Who will be the Bengals starting running back in 2008? (1 Viewer)

So would it be Irons that would come in for 2008? someone else posted that ACL's take 2 yrs to heal... Does that knock Irons out of contention for 2008? Is that even true?
For a pro athlete, it usually takes 2 years to FULLY recover from ACL repair surgery, that being said some players can play well after one year. The fact that Irons tore his ACL in the pre-season, could mean that he could be productive in 2008, provided his rehab goes well. However, Deuce McAllister tore his ACL early in the season a couple years back and played well enough the following season. Unfortunately I can't think of many other RB's who tore ACL's and came back the following season.

QB's who recently tore ACL's and played the following season: Carson Palmer (tore his ACL towards the end of the season) played pretty well the following year after less than a full year to recover and McNabb, who the jury is still out on.

WR's who recently tore ACL's and played the following season: Javon Walker played well the year after tearing his ACL early in the season and Braylon Edwards began playing less than a year after tearing his ACL and managed to put a solid season together last year.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. It's hardly a big sample size, especially RB's, but players can be effective their first year back from ACL repair. Whether Irons can or will be, won't be known until training camp next year.
Edge and Jamal Lewis both had productive seasons the year after blowing a knee. They were below their usual stats but they did play and have productive seasons....

Edge wasn't really productive his first year back. He started off well but he faded badly. He was pretty much worthless in the second half of that season. He only scored 1 TD in his last 10 games, only had one 100-yard game in that span and was held under 65 yards five times. I had him that year and I couldn't give him away in the second half of the season.

If Irons was healthy I think it would've been a RBBC this season and I think he would've had a legitimate shot of vying for the starting role in 2008. But with him hurt it's an open race. Rudi will probably start the season as the top guy. Irons and Perry will be given a chance to earn playing time and force Rudi out before the 2009 season.
:goodposting: I think Rudi will go into 2008 as the starting RB, but I don't like his chances of coming out of 2008 as the starting RB. We'll see what Irons has by next pre-season, and I think he'll work his way into the mix as long as he's fully recovered. Perry is always wild card, but even on the off chance that he gets a significant chunk of the work, he's simply too injury-prone to keep value. And I think their coaching staff has just about written him off as a guy they can ever count on.
