Ankle injury.....I'm not giving up on Dave Chappelle yet
(TheHuddle) Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson (leg, back) is scheduled to undergo an MRI because he is experiencing lower leg weakness. The weakness could be related to a back injury. Analysis: Simpson just can't seem to get on the field. Those holding might be well advised to look elsewhere at this point.
okay maybe I'll give up for now....(RotoWire) Simpson's MRI revealed a back issue that was causing his leg weakness/numbness Sunday, the Star Tribune's Dan Wiederer reports. Analysis: Simpson will undergo further testing Tuesday to determine the specifics/severity of the back problem. Nothing's certain, but Simpson's availability for Sunday's game against the Redskins doesn't look promising.
Hard to put the check mark next to his name after last week. I am still deciding whether or not he is even worth the roster spot or not. I suppose that decision will be based on the severity of his injury. It is better to know that his lack of production was due to an injury vs. not being involved in the game plan. Therefore, if this injury is a non issue, he should still be worth the roster spot (especially with the lack of WW potential this week.) Ideally, if I hold him, I'd like to see how involved he is in the game plan but you are right. MIN has a great passing match-up this week. IF his injury is nothing to worry about - Is anyone else out there considering starting him?I'd have to think a random back issue can be taken care of by a chiropractor - he's got a juicy matchup vs the Skins this weekend.
So it didn't happen during warmups. That info doesn't inspire confidence. A pinched nerve is what kept Peyton Manning out all last year. It's in a different location from a neck injury like Peyton or Steve Slaton's, and we won't know how bad Simpson's is until we get more reports, but to me it seems that getting injured while sleeping isn't a good thing....wide receiver Jerome Simpson woke up with numbness and weakness in his lower left leg that hindered him in the game against Tennessee.
Until we see more ( how he's being used, his health, how does he look in the offense ), he's bye week filler, at best. I can see cutting him for a waiver pickup or other position bye week help. IMO, he's near or at the bottom of my roster.Hard to put the check mark next to his name after last week. I am still deciding whether or not he is even worth the roster spot or not. A lot depends on the underlying cause of the numbness. If there is no lumbar disk damage, he could be playing fine in a week's time. It would be interesting to see if Simpson has had other pain that he did not recognize as related to his back and leg.I experienced a somewhat similar sensation, although not exactly as quickly as described in the article. Although I had some back soreness previously, I always bounced back in a day or two of rest. But then fairly suddenly I had a pain in my hip that I believed to be muscular. Within another two weeks or so, the pain was all the way down to my ankle. Only after another six weeks was I properly diagnosed with a herniated L5-S1 disk. Medical technology has progressed significantly since I had this issue in 1990, and he's going to get superior treatment and much more quickly than I did. The main concern I would have with his health is that until back pain is experienced, it can be disguised as a problem in the pelvis or anywhere all the way down the leg. Now that the Vikings medical team is aware of this, they should be able to pinpoint the issue and more information should be forthcoming in the next few days.I'd have to think a random back issue can be taken care of by a chiropractor - he's got a juicy matchup vs the Skins this weekend.
I went through that same transition in terms of learning to sleep always on my side or back. Hopefully, the Vikings staff sees this thread and passes along the information to Jerome. They read the Shark Pool, right?I would tend to agree with what you are saying. I myself have experienced intense backpain only to get temporarily relieft by visiting my chiro. Same type of deal - pain in the back and hip lower lumbar area numbness as well. My Chiro asked me how I was sleeping on my back or on my stomach - I said stomach. Turns out sleeping on your stomach puts a lot of pressure on your lower back - I switched to sleeping on my side/back and my pain has virtually disappeared. He should be able to go if he gets the proper treatment.
hmmmm...right about the time I put him in my line up....In addition to what footballnerd quoted, Yahoo is reporting that Simpson experienced the numbness when he woke up Sunday morning:
My spin: upon further review, Simpson's back issues may be treatable with an exercise regimen (almost certainly stretching and flexibility oriented) and could only be short term. At this point, it appears that Simpson is not going to need surgery. We'll see what tomorrow's news suggests. The results of WR Jerome Simpson's medical tests on his leg weakness are in and the news is better than expected. As reported earlier, the leg weakness was related to something in his back, and the Vikings think treatment should allow him to potentially return to the practice field on Thursday.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota wide receiver Jerome Simpson doesn't need surgery for the back problem that caused weakness and numbness in his lower left leg, and the Vikings expect him to play Sunday at Washington.
Coach Leslie Frazier said Wednesday that Simpson will be held out of practice as a precaution but could be cleared for action by Thursday or Friday. Frazier said "all indications are" that Simpson will be fine to face the Redskins and has improved since waking up the morning of last Sunday's game against Tennessee with the strange, sudden injury.
I don't think you're going to miss him. I was very close to dropping him too but I decided to wait it out a week (I had coverage with my top 3 WRs not on a bye) and see if there was any good news.In any case, I hope I didn't tip the scales on your decision. I was pretty pessimistic yesterday based on the limited information out there at the time. You can probably get him back, but honestly, if he was on the waiver wire and you didn't have him, would you want to go get him?Nice I just dropped him!!!!
Doesn't look likely he'll play this weekend if you read into the HC's comment. Still holding for better days.(RotoWire)Simpson (back) was limited in Friday's practice and is questionable against Washington. Head coach Leslie Frazier said he'll need to see more from Simpson this weekend before deciding whether he can play, ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities reports.Analysis: Simpson is officially a game-time decision, but it's possible the Vikings may decide before Sunday that he won't play. It seems unlikely he'll play unless he goes through Sunday's pregame workouts and has no issues with his back or leg (which limited him last week).
