Benson on Jones -

''I was able to sit down in my locker and think back on that situation and feel this guy is so intimidated by me, he cannot hold his composure around me,'' Benson said. ''So I left it alone.''
Looks like Benson got the last laugh.

I really do wish Benson would just keep his trap shut and let his talent and actions speak for themselves on the field. Who else yammers to the media like this? Why did we necessarily need to know that he got punched in the face? What good does it come to him and his status on the team airing out his dirty laundry in public like that, and still apparently holding a grudge with teammates?

What a drama queen!

:bye: on ESPN 1050 AM-Ny on friday, TJ was speaking with Steven A's crew. in a nutshell, he said Benson was a guy who pouted and whined a lot, because he wasn't getting the ball, basically calling him out as being unprofessional and a baby. He said Benson wasn't willing to work with the team and that he didn't feel he was being treated right , or treated like a high draft pick "should" be..

TJ sounds like a guy with a good head on his shoulders He's professional, and he acts as such.He doesn't complain. He goes out and does what the team asks of him. He also said nothing was guaranteed to him with the Jets, that the #1 job hasn't been predetermined and that he's looking to help the team in any way he can..

and, he apparently looks to be in great shape.

He's going to add another dimension to this offense, they have a legit home-run threat at RB, one with superb hands and good blocking instincts ( passing downs).

Contrary to popular belief, Thomas Jones is not much of a homerun threat.

fixed it.compared to ANY RB the Jets have had not named Curtis Martin, TJ is most DEFINITELY a home-run threat. he's not a game breaker like Portis would be, but he's MORE than capable of ripping off the odd long TD run ( or RAC for TD).

Leon Washington is good, but he's not as versatile as TJ...

Do you think Jones' career started in Chicago? Jones was a bust and headcase himself before coming to Chicago and finally growing up. All this BS about Jones always being a good teammate and ultimate pro is anything but the truth. And Leon Washington is more a homerun threat than Jones will ever be.

So are you talking off of your head or do you have facts?TJ rarely had a long TD run or long catch for a TD.

In fact, he has never even had a TD reception.

TJ is very overrated. The Bears O-line made him and NY is about to see what he is all about. He dances and is not very good at breaking tackles. If he went to a zone blocking scheme and could cut back everytime he could be effective, but not a homerun threat.

I fixed my post, if you go back and look at it..he's not a true home-run threat like Portis, but he's decent in his own right..I know he started in Az. He was a malcontent early on, sure, but probably because Az was SOOO BAAD :lmao: ..all I'm saying is what he talked about on the air..

Washington's longest run last season, was 23 yards. TJ's was 30 yards. TJ has twenty four runs of 20+ yards in his career..12 came in 2005 with the Bears..since joining the Bears, his longest receptions were of 41 and 45 yards , in 2004/5. Those are good numbers for a guy most judge as being a tad `slow`..he's not a burner like Portis, but he has speed and can knock off a few long runs or receptions..

Washington might be faster, but he's smaller too..he's more of a 3rd down guy who can compliment TJ..the two should work well together.

do you actually watch Jets games??!

Washington was nothing special. maybe thats why the team jumped ,at first chance,to sign TJ..if they were confident in Washington's ability to be the #1 guy, they would NOT have signed TJ.

Obviously you didn't watch many Jets games if you think Washington was nothing special. Granted he is not a starting Pro Bowl rb, but that kid can play. And don't forget about Jones stint with the Bucs, I know it is forgetable.

Obviously you don't watch many Bears games.Another doosy of a quote from Benson saying he was ''10 times the man and 10 times the player.'' And still crying that he was hit too hard in last's years Training camp by the Bears defense, along with claiming Thomas Jones friends on the team were after Benson and leaked bad stuff to reporters about him. The guy is a #####, I have never seen any quote from him that was directly about himself, and how good he is and how raw of a deal he has gotten in life. But I'm sure the Benson owners will be quick to defend him.

What RB in the last 20 years has had a great season in Arizona? Maybe one...two at the most??When TJ came to Tampa and got a chance to play he parlayed that nice spurt of production into a nice ( not great) contract in Chicago and was the ultimate teamate.

Now he lands on a up and coming Jets team and poised to habve another very productive top 12 year. Thomas Jones is a player.

Benson is a complainer and a huge malcontent. He will be average at best.

Name a QB in the last 20 years to have a great season in Chicago.Yet, Grossman get ridiculed.

I didn't read anywhere that Cedric Benson was 'punched' in the face.

Struck in the face could mean an elbow slipped, and he got 'struck' in the face - which isn't premeditated.

Much ado about nothing imho. Benson should just shut his face and play. The media must love this guy.

 IIRC, he looked pretty good when given the opportunity. I don't really think he was used right, but it is definitely nothing to be ashamed about. The reason he left is because he wanted an opportunity to start. For some reason JG wasn't willing to give it to him. We were also pretty cap strapped at that time, so that may have had something to do with it as well.I personally am high on TJ. I consider him sort of the Winky Wright of RBs. Took him a little while to make a name for himself, so he may not be as popular as a few guys out there. But, he was drafted in the 1st round, and I believe he is the same age as Edge. To make a long story short, he now is n a perfect place, and has a great back-up to come in on passing downs.

Cedric Benson = keeping it real.

Way to go Cedric. Once he starts lighting it up on the field, all the Thomas Jones questions will once again resurface. I can't believe people don't realize what a golden situation it is for a RB in Chicago. Thomas Jones is going to fall hard this year in New York.

Benson on Jones -

''I was able to sit down in my locker and think back on that situation and feel this guy is so intimidated by me, he cannot hold his composure around me,'' Benson said. ''So I left it alone.''
Looks like Benson got the last laugh.
Last laugh? Sitting on the pine because Jones IS better? Yeh, last laugh. And when Jones is still performing in NY and Benson busts again this season, who will be laughing?

I dont think either one of these guys will be a bust. TJones is the comsumate pro, great team mate, always in great shape, runs hard and catches the ball well out of the back field. He should get close to 300 carries and should put up solid RB#2 numbers.Benson is a guy i think needs 20 carries a game to be effective, too many people are trying to evaluate him with his limited carries he was getting per game when TJones was in Chicago, I think thats a mistake. I have a feeling he performs very well and I'm hoping all other 11 owners in my league think he is horrible so i can get him very late.

Agreewith you on Benson, disagree on TJ. Personally, I think Thomas Jones will be a bust this year. I would not be surprised one bit if Leon Washington outproduced him on less touches. The guy is just not a very good RB. Thomas Jones is the guy who needed 20 carries a game to be effective. And because he was effective, from a fantasy standpoint (thanks pro-bowl o-line and #1 rated defense), many people overestimate his true abilities. People evaluating Thomas Jones based on what he did in Chicago are making a mistake. Even in that money situation, the guy could hardly break a pedestrian 4.0 ypc average, he's a career 4.0 ypc runner. Hell, for all the talk I hear of him being a great receiver, why did his yards per catch go down every year in Chicago? Catching the ball when it is thrown to you, and being a good receiving RB are two entirely different things.Outside of Chicago, what has Thomas Jones ever done? A single 100 yard rushing game against Houston while he was in Tampa? Only took him 40 carries.
