Rodgers was in the lead after beating Brady head to head, but the loss this week knocked the Packers out of the division lead and possibly even the playoffs, while Rodgers' sterling td:int ratio took a hit as well with no touchdowns and two picks.

Watt is having another incredible season, but it's been 28 years since a defensive player won the mvp (Lawrence Taylor) and is only happened twice. Also making his candidacy more difficult is the Texans record. It's hard to hold it against him because of his position, but that's also exactly why his position rarely wins the mvp.

Manning was an early leader in the race, but the last few weeks have probably taken him out of the running as the broncos have been so run heavy.

Andrew luck hasn't been in the conversation much, but maybe he ought to be. His interceptions are a little high, but he's clearly the straw that stirs the Colts drink on an offense heavy team. And they're a division leader, albeit not a likely bye week contender.

Demarco Murray might have flirted with candidacy, but he's not going to break any records and his hand injury can't help. If the Cowboys make the playoffs, he might have some kind of shot, but not a great one.

Big ben maybe? He's putting up better stats than usual, but the steelers are still on the outside looking in at the division and may not even make the playoffs.

Is there someone else? Is one of these guys still a clear favorite? Or will the final two weeks decide it?

DeMarco Murray for me. Can't believe you think he doesn't have a great shot, regardless of his hand injury.

At this point, I think it is between Brady and Rodgers. If both of them slipped, it could open the door for someone else.

I could see Watt and Murray getting votes, but I would be very surprised if either one of them comes close to winning.

I suppose the award requires a baseline level of statistical achievement that Russell Wilson won't meet, but it's a shame he isn't more in the conversation. The Seahawks are making a push for the #1 seed in the NFC, and Wilson is leading that charge. If they earn that #1 seed, he deserves consideration.

Rodgers was the slam dunk choice before last week. It's not as clear anymore, but I think he's probably still in the lead. Needs to finish strong, though.

I think depending on how the season ends Le'Veon Bell has a shot. Probably over AB. His rushing and receiving out of the backfield is such a huge threat and is winning the Steelers games almost single handedly.

Surprised how Andrew Luck is being ignored by most..

Leader in Yards and TD's, Colts have the same record as the Packers and he has absolutely nothing for a Running game to support him yet is an after thought

I think he probably deserves a little consideration, but I'd imagine the prevailing thinking is that the difference between the slow start for the Seahawks and their return to prominence in the second half has a whole lot more to do with the defense righting the ship than any sort of stepping up Wilson did. He's been steady and always comes through when he has to, but I don't think he carries a team that doesn't have elite production on the other side of the field, and I don't think voters would see him in that light, either.

On Watt, I'll only say that except for the surprising surge in TD's, I'm not sure he's playing better than he did last year -- which was already one of the most statistically dominant D-line seasons in history -- and that team was the worst in the NFL. The point being, a single lineman, no matter how awesome, just doesn't have that kind of record-changing impact. The only real difference in HOU? A healthier Arian Foster.

I agree that it's probably Brady or Rodgers, though a late season collapse by those guys, coupled with a couple big ones out of Manning or Luck and maybe a league-best record (or tied, in Luck's case)...that could make it interesting.

Yea, that is interesting. Sort of like Rodgers' 2011 season.

Unless the Packers lose to the Lions, Rodgers is going to get it though.

And I don't think any PIT guy has a chance, if for no other reason than it's not really clear who would even be the frontrunner for team MVP.

You act like Rodgers lost the season? Packers win out they are the Divison Champ and likely a #2 seed in the playoffs basically where they sat going into last weekend.

Left this out of the op by accident:

Brady was slow the first four weeks, but nobody has been hotter since, and against tough competition, soundly beating Cinci, buffalo, indy, Denver, San Diego, Detroit, and Miami and outscoring them by a ridiculous 222 to 92 margin.

He is also #3 in turnovers behind Cutler and Bortles with 14 INT 4 FUMSo while Luck has put up numbers he hasn't protected the ball.

Luck probably means more to his team than anyone and deserves the MVP. It is just not his time. Rodgers has kind of been in the shawdow of Manning and Brady for years, it is his time now. Luck needs another great year before people will take him seriously as the MVP.

It was a big loss for a team that was in the driver's seat for the number two seed. Now there's a legitimate chance they don't make the playoffs, or if they do, as a wild card. It also took the top off of his insane 35:3 td to int ratio which was better than Brady 2010. No touchdowns, two picks isn't that bad, but it kills his chance at a record setting season.

Those were two of the biggest arguments in his favor. He's still having%

Bradys last ten games: 3056 yards, 28 tds, 6 interceptions while trouncing Denver, Indy and Cincinnati (all three afc division leaders) 43-21, 42-20 and 43-17, respectively, beating their division rivals Miami and buffalo 41-13 and 37-22, beating the nfc north leading lions 34-9, and hanging 51 on the bears, going 9-1 with their only loss a road game against the packers. Brady hasn't thrown for fewer than two touchdowns in that time.

I voted Rodgers, and he should return to form and win it........But you gotta have Romo on that list, especially after Sunday night. Check out his stats...........And 7-0 on the road. I'd argue that he's more valuable than Murray......Not by a whole lot......But I'd rather go with Romo under center and Randle/Dunbar, than Breeden under center and Murray.

Two more games, and after GB's debaucle in Buff.........It's gonna come down to these last two weeks.

Surprising to me that manning has zero votes so far. Also surprising hoe many votes Murray has. I don't think he's undeserving, but when's the last time a running back won the award without hitting a major milestone? Murray is highly unlikely to hit 2000 yards (1687 through 14 games is 120.5 yards per game, even if healthy he'd need 156.5 per game in his last two to get there) and he's averaging 105.5 in his last six. Still great numbers, but running backs are held to a higher standard. He has 11 rushing touchdowns which is nowhere near a record. He's having a very good season, but he's not going to be mvp without a mammoth laat two games and I think this injury ended his chances.

I considered romo, but he's arguably not even the mvp on his own team. Same problem with big Ben and brown and bell. And I'm not sure romo deserves it over rodgers or Brady.

Out of all the top QBs, Romo's attempts per game is by far the lowest. Having a great offensive line and RB hurts him because he doesn't need to throw the ball that much for them to win.

Rodgers and Brady are a pretty close race and it will probably come down to the last 2 games. If GB somehow misses out of the playoffs (highly unlikely), I think Brady will definitely get it. Also, as bad as Rodgers played last week, I believe his team had more drops in a single game than anyone in history?

I see this scenario as well...another name that should be in the mix is Revis...it is no fluke that his arrival has contributed to the Pats D being about 500 times better than it has been the past five years or so...watching him play every game has been a treat...I knew he was awesome but watching him play every game has put an exclamation point on that...

Crazy thought but does anyone think Russell Wilson has a shot? I know they have a great Defense and Lynch, but he has been leading that offense to some pretty impressive wins with very average receiving weapons. Using his legs more and decision making has been better this year. I think he has an outside chance.

For Wilson to win it would take the Seahawks getting a bye week without the defense dominating the last two games and the pats and packers both stumbling. I can't see a scenario where the packers ate the number one or number two seed and the patriots are the one seed in the afc and Wilson gets mvp.

Romo is a long shot for sure, but I think he belongs in the conversation. It all depends on what happens the last two weeks.

Rodgers, easily.

Best TD-INT ratio, best QBR, best passer rating, best YPA by a pretty good margin, passes the eye test, etc.

Gronk. I think his presence as a downfield weapon and blocker have single handedly changed the Patriots offense this season.

This. If GB misses the playoffs then I and many others will probably reconsider right now, they aren't missing the playoffs and Rodgers is leading the NFl in several many statistics... See above. He's still my easy top pick despite a poor game last week.

I find it odd that Roethlisberger is being brought up at all in this thread. He probably doesn't win but he's more deserving of conversation than guys like A. Brown and even Murray at this point. Check out his stats.

67.2%, 4,415 yds, 8.10 YPA, 29 TDs, 8 Ints, 103.4 QBR.

Nope and I dont understand everyone overlooking Murray at this point. Murray has had an amazing season and is really the reason that team is getting things done. I would be interested in anyone had a source on how many times Murray and the Cowboys are facing stacked boxes allowing an easier time for Romo to throw down field?

We will see but unless Murray actually sits out the next 2 games and Romo has massive games he is not in the realm of being considered as Murray would get the nod as a Cowboy on the ballot.

I think people discount Ben because of the outlier games in the middle of the season. I know you can't throw out 2 games but he had 12 TDs and 862 yards in just 2 games. I think people look at this and say he should be NFL player of the month but then go on their way looking at what they consider the "real" MVP candidates. Not saying this is right or wrong just the reason why I think people look the other way. Personally I feel its Aaron Rodgers and its not close but thats because I am a Packers fan and feel without him the team goes nowhere.

Yep. Roethlisberger hasn't had the consistency the top QBs have had.

Ben has had 7 games with just as many INTs as TD passes.

Rodgers has 3.

Peyton has 3.

Luck has 3.

Brady has 2.

Watt should get it but Rodgers will probably win it. For a QB to have the kind of year Watt is having they'd have to throw 60 TDs.

That's not the whole story. Romo's made a lot of great plays this season. Plenty of em under pressure too. Look, Murray is great, but Romo makes it go. I hope Murray sits this week because we've got two sets of fresh legs in the backfield. Neither one is the runner Murray is, but I think Dallas has a shot with them. Now if Weeden were back there.......

I already said above that I think Romo is slightly more valuable than Murray. I think the argument could be made either way. And yes, Romo would have to light it up the next two games, while Rodgers, Brady, and Luck don't, to even be in the conversation for MVP. Its not out of the realm of possibility.....But, more likely Rodgers will look great these next two weeks and its a done deal.

If the packers win their division with a healthy rodgers, I think it goes to rodgers.

If the packers lose their division, and the patriots are the number one seed, I think it goes to Brady.

If the packers lose their division and the pats lose the number one seed and manning finishes the season strong, I think it goes to manning.

If all that happens and manning is still letting the run game do the talking, and the Cowboys win out with Murray playing well in both of these last two games, I think it goes to Murray.

Otherwise I think it goes to watt.

Surprised how Andrew Luck is being ignored by most..

This. Luck is a turnover machine. For whatever reason defenders can't seem to catch his passes either. I don't know the stat for this year, but last year Luck had the most INTs dropped by defenders out of all QBs.

Seems like there is a media push for Watt to get MVP and how defensive players never get it and he might get it just for that even though Rodgers has been playing lights out for the most part. Only one of his INTs has come from a pass that wasn't tipped.

I don't see why they can't do a defensive MVP and Offensive MVP. They do it for rookie of the year.

They already have OPOY and DPOY. No need for two MVPs.

Ditch OPOY and DPOY and give out Defensive MVP and Offensive MVP. MVP is obviously geared towards offense seeing as a defensive player hasn't won the award in 28 years, give the defensive guys a chance at MVP.

The NFL game is geared toward offense, so naturally the most valuable players are typically offensive players.

I disagree with changing the current system. It has been this way for a long time and has worked fine. No reason to change it now.

Can't see how Brady makes this list he's doing what he typically does, the team isn't winning simply because of him..

he's not even the MVP of his own team, that would be either Gronk or Revis..and I'd put Gronk on the NFL MVP list..he changes everything opposing teams do, he makes his own team infinitely better..

JJ Watt should NOT be on the list of MVP candidates.his team is not headed to the playoffs, who cares if he scores some TDs on offense.he's not in the top 5 in tackles, and is 3rd, not first, on the sack list for 2014..sorry, he doesn't deserve to be in the conversation.

Manning has gone through a lot of adversity this season, but still has the Broncos flyin' high!

after losing two RBs, two WR's , a TE, now back to a 3rd string RB in CJ Anderson. and they're still winning..

can you nominate an entire offensive line for MVP? because if you can, the hands-down winner is the Dallas Cowboys O-line..

Russell Wilson has him team headed back to the SB, they've had a tougher road than any other SB winning team in recent history, and they've only lost 4 games..he's a dynamic player who is grossly underrated.

1. Peyton Manning,deservedly so..

1a. Russell Wilson

2. Cowboys o-line

3. Gronkowski
