I wouldn't underrate practice squad guys. A couple who came through the Saints' practice squad system were Chris Ivory and Khiry Robinson.

I think I disagree he has to catch passes to be relevant. Eddie Lacy isn't a great pass catcher, and he was relevant. Montgomery is monopolizing all the third down and passing game usage out of the backfield IMO, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for a guy to be the first and second down back. Pass pro may be a legitimate question, but I think you guys are grossly overrating Knile Davis. The guy isn't that good. Can this guy catch passes is the big question. To take over in GB, you will need to catch passes. If he get's no recs he won't have the kind of value to crack my lineup, so no point, really. I know Knile Davis can catch. In PPR Ty might be the play, but I am pretty sure Ty Montgomery won't be toting the rock between the tackles on a regular basis so his upside is limited to Riddick style of play. Knile can do it all adequately. 3 headed monster is worthless. We are going to learn a lot tonight.
yeah he might have "value" as a RB3 or maybe slightly higher, but if he can't catch passes he won't have homerun potential on this team that likes to throw on 1st and goal from the 1.I think I disagree he has to catch passes to be relevant. Jackson may not be any good either, but he's not been proven to suck yet.
So Lacy was an RB3?yeah he might have "value" as a RB3 or maybe slightly higher, but if he can't catch passes he won't have homerun potential on this team that likes to throw on 1st and goal from the 1.
in my PPR league, Lacy was ranked RB #41 in ppg and #39 in total points. What would you call him? RB4?So Lacy was an RB3?

I remember this as a negative for him when it was just him and Charles in KCKnile Davis is terrible in pass pro.
That's good to know. How is Don?Knile Davis is terrible in pass pro.
Interesting I would have thought this was paid or else now I'm wondering why I'm paying...Well, looks like Matt Waldman (who does know what he's seeing on film) sees some positives in Jackson's game: http://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/article.php?article=gutcheck385&utm_content=bufferafa37&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
(I accessed for free from Twitter, so I assume it's OK to add here -- I'm not an FBG subscriber, so not trying to give away what others pay for... just sharing what I found).Quickness and balance are positives of his game. He has the burst to turn the corner and turn a good crease into a run that threatens a secondary. He has a functional stiff arm that works best to ward off an angle as he bursts outside. Although he can get into the secondary, he's unlikely to outrun most NFL corners and free safeties with a good angle of pursuit despite a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.
I like that he'll stick his nose into a pile and push through a crease in short-yardage situations and there's some balance to work through contact to his lower legs. Although I don't have quick access to tape that I can produce in short order, what first caught my eye about him was how physical he was for his 208-pound frame.
In these respects, Jackson's burst, frame, and balance bear some similarities to Duke Johnson but he could be a more rugged player. But don't get carried away with this stylistic comparison. I haven't seen enough of Johnson's decision-making and third-down tools.
Also this:DON JACKSON, RB, Nevada
Basics: From Sacramento, Calif. Redshirted and also played one season at a junior college (Iowa Western). Two-year starter with 528 carries for 2,371 yards (4.5) and 19 TDs. Also caught 23 passes for 269 and two TDs. Visited Green Bay. Spent three months this winter training at NX Level in Waukesha. Signing bonus of $5,000.
Measurables: 5-10, 212, 4.49. Vertical jump of 38½, broad jump of 9-10, 15 reps on the bench and Wonderlic of 12. Arms were short at 29¾, hands were 9 3/8.
Jackson: "Honestly, when I met that staff and everybody in personnel up there, I felt like they were great, genuine people. I just really fell in love with the place....I wouldn't label myself as one kind of back. I just try my best to run as violently as I can. I pride myself on running angry, running violent and also running smart. We were a downhill offense. I just have to create more ways to make guys miss."
AFC scout: "Good size. Kind of a tough, between-the-tackles runner. Had a good workout. He's a good, solid, college running back. I don't think he played a lot of special teams there because he was the guy. He's a top free agent. He has a shot."
UNDRAFTED TRIO WORTH GOOD LOOK - GREEN BAY IS A COVETED LOCATION FOR FREE AGENT RUNNING BACKS, CORNERS
The Green Bay Packers didn’t select a cornerback or running back in this year’s NFL draft.
That alone had to make them attractive to undrafted players at those positions. And after I talked to a couple of scouts for other NFL teams about the Packers’ undrafted rookie class, it’s no coincidence that two of their most well-thought-of undrafted rookies play running back and cornerback.
The Packers just completed their rookie orientation camp this weekend, and now their rookies will join the rest of the team beginning Monday for the remainder of the offseason workout program. Here are three of their undrafted rookies to keep an eye on come training camp:
Don Jackson, RB, 5-10, 205, Nevada: ...
In his last two years at Nevada, Jackson rushed for 2,036 yards and a 4.6-yard average. At his campus pro day he ran the 40 in 4.50 seconds and had a 38 1/2-inch vertical jump. Crockett is a little bigger (5-11 3/4, 217), not quite as fast (4.57 40) and had a slightly better vertical (40 inches).
Jackson was an every-down back at Nevada but didn't catch the ball much - 20 receptions in two seasons as the starter. At the one rookie-camp practice open to reporters, he effortlessly caught the one pass I saw thrown to him, but that's not much to go on.
His primary trait is his aggressive approach to running.
"I think I can bring a violent run style," he said, "and I think I can handle myself in pass protection and just in the run game pretty well."
Jackson also has developed character qualities of resilience and perseverance that could help him in the NFL. He comes from impoverished south Sacramento in California, and after spending much of his youth getting in and out of trouble and being forced from one school to the next, he found himself and dedicated his life to football.
...
excellent post. Thanks for digging all that up. Gives a lot more background and a little more confidence in his game. Pass pro could help keep him on the field if what he says is true and he can "handle himself". Also appears he doesn't have a set of stone hands at least.Interesting I would have thought this was paid or else now I'm wondering why I'm paying...
I notice FBG doesn't even have a player page to link to. It's really funny how even a Waldman does not have enough to work off of.
DXJ is 5'10", 208. Duke is 5'9" 210. I guess I see that in terms of size.
Some other notes:
Jax was released by the Pack in July. Looks like he was brought back just Sept. 8th.
I found this in the MJS:
Also this:
This plus his measurables and highlight reel have me very curious to watch him play tonight. Dude has to be hungry and looking to eat.His primary trait is his aggressive approach to running.

Didn't say that. I was saying that I wouldn't risk starting JACKSON without ever having seen the touch distribution. Acting like there's no chance that a 4 year vet can't get carries over an UDFA with 0 carries is not smart. I have McCoy and Gillislee and there is no way I'm starting Jackson over waiting to see what happens with McCoy or playing Bernard against the Browns. I wouldn't risk losing due to 0 carries for Jacskon, which is a possibility.Really? You think Davis would lead them tonight, he can't have had more than one or two practices?
Jackson will get carries tonight if nothing else for GB to see what they have in him. That said I wouldn't start Jackson or Davis tonight unless in pure desperation mode because of the unknowns. Davis will be a better start next week unless Jackson pulls off a hell of a game tonight. In PPR Montgomery is an ok flex play but there may still be better options out there. Cobb is a must start.Didn't say that. I was saying that I wouldn't risk starting JACKSON without ever having seen the touch distribution. Jackson, on the other hand, should be able to step in right away and run anything the Packers have in their offense.
The Packers also plan on using Montgomery a fair amount in the backfield. Last week against Dallas, Montgomery played 35 snaps, including 22 at the running back position, and led all receivers with 10 catches for 98 yards. He only had six yards on two carries, however.
Montgomery, who played running back in high school, said he has been working for the past couple of weeks to get the running back position down. He fumbled twice against the Cowboys, one of which was lost, and said he has to get used to running in traffic more
Well I'm definitely going to avoid until I see it play out. But I'd bet on the guy that was with the team in training camp to see a lot more work than the guy acquired 3 days ago. Davis is way more likely to see zero carries here.Didn't say that. I was saying that I wouldn't risk starting JACKSON without ever having seen the touch distribution. Agreed. That's basically my earlier point. You've got a 4 year vet barely in GB for a few days versus a practice squad guy. I picked up Davis in one league and Jackson in another, but there is no chance I'm starting either of them yet. Both could easily get all the work or none of it. I don't care what any reporter says, one missed block or fumble and that guy who's supposed to get all the carries is on the shelf.Well I'm definitely going to avoid until I see it play out. Lol - sleeperbot got scooped by pretty much every source - the NFL network said he was starting at like 1:00Per sleeperbot Alert he's getting the start tonight wonder what % of carries he sees
You could always check the "who is the GB starting RB" topic?Sorry it's an app I use, just saw the alert pop up 16 minutes ago. Being at work I can't check NFL network or Roto internet is restricted
9' tall & benched 600 lbs 47 times at the combine. Ran a 4.2 40.I heard that Donny Jax has slain a dragon before and shoots lightning bolts from his ####. Chicago bears should be no problem for him tonight!
Lol - yeah; I thought the same.He showed a lot of burst on those play action passes.![]()

Some guy that will spend the rest of his life in the breakroom of Walmart telling the story about that one time he took a handoff from Aaron Rodgers and got blasted at the line of scrimmage, to anyone that will listen.Who is Don Jackson?
