I have a couple expendable bench spots and am thinking it might be a good time to make some longer-term stashes. This decision comes down to a balance between the player's ROS value and the opportunity cost of holding them on your bench for however long it takes them to come back.

Here's my current thinking: The two big-name QBs (Rodgers and Luck) aren't really worth it, and not just because I have Wentz. With Rodgers, I don't see him coming back until the fantasy playoffs, and even then, they may ease him back. With Luck, there's far too much uncertainty, and a very real possibility they hold him out for the year.

If David Johnson is available, run don't walk and pick him up. But I doubt he was dropped in too many leagues (Yahoo says he's 78% owned).

Of the remaining options, my No. 2 stash candidate is Danny Woodhead (17% owned in Yahoo). He's not due back until Week 11, so you'd have to hold him for two weeks before you could use him. He's an obvious injury risk in a crowded backfield on a mediocre offense, but Woodhead has been such a consistent producer when healthy that I still think he's worth the investment.

No 1 is Charles Clay (14% owned). There's some uncertainty about when he'll be back, but it looks like it will be in the next week or two. He's been Buffalo's only reliable receiving option all season. And he's already past his bye.

Thoughts? Disagreements? Anyone else I'm missing?

I have Cory Davis. Let's see if all this expert advice is right. I lost OBJ and am suffering through the Amari Cooper-Alshon Jeffrey crapfest. I'm loving that I snagged Fuller the week he came back, though I've missed a couple his big games (like most people today).

Yes, didn't even think of him (although I have him on another one of my teams). He should very likely be back next week.

I have Engram who's just gotten past his bye but I'm considering Clay as a defensive play because consistent TE production has been difficult to attain.

I'd like to stash him as a safety alternative play if something happened to Engram and keep him off someone else's roster.

I'm loathe to burn a high waiver claim pick on him but if you don't get him this week he's as good as gone later.

Woodhead would be my 2nd stash pick because as mentioned the injury risk and not sure if he'll be as productive in that anemic offense.

Thanks. Who would you rate as more valuable in ppr ROS Dede or Coleman?
Probably Coleman because he has some NFL experience, his team is in dire need of even remotely talented pass catchers and his team will be trailing 80% of the time.

Dede is interesting. I don't know much about him from college but he flashed during preseason action. He's apparently supposed to push Hurns for his slot role. Or at least that's what I keep reading.

Charcandrick West? The 6-1 team with Hunt (could be 7-1 or 6-2 depending on how Hunt does) dropped West for bye week fillers. I snagged him up. If anything happens to Hunt, jackpot!

99% of the guys listed are rostered everywhere except maybe short bench redraft
As I mentioned in the OP, both Woodhead and Clay are owned in less than 20% of Yahoo leagues.

ETA For the record:

  • Olsen: 42%
  • CDavis: 26%
  • Rodgers: 44%
  • Luck: 37%
  • Coleman: 11%
  • Westbrook: 8%

Another vote for Coleman if only because of the hot mess at WR and the fact that he seemed to develop some chemistry with Kizer in preseason and game one.

Not sure, but I think he's eligible to return week 11 and can start practicing next week.

Unfortunately most of our benches can only support so many stashes especially working around bye-weeks.

Personally I wouldn't bother picking up Rodgers or Luck.  Top priorities to acquire are C.Davis, Olsen and Coleman.

Not sure what Yahoo ownership is for Clay and Woodhead is, but I'd certainly have them on your list.

Someone in my league has already picked up Olsen, which is why Clay is my top priority right now considering the wasteland productivity of TEs right now.

Yeah, that was why I posted the thread: Most people will only have room for one or two stashes, so it is important to prioritize.

FYI, Clay is 14% and Woodhead is 17%. Speaking from personal experience, I play in 14- and 16-team leagues, both with 5 bench spots, and they're available (Olsen and Davis are not).

I'll acquire Clay this week (just to cuff Engram and play defense against league mates) but because of bye-weeks, I wouldn't be able to get Danny until next week at the earliest.

Word is Danny won't be back until week 11 at the earliest.

Because of that, I'd say I have a 50-50 shot chance of getting him.

Guys in my league are true sharks that leave no stone unturned.

I had Olsen on my radar blip to stash and was really surprised he was picked up last week.

There's no reason for Indy to play Luck at this point.

Rodgers couldn't come back at Week 15 at the earliest. I don't know if I could make it to the playoffs and then rely on him after not playing for 8 weeks. IF he does come back Week 15, perhaps letting him play that game to see how things go, and start him Week 16 if all goes well. That would assume SB berth for most teams as many don't play Week 17.

I believe he's eligible to come off IR in Week 10, but the Ravens are on bye that week, so yes, Week 11. But as you say, that's the earliest. He may not be fully healed, and they may bring him back later, or not at all (although considering their offensive woes this year, you have to assume they'll play him if he's ready).

At 2-6 I did the same just to piss off  Commish (Hunt Owner)  who is 7-1 :)

Rotoworld news:

Cat is out of the bag....blast it.

Danny Woodhead (hamstring, I.R.) is eligible to return in Week 11.

Woodhead may resume practicing this week. The Ravens have a bye in Week 10, then Woodhead will be eligible to play in the following game. Whenever Woodhead returns, he should immediately take over passing-down snaps from Buck Allen and play in tandem with new Ravens lead back Alex Collins. Fantasy leaguers who play in PPR leagues should consider rostering Woodhead this week.

Saw that. Damn, was hoping he'd slide under the radar.

So it sounds like those with Allen in PPR should drop him during the bye and pick up Woodhead. Maybe even a week earlier if you have other quality RBs.

People getting excited about Danny Woodhead is pretty funny. Dude can't stay healthy and Collins is the man. I like Clay and Coleman's though.

????

He's very much worth the gamble especially if you need RB help.  Even better if you want him to just block your competition.

Danny is a high RB2 in ppr leagues if he does stay healthy though.  No team targeted the RB position more than the Ravens did last year.

I'm starting to rethink my decision if I should grab Clay before Danny this week.
