Who did you draft as your 2nd TE K or QB? (1 Viewer)

Please humor me:

Who did you draft as your 2nd TE? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet?

Who did you draft as your 2nd K? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet?

Who did you draft as your 2nd QB? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet?

I spent a good week researching leagues I was in, ones I could find through MFL search, buddies that threw me links etc and these all proved to GENERALLY have very very little value.

When you drafted any of the above, was there a RB or WR drafted by someone else in your league that is currently valuable to his FF team?

Thank you for your time, really thanks

Winslow. Still on team, has not started and won't start until Finley's bye.

Buehler. Cut, never started. Will pick up a random kicker when Crosby has a bye.

Hasselbeck. Will start this week as Romo is on bye, then be unceremoniously dumped.

20 round draft, 12 team league.

TE - T. Scheffler pick 16.06 - is starting for the 1st time this season as a flex only because of so much of my roster being game time decisions. Back up to T. Gonzo.

QB - M. Stafford pick 11.08 - backs up Rodgers, has not played and probably won't since I picked up Vick on waiver wire.

K - I never draft more than one. Selected G. Hartley pick 18.6. dropped him this week.

In a my 12 team league, I didn't draft a 2nd tight end. My 2nd QB was Kolb in the 10th or so, and he's long gone.

Why would anyone draft a 2nd kicker?

We have a rule that you have to draft 2 qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 2 k, 2 te, 2 dt - then remaining slots can be any position. However, after week 1 there are no positional roster limits. Weird.

K: Drafted Nugent w/ no backup

TE: Drafted Celek & Boss, Boss was dropped after week 2, Celek after week 3, currently have Keller & Hernandez

QB: Drafted Schaub w/ Palmer as backup. Got sick of Palmer and dropped him for Hasselbeck.

Qb - Ben...waiting / holding...Schaub #1
I wasn't figuring on suspensions can't think of many QBs that have been but...may I ask why? I'd wait for Brady or Manning etc but Big Ben doesn't seem of high enough FF points to wait for with Schaub already on a roster. Is it a deep league? And thank you for the replies so far, thanks alot

Redraft, PPR

Drafted Cooley as my backup TE and yes he's started and is still on my roster (drafted Owen Daniels as TE1).

Didn't draft a second kicker (G. Hartley)

Drafted Carson Palmer as my backup QB, he's still rostered, and has started (over Flacco as QB1)

Sure, there were solid contributors drafted when I picked Palmer that none of us saw coming (Hillis).

14-team redraft, non-PPR, 15 rounds:

Aaron Hernandez, 15th round, still on roster, haven't started him over Zach Miller

I never draft a 2nd kicker; took Buehler in the 14th, just cut him for Matt Bryant

Big Ben, 10th round, still on roster, Schaub's back-up

Other league, 14-team redraft, PPR, 15 rounds:

Winslow, 11th round, still on roster, haven't started him over Finley

I never draft a 2nd kicker; took Cundiff in the 15th, just cut him for Nick Folk

Big Ben, 10th round, still on roster, Matt Ryan's back-up, expecting big things in Week 5

I don't really see where anyone drafted a player that valuable to their team at RB or WR after the 10th round in either league. I mean, maybe Kevin Walter, who went after the 10th in both leagues? Peyton Hillis and Roy Williams, who went undrafted in the first, both went late in the 2nd league. Not a lot of gems in there so far. Is that what you're looking for?

In my 12 team league:

I drafted Greshan as my 2nd Te. Havent used him yet. It was between him and Hernandez, Hernandez is looking pretty strong right now. Z Miller is my #1 TE. I didnt draft a 2nd kicker, I have Kaeding and will worry about it at the bye. I didnt draft a 2nd QB, I picked up Gerrard after week 2 and dropped him for Hasselbeck this week. Stafford is out there And I my get him. They both have a nice matchup for Rogers bye. I didnt draft a 2nd defense either but i am sitting on Falcons and Bears right now.

In my 14 team league:

MCNabb, Palmer. Palmer was suppose to be #1 but... I have Hasselbeck as my 3rd. I will play matchups. Maybe Hasselbeck this week, although for now McNabb is in there. The only QBs on waiver are temps and displaced starters. We do not start TEs, they are included with WRs. Only one kicker, Folk, I could ahve upgraded but slept on it. He has been OK.

3 leagues, I never never never never waste a roster spot on a backup TE or Kicker.

Back up QB's:

League 1) Flacco - hasn't started, on trading block because I have Schaub and picked up Vick. I don't usually carry 3 QB's, but very deep rosters (18)

League 2)Stafford - hasn't started, I have an IR spot for injured players, will probably cut him when he comes back because I have Romo and picked up Vick.

League 3)Stafford - started him in week 1, cut him, Have Flacco and picked up Vick

Yes, I picked up Vick in all 3 of my leagues. Looks to be working out pretty good so far.

FWIW, Roethlisberger was QB3 in PPG last season behind only Rodgers and Brees.

league 1 Mcnabb / cutler - Started McNabb week 3

League 2 Freeman-Bradford / Manning - not started

league 3 Garrard / Schaub - not played

league 4 Schaub / Orton - not played

league 5 E. Manning / Rivers - not played

league 6 McNabb / Romo - not played

league 7 Henne / Brees - not played

league 8 Henne / Cutler - not played

league 9 Freeman / Brady - not played

league 10 McNabb / E. Manning - McNabb played week 2 and 3

league 11 Henne / Schaub - has not played

league 12 Freeman / Schaub - has not played

I have D. Clark / Gonzo / Z. Miller as my 2nd te in a couple leagues where we can start 2 to Gates - I don't really consider Clark / Gonzo / Miller a backup since he was drafted for the flex spot but he is my TE 2.

Drafted Olsen / H. Miller - Played Olsen the first 3 waiting for Ben to come back to plug in Miller.

I don't draft 2nd QBs, TEs, or Ks in standard formats with 5-6 bench spots.

TE/K, I'd rather stock up on RBs and a couple WRs (positions where injuries and fliers regularly change the course of seasons).

QB, I usually target a starting QB that I believe to be top 8ish with upside for more. Sometimes I'll take a 2nd QB if a reliable mid-ranked one (like Eli, Ben this year) falls to the late rounds, but otherwise I'll just take my chances with respect to injuries and the waiver wire, if necessary. If my starter goes down, I don't think Stafford is going to save my season, no matter how much the "draft experts" love his upside. I'd rather bet against injuries to my starter and take a RB/WR. This year I have Rivers/Vick (WW pickup)

2nd TE: Tony Gonzalez in one league (traded for Finley), Davis in the other, both have started(but its a two TE league)

2nd K: DOES NOT COMPUTE

2nd QB: Flacco (Brady #1, traded flacco for Vick after week 1) Vick started when Brady played NY

Who did you draft as your 2nd TE? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet?

-Carlson, No, No

Who did you draft as your 2nd K? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet?

-LOL

-Stafford, no, no

-Nope... not really... the one player I see that I wish I would've grabbed is Orton. It's mostly defenses, kickers, TE2s and QB2s... sprinkled w/ a Slaton. Julius Jones, Larry Johnson 'n sich.

Who did you draft as your 2nd TE? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet? none

Who did you draft as your 2nd K? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet? none

Who did you draft as your 2nd QB? Is he on your roster still? Has he started yet? matt ryan, still on team, has not started - backing up vick (who i got in trade)

Dynasty league, but it's the first season -

- No second kicker drafted. I'll pick one up as needed.

- #2 QB = Chad Henne (Brees is my starter). #3 QB is Max Hall

- #2 TE = Fasano. I just missed Dustin Keller, so took Fasano because I predicted big things for Miami's offense. Even though Fasano has a rep as a blocking TE, he had great hands at Notre Dame so I thought he'd emerge in the right situation.

All of them are still on my team, though I'd probably start Todd Heap or Pettigrew over Fasano at this point.

#2 TE - None drafted (Starter was Heath Miller, and I've picked up Ben Watson for a week or two until Big Ben returns)

#2 K - None drafted (I drafted Nick Folk and dropped him for Neil Rackers before the season)

#3 QB - Kyle Orton (Drafted Eli as my starter. Orton is now my #1 guy, and I've started him 2 weeks out of 3)

I don't draft a backup TE, have Finley.

I drafted Henne still on my roster, would be starting over Kolb if I hadn't managed to get Vick. Potential drop after Philly's bye unless he continues to play like last week. Then I can play matchups.

Drafted Buehler but no #2 K, that's insane. Buehler just cut for Matt Bryant because he's on bye. Bryant will most likely get cut on his bye for a different WW K.

QB - Matt Ryan, 10th round (got Eli in the 7th) - still on roster

TE - Hernandez, last round (Finley is my starter) - still on roster

No backup K (took Gostkowski in second-to-last round)

qb- Henne my backup to Cutler

te- did not draft a backup. Drafted Zach Miller (Oak). Picked up Keller last Thursday and started him

k- no backup. Robbie Gould

Hernandez (last round), No second kicker, Henne. Neither has started - no need yet. Released Henne due to a rash of RB injuries.

Scheffler. No. No.

Prater. Yes. No.

Freeman. Yes. No.

When you drafted any of the above, was there a RB or WR drafted by someone else in your league that is currently valuable to his FF team?

Certainly. It was an auction, though. The league requires each team to roster a minimum of 2 QB, 2 TE and 2 PK, so I had no choice but to grab bodies.

If you're trying to wrap your head around whether it's wise to draft a second QB, PK or TE in leagues that do not require you to do so, you're likely going to find that it's not very wise. All available roster spots are best suited with RB and WR fliers, and then sort it all out on the wire, after the flier-class shakes out in the first few weeks.

in the footballguys championship, ppr, 2flex, 1.5ppr te, i drafted and missed on quite a few tes so i'll skip that.

k, none

eli qb1, orton qb2 started orton twice

qb1 romo qb2 orton, going with orton toomorrow

qb1 ryan qb2 mcnabb. started mcnabb week2

qb1 rivers no qb2 picked up sanchez

TE - this is the only one of these three where I would normally draft a second player IF I could flex them or had a one with an early byeWCOFF1 - Rob Gronkowski; not still on roster nor would have played since TE1 is FinleyWCOFF2 - Fred Davis; not still on roster because I needed the slot because of injuries and have Zach Miller (wk10 bye)NFFC Online - Heath Miller; still on roster; will be playing week 8 for Gonzo and possible flex other weeks with Roethlisberger backKicker - seriously? not happeningQB - The roster spots are SOOOOO valuable, that I wouldn't draft a second Unless I was drafting a pair where I was planning on playig matchups WCOFF1 - Stafford & Roethlisberger for obvious reasons; Stafford dropped due to injury (for Orton)WCOFF2 - no backup drafted (Rivers has a week 10 bye so no reason to hurry)NFFC Online - Stafford and Eli; both still on rosterWere there RB or WR available - sure but I don't view that any of the players I drafted as a backup cost me more than I gained in value

Qb - Ben...waiting / holding...Schaub #1

To me he has the upside to keep around for my bye week, hes better than the garbage on the WW if Schaub gets hurt, and possible trade value. QB is the highest scoring position in our league I want to make sure I have a serviceable one. Like buying insurance. I got him very late in the draft, like 9th round. Like SSOG said he was a top FF scorer last year.....I didnt have to waste a high pick, but I have a high value QB on my bench.

The last point is fairly common here in this thread, little surprised how common.12 leagues...wow. So aside from that you're a Henne fan (maybe just per ADP) do you feel like you shouldn't have drafted a backup QB?

Roster limits of course limit some.yes that's exactly what I found out which you're right it wasn't that surprising.Still, note how many do draft them.I was a bit surprised how many "hits" there were if you went with all RB or all WR or something like 5 RB 1 WR for this "flyer section" of the draft. (like that term)It also gave me the opportunity to piece together the often used phrase (which is off a smidge and just a general guess of a number) that 64 QBs start each season on average. I found it more likely that an NFL backup QB starts for your FF team than a teams drafted FF backup QB. IE Suppose you're waiting for a bye and Garrard gets hurt so he can't cover it but some NFL backup like Max Hall does cover it.Although here I noticed Eli as a common backup. Eli who hasn't missed a start since sharing time with Kurt as a rookie. (I'm not 100% if he did then or not) He's as dependable as can be. I'm curious if that dependability was the reason for so many to draft him.I can't really recall a QB (other than Vick) getting suspended, but that's an obvious monkey wrench here with Ben and with Miller. Guys that were fortunate to get a gem as a backup...well they're just fortunate like Cooley backing up Clark or somesuch. Predraft I would not consider Cooley a backup TE by any stretch. And yes people draft backup Ks, no I don't know why. I agree with the sentiment in this thread.

QB-Henne, dropped and picked up Hasselbeck after week 1...won't start until Matt Ryan's bye

TE, PK-none selected as backups

Disagreed. It's true that reserve QBs/TEs/PKs drafted late generally don't ever see the starting lineup or even last a couple of weeks into the season... but the exact same thing is true of the WRs and RBs being drafted in those rounds, too. The lesson isn't "2nd QBs and TEs and PKs suck", it's "players drafted in the last 4 rounds suck".In my league in the FBGs survivor contest, the RBs and WRs that got drafted in the 18th round or later were Brian Robiskie, Kevin Faulk, Brian Hartline, Roy Williams, Jordy Nelson, Brandon Tate, Malcolm Kelly, Jordan Shipley, Arrelious Benn, Brandon Jackson, Antonio Bryant, Marshawn Lynch, Kevin Smith, Toby Gerhart, Kareem Huggins, Deion Branch, Jason Avant, Earl Bennett, Sammie Stroughter, Leron McClain, Jonathan Dwyer, Brian Westbrook, Donte Stallworth, Emmanuel Sanders, Anthony Dixon, Leonard Weaver, Jerious Norwood, James Starks, Julius Jones, Rashad Jennings, and Justin Gage. Take a look at that list of names and try to tell me that owners are better off rostering garbage like that than they are taking a chance on a Josh Freeman or a Kyle Orton or an Aaron Hernandez. Once you get to the end of the draft, everyone is garbage. Generally I find a 2nd QB is more likely to crack my starting lineup than a 9th WR.

your post limits this to 18th round or later. We were discussing 6 rounds (or more). There are a few decent picks (even a starting RB) in there but a predominant number of 'well you got exactly what everyone figured you'd get' type picks.

Surely you are not normally supportive of drafting a FB to be your FF RB or drafting a guy that doesn't play in the NFL or a fourth string NFL RB in hopes he'll start for your FF team or a guy that isn't even healthy and expected to play the first few weeks.

I love risky picks and that these are the 18th round or later, kudos to some of these guys for trying but if that's all you're going to bring (without 6 rounds total) then it's skewing things and of course we can all "beat down" picks at the very end of the draft.

Didn't draft a 2nd TE (later picked up Aaron Hernandez on waivers)

Didn't draft a 2nd K

Drafted Alex Smith as 2nd qb (dropped him after first week and grabbed kyle orton off waivers)

Those guys came from the last 4 rounds. If you want to see the last 6 rounds, the following RBs and WRs were drafted in the 16th or 17th: Bernard Berrian, Dexter McCluster, Derrick Ward, Golden Tate, Julian Edelman, Josh Cribbs, Montario Hardesty, Tashard Choice, Jason Snelling, Javon Ringer, Demaryius Thomas, Early Doucet, Josh Morgan, and Brandon LaFell. With the exception of Snelling (who is a backup that happened to win the injury lottery), that's another heaping pile of garbage. And it's worth pointing out that this came in an incredibly QB-heavy league (it's a superflex league, so you can start up to 2 QBs a week), so the RBs and WRs available in round 16 or later are better than they'd be in a more standard league.I don't care what position you're drafting in the last 6 rounds of your draft, unless you're playing in a shallow league, odds are fantastic that you're going to walk away with a massive heaping pile of garbage.
