Who is Thinking of Benching Matthew Stafford? (1 Viewer)

Many pre-season rankings had Stafford as QB4 and last of tier 1 qbs. He was thought to be an every week start in fantasy line ups. Now as we head into week 7 some are looking at the Bears and thinking of sitting him. Interceptions and lack of TD passes the problem for most. If you bench him, who are you replacing him with in your lineup?

Thinking of benching him for Andy Dalton at home in front of national audience on Football Night in America vs. depleted and old Steelers defense. I see AJ Green owning the Steelers D.

The same prospects are not there for the Lions, Stafford, and Megatron as the head to Chicago.

If I had Dalton, which I do along with Stafford in my secondary league, I'd go Dalton over Stafford.

Well, you guys can all bench him but this is the week he breaks out of his funk with 3 TD passes. It is easy to say bench him, and all the experts are doing so, but this guy is way overdue for a big game.

Strangely, watching Stafford, he seems to start slow or poorly and finish more strongly. In the Calvin TD thread, it's been posted that Stafford is off on footwork, his decision making is poor, the run game problems are contributing, and defenses are taking away Megatron to force other players like Titus to best them. All are leading to lower numbers for Stafford.

So what are the 2 or 3 to things that Stafford and the offense must do now to turn it around? Can they? Is it execution or simply the coverage schemes thus fart to stop them have been too much for them to overcome?

he's playing (according to FO) against by far the best pass defense in the NFL. Add that to the fact that Stafford isn't playing well in the first place, I don't see how you play him this week.

I'm in a 6 pt. passing league and the guy I'm facing this week is benching Stafford for Andrew Luck against the Browns. Honestly, I can't blame him.

Strongly considering benching Stafford vs. CHI for Palmer vs JAGs. Pains me to do so but he's just been incredibly lackluster.

Just picked up Freeman off the waiver wire to start over Stafford. I've got MS in two of my three leagues, so this was a bit of a hedge.
I also grabbed Freeman of the WW , my other option is Ponder. Stafford is too risky against the Bears D today. So much for drafting Stafford in the 2nd for QB stability

Benched him for Luck in a standard 4 pt passing league. Plan on playing matchups from here on out unless he proves he's an every week autostart again.

Stafford is struggling with his passing mechanics this year:

Greg Cosell and Ron Jaworski observations on Matt Stafford

NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell opined that Matthew Stafford's mechanics have been "atrocious" this season.

ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski backed up the notion, explaining that Stafford's mechanics "seem to slip at times." Stafford has been overthrowing receivers regularly, with inconsistent footwork and release points. Cosell calls Stafford "a great arm talent capable of making phenomenal arm throws at any time." Stafford went through a similar mechanics-related funk at mid-season last year before closing with 370+ yards in five of his final six games. Oct 18 - 6:48 PM

Benching him for Cutler, but that's a pretty easy decision this week.
I respectfully disagree, nobody plays worse at night than Cutler. As a Bears fan, I don't know why this is, but it is.I expect stafford to have 280, 2 td, 1 int verses a very very over rated secondary (yes I said it, and I am a Bears fan). The Lions will go nowhere on the ground (not suprizing with Leslow as their back) and CJ will go off against Tillman.Book it!

Not really impressed by the passing offenses CHI has faced so far this year, Luck on his first game, Bradford, Romo, and Gabbert. Only good match up was Rodgers.

wasn't that a MNF game? Packers looked horrible in that one.

i've been saying this every freaking week. I have Dalton backing him up in two leagues and in all but one week have gone with Stafford - the one week I don't Dalton laid a turd...every other week Dalton has outperformed him. I'm splitting the difference today and going with dalton in one and stafford in the other - Dalton in the one i need a win more.

1st thursday night game, both teams looked terrible (as all teams do on thursday night football)

incorrect.

Going with Fitzpatrick. Stafford had a horrible game at Chi last year and I don't like the matchup this year at Chi on MNF with Chi coming off a bye week.

not sure what you are referring to, but the bears packers game was on a thursday, in fact the first thursday night football game, cause I was there (and it sucked)Not that it matters.

Good luck

This guy is ruining my year in half my leagues. Ugh, at least I've started benching him. How can anyone stink so bad for so long? Starting to look like Cutler Jr.

We'll see how this actually works out, but so far not to bad.
I would say it worked out great. Too bad I went the opposite direction and benched Freeman for Stafford... :wall:
Dam, sorry about that, truly I am here.. :(I just had no confidence against Chicago's Defense.(and had a hunch against the Saints Freeman would look good)Truthfully though Stafford did not look bad this game, all hisbuddy's at reciver did little to nothing to help him, includingJohnson, Stafford was a gamer to being knicked up an still gunning. The red zone fumbles by the RB's and the botched return put them inbad situations that even Detroits D playing hard couldn't pull um out.(could been even worse with Pettgrew's 2 fumbles out of bounds as well)Lions actually could of won that game, going in I'd gave them no chance.

I started him over Ponder and it worked out.

These week I'm going with Ponder over Stafford looking at the matchups. I hate playing matchups with my QBs, but that is what it has come to with Stafford.
