Why do people complain about the commish? (1 Viewer)

I don't get this, people sign up for a league, pay their dues, fully knowing they're getting into a league with a commish who has their own team. The people in the league all start pointing fingers at their commish saying their trades are shady, the league isn't run right, ect. I just don't get it. If you're in this kind of league why do you stay in it? Are people just cronic complainers and feel they just need something to complain about?

Our league did away with a commish simply because of these problems. I used to sit back and field phone calls from other owners who would complain to me about the commish and his shady doings. At the next league meeting we decided to get rid of the job and just have a person in charge of the website and handling of money.

As far as shady trading, we have a trade commish made up of five owners. They have to be vigilant because every trade must either be approved or denied within 2 hours or the trade goes through by default. Owners have teams and line ups to get in so this is why the need for speed on approval or denial.

Of course we run into the occassional two trade commish involved in a trade, then it goes to two other owners to decide. Trade commish is not allowed to discuss the deal with any other owner its a simple yes or no. Now in it's fourth year, we've never had a trade vetoed.

Complaining about a commish is childish. I always felt bad for the guy who had the job in our league because they were always viewed as some kind of authority, when in reality they were one of our friends trying to do the right thing. Its really a thankless job, just like being an official in a basketball game or any other sport. I think people just need to suck it up and stop complaining or get out of the league or better yet, find a solution to the problem instead of creating more by whining.

I wouldn't be in this league. Unless there is suspicion of collusion, you have no right to "veto" my trade. I paid my $$, stay out of how I run my team.

Only teams suspected of collusion. Any other trades are just processed by the guy in charge of the website.

I've been in two leagues for 6 years; been the Commish in one the whole time and was Commish in the other for two years (we rotate the duty among the owners). Neither league has ever had an issue. Was in a third league for two years and got tired of the Commish's shenanigans: bending rules, clearly collusive trades (like him acquiring Shaun Alexander for Peerless Price), and even attempting to change the schedule for the last three weeks of the season so he got easy wins while the other top team got tougher games. It wasn't even a money league, he just had some need to win no matter how he did it. I "whined" and screamed about it because I wasn't going to let him get away with it, then made it clear I wouldn't be back for another year because of his actions. His solution was to offer to let me be "co-commish" so I had some control. Told him I didn't play fantasy sports so that I could waste time worrying about what he was up to and walked away. Bottom line: sometimes the Commish really is a crook.

People who always complain about commishes should try being one sometime. It's a pretty thankless job, and is unappreciated by a lot of fantasy players who don't know what is involved in being one.

That being said, i have only had one really bad commish, and I just played the year out and then left after the season. I am fortunate to play with mostly good owners and all good commishes. A league is as good as its owners, and the commish is an owner.

I run 2 leagues and all I do is set up the draft date, collect $, set rosters after the draft and pay out the winners.

I am a commsih in 1 league...so i know how it goes, but i just got :ptts: by the commish of another league.

I accepted a Maurice Morris for Kitna trade....i was getting Kitna.....the owner who OFFERED me the trade said it was an accident. So the commish vetoed it. Total crap in my opinion.....i mean what if i accidentally put a player in my line-up that does worse than someone on my bench. Think he will change it for me??

Sounds like our league. I'm in charge of it this year and my biggest problem was open bar or cash bar. We decided on cash bar, cheaper that way.

Who handles disputes and possible grey areas in the rules that occasionally happen?
I handle all issues but I have had very few issues in the years (9 and 3) of the2 leagues. Most of the time it is an owner just #####ing about something.

Does your commish take a fee?

One of my owners plays in another league and he told me the commish of that league take $60 for his duties.

Our person who manages the website, handles money, and makes preseason arrangements gets their team half priced. We don't call it commish but it rotates each year.
