In one league I can choose between drafting at the 11 or at the 12-1 turn. If I choose 11 the guy drafting at the 12 spot will be a new member of the league that I have never drafted against.

So basic question is it worth more to move up one spot in the first, or to have the security of back-to-back picks (something I've always liked).

I like the 11 spot because you can pretty much guesstimate the turn's pick. If he has goes WR/WR at the turn then in the 3rd and you can not decide between a RB or Wr here, chances are he will take that RB before he takes that WR. Same can be said if you like to target a top TE and QB.

Yes, but really not much of a difference.

Thanks but I am just as split on this as I was before, as is the voting. Anyone else with some insight?

^If the turn drafter has one QB and you need one, you can wait until it comes back to you to draft the QB and get another player of need before it hits the turn.

It's a game of information and you have perfect information for your first pick about what will be available for your next pick if you take the 12 slot. It allows for a lot of moves that you can't do otherwise (example if you're drafting QBBC and the guy still needs a QB you're stuck grabbing half and hoping he doesn't grab the other guy you want, if you go after you get to see if he takes that guy and if not then both your guys are available, if so you still have time to change plans effectively).

I think the 12 is a no-brainer here.

Edit: I also think there's a good chance you get burned at some point guesstimating what the new guy is going to do with 2 straight picks.

Pick 11

Not even close IMO. You should be able to figure out what he is drafting most of the time. With the 12 pick, how many times might he take the guy that you wanted first?

I found that the 11-spot (or really 9-spot in the 10-teamer I'm in) is the one consolation for the years I've come in as runner-up. As others have said, if you have 2 QBs you like equally you can let them both slide and take a better skill player with the 11-spot, saving one of the other for 14-spot. Same thing for TE and other position groups.

Why not do a couple mock drafts from each position and see how those pan out? You'll see what happens at each spot and get comfortable with each of 'em.
