Who gets Steve Smith's Production while out? (1 Viewer)

ASSUMING- Hackett actually gets healthy and starts opposite Muhammad, who is going to get the bulk of targets in that offense between the two while Smith is out? I guess that person would be the "handcuff" to Smith? It seems to me Muhammad has the history with Delhomme and knows the offense, but may be slowing down, while Hackett has youth and potential on his side....

I've been trying to figure this out myself for both Smith and Brandon Marshall. Both will miss the first two games, so who to draft to cover their absence? There's no need to cover with a receiver from just Carolina or Denver. It will have to be someone you can get at least a few rounds later, so I'm looking at guys like Galloway. Any other receivers out there that have good matchups the first two weeks that can cover for either of these two players?

That's true, you don't have to cover with their replacements, but I think at the point in the draft where I would be willing to draft a WR just to have for a couple of games, the Galloways, etc will be gone...

Carolina and Denver still need to throw to someone though, and I bet some WR on those teams are going to have a good 1st couple of games... we just need to figure out who?

With Hackett nursing that sore toe and the past chemistry between former teammates, I am led to believe that Mushin might be the beneficiary of a few extra targets in the first two weeks.

Depending on Reggie Brown's injury status, I'm targetting DeSean Jackson as a late round flyer in a possible flex start in the early weeks. I love the way the kid has looked early on.

FWIW, for the Broncos...I expect Scheffler to put up very respectable, WR2-esque numbers in Marshall's absence.

This is my thinking as well. Both teams don't have the best of matchups the first two weeks, so I'm looking elsewhere if I draft Smith or Marshall. Looking at the schedule for guys to be had later to fill in the first two weeks I come up with Galloway, Hines Ward, the Philly receivers or Coles as receivers that can be had in rounds 6-9 that can fill in.

Isn't Muhammad currently the normal starter with Smith? First off, I think Muhammad is starting more for his edge over Hackett in run blocking than for his edge as a receiving option; Hackett is probably a better receiving option at this point.

Secondly, while Smith will be targeted all over the field normally, I'd expect him to get many more deep looks than Muhammad, who should be more of a possession receiver. I suspect if healthy Hackett will get those deep looks with Smith out. Muhammad may get a bit more of the shorter stuff in those two games, but I'd expect Hackett to essentially get Smith's production if he can be healthy enough to stay on the field and perform well enough to stay out there (e.g., doesn't drop a passes early in game 1).

If Hackett performs well in those games, it could set him up for some nice value for the season, as they may be willing to go to him a bit more than they would have once Smith is back.

Why not use your top bench WR? Isn't that why you draft depth at the position? I don't think there is any reason to reach for one of the Carolina or Denver WRs unless you already have him on your radar.

Moose can be had for next to nothing and was the #1 overall fantasy receiver the last year he was in Carolina with Delhomme. I can't think of a safer, cheaper solution to having Smith on your roster. I actually drafted Smith in one league and picked up Moose off the waivers after he got supended.

I do agree, however, that Moose will be much more effective with Smith on the field, but he should hold his own in the meantime and Delhomme loves him.

My bet is on Dwayne Jarrett finally stepping up and making his presence known. O.K. this is wishful thinking but one can hope.

Muhammed is reportedly looking as good or better than when he left for Chicago. He's dinged up now but it's like he never left according to reports out of camp.

Delhomme's comfort level with Muhammad makes him a good bet to be the top target in Smith's absence. Couple that with Hackett's recent arrival with this offense and injury (as well as Jarrett's injury), and I have to agree with the majority here.

Mushy hands down. He's looked good. The quote about Chicago from him was funny. "That's where receivers go to die"

those that brought up Denver, I think Eddie Royal will be the man

This coming from a Moose hater...

The Moose will be huge stud this year. Pull the trigger early if you want to hang a trophy on your wall this year.

Facing the San Diego D wk1, you may want to look elsewhere, however, three reasons to pick up mushin: you won't find a better value in your auction/draft, he should score at least once if not twice in the revenge game against da bears wk2, and as mentioned above, last time he caught the ball from jake he was #1 wr, so even half that production that puts him at 47/700/8, not a bad handcuff/bye wk filler.

As an added extra bonus I just found out I'm going to the Panthers-Redskins exhibition game on Sautrday. I'll report back as I suspect this will be the game to see how it's going to go. Any other players to highlight while I'm there?

Delhomme, Williams, StewartI think Muhammad can have a real nice year for the Pantehrs this year. I don't see any reason 1000 and 7 is out of the question.
