeches would bring out millions of people anywhere in the world.

Even an idiot pro wrestler was able to be elected governor. A pro wrestler!
Proving Minnesota has a bunch of idiot voters

As does everywhere else.

Of the names listed, probably the one with the best chance is Bill Gates. And it still probably isn't a great chance.

None of them. And it wouldn't be close.

Electing a president is a different story than electing a senator or even a governor. The people usually need to see them perform well in a smaller forum before they can make it to the White House.

I agree with the suggestion from earlier that Arnold would've been more likely than any of these names had he been eligible. If another famous, well liked actor could grab a governor's nod in California, it seems to be a good path to the Presidency.

And yet Obama somehow became president.

I voted none. But the thought does occur to me to remember who Minnesota has a Senator so I guess anything is possible.

Morgan Freeman would be interesting. Frank Caliendo would make billions on that.

How about way out of left field......... Robert Downey Jr. He could show up to the debates with the Iron Man costume. Women love him. Young men want to be him. And the rest of us would be laughing so hard we would miss the time we have to vote and he'd win in spite of us.
