Why do so many "Sharks" still play in snake drafts (1 Viewer)

Our baseball league does auction, and it's definitely the format I prefer. We are scattered around the country, but we all get together for a weekend to do our auction. We hang out, gamble, go to strip clubs, watch March Madness, and bid on baseball players. IMHO it is fairer and it takes more skill than a live draft, and it's more fun.

Unfortunately, when the same guys set up a football league, we weren't able to get together for a second weekend. The draft has always been over the phone and on the net, and auctions are too time consuming/impractical for a non-live draft.

In my guppy football league, most of the guys are wasted by the 4th round. An auction just wouldn't work for this league.

I definitely prefer the auction format, but it doesn't work for either football league I am in. Snake drafts are still fun, and I'd rather not search for a new league just because it has an auction..

I think you hit the nail on the head. Take whatever format works for the people in your league or look for another league if you don't like it. I use the auction for both of my leagues, but I would do a snake draft if that is what was required. I do feel that drafting in person is one of the highlights of the season, just seeing people's faces when they way overspend on someone or listening the comments from the others in the room. We have all known each other for 15 years, so there is no limit to what can be brought up to throw someone off their game.

I believe strongly in the free market.

Does anyone else find it funny that BGP uses his love of the free market as a reason AGAINST using an auction instead of a draft? Wouldn't the free market way of creating a team be the auction format? Not surprising mind you, just funny.

Love Snake Draft. It is like a real draft and a lot of fun! I don't think I will ever chage my opinion on this, I love the snake draft format!
