Why don't we have Pro Track w/ Betting? [serious] (1 Viewer)

We have a myriad of professional sports from bowling to disc golf to boxing/MMA to football. We also have horse racing.

Why don't we have a professional HUMAN RACING like we do with horses?

Why can't we go down to the track and bet on people running 100m, 200m, hurdles etc and bet on them like we do the ponies?

I'll hand up and not listen.

I think you are on to something. Seriously.

Although the only real issue I can see is easily fixing races.

Does seem like a good way for the olympians to train though eh?

Some guy though might be like a 1:500 payout.

interesting idea

Hell, anything can be fixed. I don't see any difference between a sprinter being able to throw a race and a jockey doing the same.

And think about what kind of job opportunities this could create for college runners who aren't good enough for the Olympics or NFL or whatever.

Maybe because there is almost no variance in their times?? Sometimes a horse can be like 10 seconds off their normal. But a runner (depending on the distance of course) is usually super consistent with their times.

I would love for this to exist, I just dont think it ever will.................in my lifetime

Handicap them? Make them wear weighted vests or ankle weights or swim fins?

I need to see if I can crowdfund this thing.

kind of amazing, as long as I have gambled and stuff, not sure i ever even heard this idea before.

you get this #### sanctioned, and I will be there betting on it. Would be a hoot.

Fat guy is 1000000:1, need 8 blown hammys for him to win

This could be done so easily at existing tracks. Just remove the horses from the premises. RUN, RAFAEL, RUN!!

They have it except it's not a race, it's a glorious game. It's call jai-alai.
Or bowling or golf or basketball.

Come on, Slick.
Serious answer is every race would be rigged. The obvious rigging would make the races laughable. Maybe if you embraced that the races were fake like WWF you could get a cult following.
Why would it be any different than horse racing or boxing/MMA etc?
Because owners/trainers are invested in those races, tough to rig them especially when you add a horse into the equation. Fighting and racing not really comparable, are they? Fights have been rigged but can't rig a lot of them. Those guys want to win. Watch Jai-alai. Those guys don't care what happens.

I do think it would be easy to rig, but moreso I just think runners are far too consistent that the betting wouldnt be very difficult with very minor information.

Bring back jai alai, dangit!!
I just went to an OTB the other week. I think jai-alai is still around. I think it's still fixed, too.
Yeah, they still play it in Miami, but that's about it. Barely anywhere else can you see it live anymore. In fact, they only have it because it allows them to have slot machines at the casino, too, and that's where the money is. Local law says they have to play a certain number of jai alai games per day to qualify having slots there as a "side business". So for a while, one place just had two employees play against each other all day long in an empty fronton with a black curtain in front of it to not bother the slot players.

Wish there was somewhere I could go with a big crowd and lots of betting action.

And apparently it's a bit harder to fix than you'd think. People still try, but, the complexity discourages them.

Interesting. Thanks. Yeah, I sort of remember all the ones in CT closing. Milford Jai-Alai was huge growing up. I was surprised to see it as a betting option, which I did out of the corner of my eye.

Why stop there? Let's get back to the days of gladiators. Fight to the death. That's what most people want to see anyway. Good way to clean up the gene pool.

Milford jai-alai was the place for us to hang out when we were 18 but couldn't drink. Loved that place! Whenever old souvenirs show up on ebay I try to bid on them.

 I'm sure there would be trainers/managers involved in people racing as well.

And I don't see any frontons around here so that's not doing me any good.

There are 6 frontons in Florida that still have live action
