Calvin Freaking Johnson. I'm not kidding if all of the WR's had the same QB, team, and role Megatron would rule. He might let Rice carry his shoulder pads but that's about it. :P

Hutson was the best WR of all time

Why?

What would of Jerry's stats been if he also played DB the whole game?

And was the teams kicker

Because that is what Hutson did, and he still put up all those numbers as WR

Think about - never off the field, running every play - offense, defense, special teams.

Jerry Rice was a stud. Don Hutson was superman.

And while being the dominant receiver of all time, still holding NFL records, Don also lead the league several seasons in defensive and kicking categories.

Gotta go with Moss. That guy has been a matchup nightmare his entire career. Best Rookie WR season ever, arguably the best WR season ever...
Which one of his seasons was "arguably the best WR season ever"?
Prolly the one where he set the record for most receiving TDs by a WR? :D
Moss 2007: 16 games, 98 receptions, 1493 yards, 23 TDsMoss 2003: 16 games, 111 receptions, 1632 yards, 17 TDs

Hutson 1942: 11 games, 74 receptions, 1211 yards, 17 TDs

Hutson's 1942 season projected to 16 games: 107 receptions, 1761 yards, 25 TDs...and it was 19-freaking-42, so adjusting for era only helps Hutson's case. 2nd place in receptions that year had 27 receptions.
Moss through 11 games in 0772 receptions, 1095, 16 TDs.

Some may say that keeping the pace through 5 more games would be an achievement. Projecting someone to do it is alot harder than actually staying healthy and doing it.

I do agree on your comments about the era.

The biggest flaw in this logic is that the DBs Hutson was going against were also on the field for every snap. He might have been more tired because he had to play every snap, but he was going against defenders who were also more tired because they played every snap. In the end, the two cancel each other out.

Can you imagine what Hutson would do with:1. Nice sticky gloves

2. Modern Training and Health advances

3. Focus on only offense, not being one of the better/best DBs of his time

4. Not having to get manhandled on every play

5. Have a ball far more suited to passing and catching
i would imagine hutson never even sniffs the pros if he has to play against real professional athletes rather than guys who load the docks in the offseason are routinely beaten by college teams. oh ya, and if he had to play against black athletes too.

If Wes Welker can catch more balls then anyone in comparison with his contemporaries... if Steve Largent can be the all time leading receiver when he retired... Hutson could also be "modernized" and still smoke everyone around him.
