Who's the better RB, Chris Johnson or AP? (1 Viewer)

Let me know what you think...
Welcome to the boards. I suspect that you have the #1 pick in an upcoming draft. As such, there is a ton of info on both of these guys both in the forums and on the main site. Try the search box in the top-right corner. Also, threads like this tend to get legs faster if the OP (original poster) offers their opinion first. It gives people something to discuss as opposed to a standard "who is better?" thread.Again, welcome. Hope this was of some help.

It's like asking if you prefer atlantic or pacific salmon.

It's a salmon. with slightly different characteristics... and unless youre a chef or a seasoned eater... you won't know the difference.

I'll bite... i vote Peterson and know I'm in the minority. CJ's game is based on his speed and vision and i never fully trust RBs that are just plain speed freaks. It was like last yr all the chips just fell for Johnson and it all clicked, and in most cases a season like that leads to a disappointing season... not saying CJ won't be good but most likely won't be RB1.

Peterson has it all, speed (not CJ speed), vision (not LT vision but good vision), and the strength to run over and carry players. And the scary part is I don't think we have seen the best of Peterson yet... I think hes still holding back some.

Good advice Abraham. Just asking who is better doesn't give a lot to go on. Is Johnson a better receiver out of the backfield, is Adrian Peterson better near the goaline, can one of them pick up 3rd down blitzes better than the other? If you can be a little more specfic, you'll get better quality responses here in The Pool.

Maurice Jones-Drew.
I agree and am surprised anybody else said MJD. I thought i would be in a very small minority. But strictly between peterson and johnson, I think peterson is the better back. But this seems like an exercise in splitting hairs.

Why do you care so much if AP fumbles from time to time. It's been proven that he fumbles less per touch than a lot of the all time greats such as walter payton, barry sanders, priest holmes, etc....

Are you playing in leagues that deduct 10 points per fumble or something. The fumbling argument is not really one to make when the guy still leads the league in goal line carries. They have and they will continue to feed this guy the ball all the time.

They're both great. Flip a coin.

CJ can win you your week (several times) with his game breaking ability. He's the kind of player who can go into a 4th quarter having

a lousy 70 yards on 20 yards and no TDs, and then all of a sudden bust an 80 yarder for a TD. 3 minutes later he does it again. Those

kinds of players are few and far between.

AP seems to be more of a consistent performer every game. A lock for decent yardage and high TD totals. Never fails to deliver

every Sunday.

Not sure how you could go wrong with either.

One note worth considering: Tennesse started last season 0-6, and their season was basically done. Fischer gave the ball to CJ

and let him run wild and free, with little consequences. If he got injured, oh well, season's over anyways....so might as well feed the

rock to CJ and let him do his thing.

If Tennessee is fighting for a playoff spot this year, I don't think Fischer will be as generous giving carries to CJ. He will spell CJ sooner

than latter in games that Tennessee is up in to keep him fresh. Granted, giving the ball to CJ gives Tennessee the best chance to win, but minimizing

his workload will also have to be a consideration to avoid injury and keeping him fresh.

If they can find a very productive goal-line back, don't be surprised if we see a CJ & Lendale White type rushing attack this season. I hope this isn't the case,

but it could happen to prevent CJ from making those goal line plunges.

That's my take on the whole situation.

I've been thinking for the last 4 years MJD is the best, even when LT was ruling the leauge. I drafted this guy every year in every legue hoping he takes over the league.

I don't watch the stats as I watch how difficult a guy his size is to take down. Easily the best lb for lb and inch for inch rb since Barry. Do not ever think CJ is better, he will not last.

ADP and MJD is what the NFL comes down when it comes to RB's, there are no others that belong in this discussion

The only way TN is fighting for a playoff spot this year is by giving CJ3 20-25 touches a game. They know this.

The only way TN is fighting for wins, period, is probably by giving Johnson 20+ touches a game. Fisher has proven, time and again, that he absolutely will ride his stud RBs into the ground, so I don't see many carries being lost for Johnson that he wasn't going to normally lose anyway(i.e. when he's taken out to be given a blow, GL work, or whatever).I can't see Ringer or Blount impacting his production very much at all. Almost certainly, he isn't going to get 2k yards again...but it won't be because of Ringer or Blount.
