Voted home league. I much prefer a chance to be a big fish in a small pond with real, ongoing human connections.

High stakes means high ante against the best competition and while the poll says "win", the reality is you lose most of those and that just equates to gambling in my opinion.

I should’ve also made it so if you win the high stakes league, you come in dead last in your home league in embarrassing fashion.

I'd rather be in a league that is managed properly and there's a better chance in a high stakes contest.
A couple years ago my niece and her husband started a family/friends league. Short money, I don't remember the exact amount. They didn't collect $$ up front. I won and sent out my info so others could pay up. Followed up with a reminder a month later. Only 3 paid. The next year when asked to "defend my title", I said, only if they would be collecting $$ up front since most never paid the 1st year. They didn't want to be too pushy so they didn't want to do that. So, I'm no longer participating. Probably makes me look like a *****. I don't care.

We have a few guys in our 12 team friends league who donate. One literally took Tucker in the 1st and defense in the 3rd to get laughs. Another took Gronk in middle rounds. Kamara went 2nd overall. It’s not serious despite being a $ league. Winning that league would make me feel guilty not great.

By default, I’d rather earn the big contest win. Bonus, the guys can gloat about beating Mr 50k. That would be funny as I send a selfie drying my tears with $100 bills.

I feel like you're answering a different poll question here. It's "which would you rather win" not "which would you rather play in".

Honestly don't understand the votes for home league, people would really turn down $50k for short-term bragging rights over a few friends?

Home league by a mile.

my main work league is going on 26 years and running. maybe only have one owner change every 5 years at the most. $100 buyin and a janky little trophy that we get the winner’s name engraved on each year. I LOVE my 3 dynasty leagues but winning this long time league is the main goal every year for bragging rights and the name on the crappy little trophy (my name is on there 4 times which is tied for most).

i love gambling but I also hate to lose (risk averse. Tight poker player), so high stakes leagues usually = big buy-in which = not for me.

YOU WON'T LOSE, YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO WIN :lmao:

Gimme the $50k!

My friends are all dickheads and we eat each other alive on our text chain either way.

I’d pay off the last week of my wife’s school debt and put money into all three of my kids tech school/college fund.

Voted home league cuz that's all I do, and two of em pay out pay out pretty well....several hundred, to about 1k. Ive done leagues with strangers and I didn't enjoy it really. I'm not ever gonna pony up the dough needed to win 50k in that kinda league.

Ha! Thats crazy! My friends leagues are waaaaay competitive. If you drafted tucker in the first ur house would be egged, tires slashed, etc ....you'd essentially be shamed out of the league.

Damn. Goin old school. House -> slap -> in front of wife an chil’rens.

50K pretty easily

Have won my home league enough times to not worry about bragging rights for a year. Can take a couple pretty awesome vacations with that kind of money

I suppose I could take the $50K and then brag to my league about that.

This question answers itself by looking at your bank account
Not always true.

Can I afford to join a high roller league? Yes
do I want to put that much money on something that has waaaay too much randomness in the outcome? No chance.

risk aversion.

But the question is, which would you rather win.

Even if you don’t normally play high stakes.

If YOU put up the $1k for me to join a high stakes league, sure, I’d rather win $50k.

I’ve got $50k from the league I won, so I’ll spot you.

Well yeah. Of course it’s gambling.

I’ll never join a high stakes league but if somehow I got a free entry and won $50k, that buys a boat. A boat provides opportunities with friends.

I honestly think anyone would prefer 50k than bragging rights. 50k can last for a while but bragging rights only last for the first 100 times you bring it up. After that most friends would just duct tape you to the nearest pole available with a shaming sign. You better pray for fair weather at that point.

To me this thread was more about risk/return. @Hot Sauce Guy how did you intend it?

OF COURSE I would rather win $50k over my $500 1st place in the local/bragging rights league.
but are we really assuming the win in a vacuum? If so, I change my vote to $50k. If not, home league is just fine, more realistic, and the dudes have been my friends for 25 years.
