Why did the Philles dump Cliff Lee? (1 Viewer)

I know that it has been discussed in here but I don`t feel like looking for it.

The Phillies had Lee under contract for this season. Halliday and Lee seemed like an unbeatable righty/lefty combo. Quite possibly the best righty and the best lefty in MLB on the same staff. Teams like the Yanks or RedSox would sell their souls for a combo like that.

Bleacher Report articles are typically terrible, but this one contains some of Amaro's rationale. Which I don't really agree with. If you're going to add Halladay, might as well go for broke and empty out the coffers/farm system.

Another assumption is that the guys Philadelphia got from Seattle will be better than the compensation picks they would have received in next year's draft for losing Lee as a type A free agent.The Bleacher Report article was written before Tyson Gillies was busted for possession of cocaine
