Which team's sport championship drought ends next? (1 Viewer)

Okay, so in 2016, the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years. That seems to have opened the floodgates as since then the Astros won their first championship ever after 56 years, the Eagles won their first Super Bowl ever and their first championship in 57 years, and the Capitals just won their first championship ever after 44 years.

Who's next who hasn't ever won a championship or hasn't won a championship in a long time?

Edit to add: Forgot that the Cavaliers broke their 45 year drought in 2016. So that is 5 teams in 3 years that have broken a long drought.

It would be nice if the Indians could break their drought.
That's going to be awfully tough given the Red Sox, Yankees, and Astros. There's going to need to be a lot of luck involved in that.

I'd say the Browns have a better shot of 8-8 next year than the Indians do winning it.

Maybe the Brewers and the Brew Crew take it?

Gotta be the Cleveland Browns...

Hard to not like the direction they're heading in - what a time to be a Cleveland Browns fan!

NHL - Winnipeg.  Young and talented and easier path to finals.

NFL - Chargers. Window is closing with Rivers but they are close right now.

MLB - Washington Nationals.  Nobody is breaking through in the AL with Yankees, Astros and Red Sox poised to dominate, so take an NL team with a few SPs good enough to win a short series.

NBA - Sixers. Has to be an east team and maybe they get James, but this may be Boston for a while.

As much as I hate to say it the Vikings have to be up on this list.  Hope I jinx them.  The homer in me is hoping for the Brewers or Badgers in college football.

Vikings are certainly due.  Highest ever winning percentage in the NFL without having a super bowl win.  But as a Viking fan I won't believe it until they hoist the Lombardi above their heads.

I was gonna post this one.  Vikings/twin cities (teams in all four sports, no title since '91 I believe) seem like the most deserving and likely.  All four of the teams made the playoffs in their most recent seasons.  Count me in on the twin cities bandwagon.

Sun has got to set on Brady someday and Big Ben is pretty long in the tooth also. Leaves the AFC pretty wide open for some new teams to rise. One or more of the AFC South teams look like they could possibly take a SB in the next 2~3 years if the chips fall their way and none of Titans, Texans and Jax have ever won a Super Bowl (you'd have to go back to the Houston Oilers AFL championships for two of those teams/cities.)

Let's not forget their high profile D-1 college sports teams have mostly been miserable too.  Minnesota sports fans have had nothing to hang their hat on for a generation.   Obviously WNBA doesn't count.

Can we lower the standards to just advancing to the next round?

Lions - like 0 - 7 since their last playoff win, in 1991.

Pistons - haven't won a round in the playoffs since 2007-2008 season.

Tigers - since 2013

Red Wings - last won a round in 2013 shortened season

Sad part is for the next few years the Lions might be the only hope.

Disagree.  With a rotation of Kluber, Carrasco and Bauer, they can beat anyone in a short series.  They need to improve their bullpen and add a few other pieces but they will be a serious contender come playoff time.  Their starting rotation (in a playoff series) is better than the Yankees and Red Sox and they can match up with Houston.  Let's see what happens at the trade deadline.

actually, they made it to the finals their first 3 years in the league, only to lose all 3 times.  lol at saying they've never even gotten there.

wrong.  played for the cup in 1970 but lost
Played for the cup from 68 to 70 because the NHL was split into two divisions, one of the original six and one of the expansion teams. The playoffs were segregated by divisions until the finals when one team came from each division to play each other. So the Blues got to the finals for their first 3 years because they were the best of the expansion teams.

Great point. I overlooked that. I guess I'm just looking at the starts to the year. I'm not a baseball guy anymore, should have checked my own knowledge at the door.

This hurts, and I hope I'm jinxing them but I think the Leafs will win soon. They're not missing all that many pieces.

I believe the Indians have won more games than any other AL franchise over the last 4-5 years, and for good reason. Still a great team. The AL is loaded, of course, but the Indians should be in the mix again this year with some bullpen help or improvement.

That's fair. I pretty much conceded my point. Just spitballing on a Friday with some contrarian thought.
