Which QBs change protections? (1 Viewer)

Three observations led me to create this thread:

1. The talking heads explain what the Ravens just did to the Chargers as Herbert not knowing how to change protections at the line yet.

2. In pre-season, the talking heads heaped praise on Mac Jones because he was "already changing protections at the line".

3. A google search of which QBs change protection does not yield a useful list.

Understanding that "changing protections" is an over-simplification, is there any useful info on this topic out there not hidden behind a paywall?

It’s a misstatement to say Herbert does not know how to change protection. Who do they think called the line protection last year?

They signed Corey Linsley in the year off season and decided to lessen Herbert’s responsibility by having their new C call the line protection. Linsley used to call line protection in Green Bay. Pretty sure his QB changed it based on his presnap read.

Is someone suggesting Herbert does not have the ability or freedom to check into a different line protection based on what he sees presnap? Because I’m pretty sure that would make him singularly unique. It’s my understanding line protection is a basic fundamental responsibility of every NFL QB.

Am I wrong about that? I’ve been watching a lot lately of film this year from the YT channel QB School, and JT O’Sullivan explains in a very accessible way.

It was a segment on NFL network maybe around 5pm eastern?  Willie McGinest was breaking down how the Ravens shut down the Chargers, and he explained it away as failure to change protections when Wink Martindale called exotic looks like house blitz.  I think the other participants were David Carr and Mooch.
