Who are the offensive line prospects that would fit a zone blocking sc (1 Viewer)

Just wondering who are the offensive linemen that project as ZBS guys. The Packers struggled some and don't appear set even now in the middle of the line. Also Clifton and Tauscher are getting old and don't really fit that type of scheme, although both have made it work.

So which prospects fit into this scheme for the 2008 draft? I have a feeling Thompson leans this way at least once on day 1.

I think the top 3 tackles are all agile enough to play in the ZBS.

Long

Clady

Williams

Some more names at OT that can play in this system (JMO, I am no scout):

O'Neil Cousins

Jeremy Zuttah

Tony Hills

Interior Linemen (I haven't paid as much attention to these guys):

Chilo Rachal

Donald Thomas

Kory Lichtensteiger

You can pretty much eliminate guys that weigh more than 310 pounds, and once you read scouting reports that include the words "mauler" and "road grader", you can move on. Undersized, finesse players that can block on the move, that's what you're looking for.

I'm interested in this guy for sure. Thanks for the input. Kind of a special skillset in the ZBS like you mention. But obviously Tauscher and Clifton prove that a good player can play football.

They had the #4 offense in the league. They only struggled to run the first half of the year. Once Grant took over they gelled and were solid. He ran for over 900 yards in the last ten games. Clifton and Tauscher are in their prime at 31 and 32. OTs generally play excellent at this age for a couple more years. Should they start grooming someone? Sure. Is this a big problem? No. Between Moll and Colledge they probably have a decent OT in the making. My money is on Colledge. Spitz is a nice interior OL and he is very young. Wells and Coston are decent players too. This is a talented line that is developing on the interior and anchored by veteran cornerstones.

I think they should address the 32 and 33 year old corners and the weak link at SLBs early in this draft.

That said. Sometimes you're not just looking for the lighter guys, but the guys with good footwork in the running game to get to the second level where so much ZB is designed to work. Some of the lower rated OLs are very nice prospects this year. Someone will fall between Sam Baker, Tony Hills and Oneil Cousins and they'd be decent round 3 or 4 projects for a ZB OL. This is an awful class of guards, imo. Tony Hills, who played TE in HS and has great footwork, would be my target,

I was looking at Rachal as well, great prospect, but his injury history scares me. I really wonder about his longevity as far as the *more brutal* NFL game. :jawdrop:
