Who is your FAVORITE analyst? (1 Viewer)

criticizing is too easy . . . who is your favorite??

My vote goes to Hoge and Jaworski . . . NFL Matchup is the only show worth watching on ESPN (besides the games themselves) . . .

add: It's really a three way tie for me . . . I like Mayock as well . . .

Howie Long - he's played the game and yet is intelligent and articulate - a rare comination it seems.

Jaws :bowtie:

He catches things that I can't see on the TV myself and explains them in clear terms. This information is also applicable to the game and how it may or may not effect it moving forward. He just seems like a sharp guy who knows when to use his film breakdown insights, former player tidbits, and when to just go with the flow.

Al Michaels is still money as well. Many have given him credit over the years but it really is well deserved.

True

Ron Jaworski, Boomer Esiason, Mike Golic. I don't see enough of Aikman to really have a strong opinion. I don't watch a lot of full NFC games live during the two early Sunday games since the top AFC game is usually either the Patriots or another top team in the AFC, and switching back and forth makes it hard to tell who's really good and who gets irritating after a while.

Also, I watch so little ESPN now that I still enjoy Berman once in a while when he's on.

Watching the Browns local, i've been quite impressed with Bernie Kosar.......NOT!!!

Mike Mayok is the man...I heard him doing Vikings broadcast and he was very good.

A thousand times JAWS!!!Dude will tell you how the FB's first step caused the LB to do this which caused the safety to do that which frees up the skinny post. No one has ever come close to being a true analyst of the game. It's an amazing travesty that they put such a great FB mind in the booth with a complete talk show moron.

Long is good but he's not nearly as comprehensive as Jaws.

Mark Schlereth is my second favorite.

Buck and Aikman blow.

I like Aikman and Buck. They are the show IMO.
 Although I think they qualify more as broadcasters than analysts, no?As for analysts, I always liked this little guy named Andrew Siciliano who used to host a fantasy show on Fox Sports. I think he moved on to the NFL Network, but I never watch it (need to start - I'm sure I will once DTV carries the HD feed full-time), so I'm not sure.

Agree about Jaws, but disagree about anyone else not being a true analyst of the game. I thought Hank Stram did a very good job analyzing the game when he was teamed up with Jack Buck on the radio. And also agree about Buck/Aikman, though more because of Buck. Didn't that guy listen to his dad call a game?

I like most of the CBS guys....Tasker, Cross, Wilcotts.

I used to like Kevin Harlan as a PBP guys a lot, but Iain Eagle and especially Gus Johnson have risen on my charts...listening Gus call the Bills/Broncs game was awesome...he did a great job.

Tim Ryan... FIFTH analyst on FOX's pecking order.

It's a shame his name isn't recognizable enough to get him a sniff at being on the first two FOX teams.

He provides WAY more insight than Troy Aikman (# 1 team) and Moose Johnston (# 2 team) combined.

He's great when he's not overselling the moment. He does preseason Packer games and does a great job imo. Harlan's been paired with Rich Gannon during those telecasts.Gannon is better than most announcers out there and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he eventually is part of a #1 announcing crew.

Jaime Dukes...nah just playing

definitely Jaws, also like listening to Solomon Wilcotts (sp?) on nfl network

None of the TV guys. The local radio guys for most teams are better than anything on TV. Turn down the sound and turn on the radio. It's far better coverage(especially on monday nights). Sirius gives you the choice of either team's local broadcasters.

Michaels, Madden, Berman, Jaworski
Mike, Mike and Mike were better in their first (and perhaps only) game than the regular MNF crew will ever be. Not saying that they were great just better than the others. Caught them for a half until I went back to the radio.

What? Golic was decent but Ditka was too busy scratching himself and Greenberg was worse than horrible. If they want an ex-coach they should get **** Vermeil. That guy is money in the booth.

Jaws

Tom Jackson

Mark Schlereth

Huddled masses

(Don't get nfln  so I can't comment on wilcots, who seems to be getting a lot of love here)

I like Brian Baldinger a lot.. Does playbook on NFL Network which I think is one of the better shows when it comes to breaking down game tape.

Is it bad that I don't really care for any tv analyst?

I used to like Phil Simms, but he's become so heavy handed the last year or so. Aikman is ok I guess.

I thought we were talking about current or at least recent analysts. And besides, with replays and visuals, Jaws can analyze and relate things better than any radio broadcaster ever could

Not so. The radio guys (no matter what the sport) have always done the best job at calling the game and analyzing what's going on.

And yet they were still better than Mike, Tony and Jaws. Greeburg was calling his first NFL game. He at least got excited from time to time. Mikey T is terrible and he's been at it for a while. Give me the other guys any day. That broadcast was simple(not the overproduced garbage they give you with the regular crew. My rule of thum for anybody calling a game is for them to let the game be the show. Tony and those other clowns think it's all about them(no mailbag during that later game). MNF is produced(overly so) for the non football fan. When the ratings continue to plunge for MNF, they will replace the current crew with some other clowns. It will still be over produced and boring and the radio guys will still be calling a better game.

I couldn't DISagree more! Though Bernie will never be called eloquent, he is very insightful. I love what he brings!
