Who is benching Parker this week? (1 Viewer)

I am strongly considering putting Parker on the bench this week and playing Addai over him. Ray Lewis is back and I think Baltimore will dare the Steelers to throw. Addai should get good yardage as I expect the Colts to take an early lead. Thoughts? I know Parker has been big lately but noone runs on Baltimore. Who else is considering benching him?

I could appreciate the concern, but the fact of the matter is I am not benching a guy who just needs a crease and he is off to the races. Parker is a special player and if no one see's that by now then they are blind. He can run on anyone IMO. Also he is involved in the passing game this season and has proved to be a great all purpose back. Top 5 in PPR HP scoring and look at his TD totals. I can't think of a reason to bench him. Sometimes you can out think yourself. When it comes to front line players like Parker you play him every week. The great players find a way most of the time. I rather roll with Parker than 95% of the backs in the league.

I thought about benching him last week, but I am glad I didn't.

Hell, the Titans ran against the Ravens.

Yes Lewis is playing, but FWP can get out side of him and it will be a long day.

FWP is a stud. Forget the matchup and start your stud. I'm not a Parker owner, but, think it's a big mistake to bench this guy.

GL all...

My option is Parker, Addai or D. Williams. I'm going with Addai and must choose between Parker and Williams. With Foster out, this could be the game that Williams takes over and never looks back. Hate to sit Parker though.

I don't agree that the Ravens defense is overrated. With Ben playing the way he is and with Ward hurt I really think the Ravens are going to gear up to stop the run.

Playing Parker over Dunn. Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the Ravens run D hasn't seemed to be quite as good with Ray Lewis out. Yes Lewis is back, but still hurting and will be less effective than usual. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Roethlisberger doesn't throw the game away early and kill FWPs opportunity to run.

Don't do it.

LT2 and Gore.
Ditto, we have the same backs. I just can't bench Gore again, especially against the Rams. You'd think I would have learned by now with FWP burning me the other two times I benched him, but oh well.

Great. So now Foster is out which means I have to decide between C. Taylor, Parker, Alexander, Williams, or Addai. I am leaning towards Taylor and either Addai or Parker.

just looked quickly at last 4 weeks only(since Gore bye). On my team, last week is the only of those where Gore outscored Parker. Obviously we are all hoping today is the 2nd. :)

I benched FWP @ SD the same week Travis Henry played Houston. Started Henry (he had 2 consec. 100-yd games at that point) and he got like 27 yards. Parker got 80+ and a TD.

This week: Parker at BAL or Henry vs. injured NYG defensive line.

Going with FWP this week

started LJ and MBIII for turkey day...have a flex spot open for today: FWP or DWill???

tough choice...bench your stud against a good D getting their best run defender back? or bench the young guy who is getting his chance against a poor run D?

i am starting chester taylor over FWP...... :bag: the match up is better.....keep it simple.
Keep it simple? Keeping it simple is starting the far superior player. Matchups should be used when deciding between two marginal options. Deciding between a marginal option and a guy who has been a stud this year is a no-brainer. Great players have gone against weak defenses and come away with 70 yards and no tds. And mediocre players have gone against stout run D's and come away with 150 and 2 tds. The point is you never can tell with 100% certainty. The solution: play the stud all 16 weeks and get ALL of his stud performances instead of picking and choosing and missing out on some of them. It's like blackjack and staying with 16 against a 10. You're in a tough spot. (Parker vs. Balt) But you have to hit. You can't pick and choose when to guess that you'll bust. A person who sits on 16 against a 10 will win maybe 20 hands out of 100. But a person who hits on 16 vs 10 will draw a hand once in a while and maybe increase his win total to 35 hands out of 100. This isn't a guessing game. Go with the clearly better player. This thread is similar to the "who are you benching Ronnie Brown against Chicago for" thread. Brown wound up with 180 total yards. And Parker is a better player than Brown. So after this long spiel, Parker will probably get shut down and score 5 fantasy points. But guess what, a mediocre player is probably even more likely to put up a 5 spot against a poor defense.

ravens Def = overrated.agree with above, never bench your studs.
Wow could you be any more wrong?? The Ravens D is not over-rated.. They destroyed Pitt.. I think if I were you I would stick to the name in your handle.. :)

I am glad I listened to my gut feeling. I am sorry but this game is all about matchups, and that fact continues to prove itself over and over again. There are obviously certain exceptions (Manning, LT, LJ, McNabb, etc.) but they are few and far between. To just blindly start players without taking matchups is ridiculous. Ravens defense overrated, right.

Is it even worth responding? You guys have completely forgotten about the many more times people bench their studs in favor of a middle tier player with a great matchup and get burned. I wonder how those who started Charlie Frye this week are faring? I said myself that Parker could get shut down but so it goes for all players once in awhile.

I struggled with this decision all week and left Parker in. I would have been playing either Ahman Green in the two leagues I had him in or Willis Mcgahee (wasn't sure about the injury concerns). Guess I will know tomorrow night for sure if I made the right decision about Parker...I am pretty sure that Green can come up with 3.7 pts though.

I know you always play your studs, but I always think there is that one game you know the defense is just too good and you are going to get stuck. Your Gut says bench him. This was the week for the Steelers running game.

When you can only start 2 out of your 3 studs, you obviously must "bench your stud". LT2 (the studliest of them all) and Gore did just fine with their better matchups. It was an easy choice with the Ravens D in the picture. While lots of crazy things happen in this league, I would have been shocked if I was wrong on this one (barring injuries). FWP will have his matchups day over Gore too, but not today.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Better defenses than the Ravens have been shredded by lesser backs. One time it turns out benching a stud was wise and people forget about all the other times they've been burned benching the better player.
