Which QB would you want trade to get for the Fantasy Playoffs? (1 Viewer)

A little exercise in shark thinking.

If you had to trade for a QB for the fanatsy playoffs, who would you trade for?

We throw out the "untouchable" QBs (or the ones that would be too expensive): P Manning, McNabb, C Palmer, and Bulger. (Bulger could be had, but most owners who have him drafted him early and will value him higher than he may be worth. I am tempted to put Grossman on this list, but In some leagues I am sure he can still be acquired in trade).

Looking at weeks 13 - 17. Let's hear em and why.

Im in the QB market myself. I got 3 right now (Delhomme, Rivers, Leinart) who have all been way too up and down for me to feel comfortable with one for a whole season, although Rivers is growing on me. None of them have more than 1 good playoff week (14-16) games either, so I started looking around.

I just started a post about it, but Im thinking about Hasselbeck right now. He had a big game this week, but in the league im looking at him in he's still the #13 QB. Branch seems to be getting more comfortable, Alexander will be back in a couple, and he has 6 easy games the rest of the way (including ARI week 14, SF week 15). He does have SD week 16, but my thinking on that is you have to get to the championship in the first place for that game to even matter, and secondly you could make sure you have a backup with a good game that week in you'd rather go that way. Any other QB who is weekly starter material didn't seem to have a better schedule or playoff schedule than him either.

Plus, the guy in my league has him and Bulger, which helps. And I have MBIII and he has Julius Jones, which helps. So Im thinkin about a MBIII+1 of my qbs for Hasselbeck

Good timing on an interesting topic, Gatorman. I'm coming out with a mid-season QBBC article on Wednesday that specifically addresses this question.

If you have Bulger, then think about picking up Trent Green. That would yield Bulger @ Oak in Week 15 and Green @ Oak week 16.

Alex Smith has shown the world he really is an NFL caliber QB, QB Rate 86.4; 109/183/1285 8TD 4Int ... week 13 @NO; week 14 GB; week 15 @Seattle; week 16 Arizona ... I like this schedule, should be several high scoring affairs

I think he's definately in the obtainable catagory and should be had at a very reasonable price. He's looking more and more NFL ready every week and has complete control of a Norv Turner Offence

:bag:

I'm in the same situation, with Favre, Vick, and Smith, a lot of inconsistencies there. What scares me about playing a guy against a team like the raiders is that there is no need to pass all that often Rivers something like 11 attempts, and look at plummers numbers last night.

Oakland is #1 in the NFL in pass defense right now. They might not be that good, but if teams can run on them, they don't have to pass as much. I'd want to face Oakland in those weeks with my RB, but not QB.

Favre has SF in week 14 and Det in week 15. Both are in the bottom 4 in the NFL in pass defense right now.

Alex Smith has a good playoff schedule, too.

Kitna has GB week 15.

Excellent Thread topic. Now I look at weeks 14-16...virtually no league I am in plays anything meaningful week 17...so you have to sort of look at SOS for just weeks 14-16. You might find a QB that has 1 good match up out of the 3 but the other 2 are brutal and I downgrade those types. Here is a short list.

Rex Grossman: @ St Louis, TB, @Det...Guy has a cake schedule in December. Here are the problems.

1. Will he still be playing if the Bears lock it up...if they are 12-1 and have it wrapped up, could be a lot of Brian Griese out there and he may even be a nice sneaky WW move you can make now.

2. Throwing in December in Chicago...not so good. No matter who is standing back there.

Alex Smith: GB, @Sea, AZ...Is getting better every week, he has nothing to lose down the stretch, may even play better. Not a super easy schedule but he is not playing anything that would be classified as tough or bad.

Drew Brees: @Dall, WASH, @NYG...Yes Yes Yes...the fact is they are going to be in it coming down the stretch. He has weapons and is winning football games. Sean Payton has designed an offense to his liking and the Phins are looking like fools for not signing him. Nothing tough at the end of season but not ultra easy either...I am sure he is a guy that can be had for the right price. Those 3 games may look scary to some but I see them as more high scoring than low scoring...those teams will be fighting with NO for palyoff spots, should be decent scoring games.

Tom Brady: I'm just saying...@Miami, HOU, @Jax

Brad Johnson: MN has an easy schedule but I hate their offense so I pass.

Michael Vick: Again, he can go up against the Lions secondary every week and he would still post 2,500 yds passing for the entire season. Easy match ups but he not reliable to take advantage of them.

Hope this helps...the Griese thing just popped up when I wrote this, I think I might be looking to make a move for him...he really could be starting in the last 3 weeks of the season...or at least taking over quickly in these games...should you get Rex, you must take Griese too.

with lefty it seems if they can run the ball, he doesnt have great numbers, and its hard to figure out if they will be able to run the ball each week. It seems its either all run or all pass

I looked at this 2 weeks ago, and made some deals accordingly. I had Manning and Favre, still do, but was scared of Manning possibly not playing, or playing sparingly playoff weeks.

I got Carr on the cheap.

week 14

Favre vs SF

Carr vs TEN

Manning vs Jax

week 15

Favre vs DET

Carr vs NE

Manning vs CIN

week 16

Favre vs MIN

Carr vs IND

Manning vs HOU

If need be, I can take my pick in 14, play GB vs Detroit week 15, and then have Carr against an Indianapolis team that may be playing for nothing. Or just as good, Manning against Houston, playing for something.

Favre @ SF Week 14

Favre vs Det Week 15

Leinart @ SF Week 16

I have both these guys! :banned:
