How about the players themselves? Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? I am pretty pissed off.![]()
How about shortening the regular NFL season back down to 12 games?Let it run from October week 1 - January week 1. Playoffs and Superbowl at end of January. No way the players could handle it on their bodies.
We own the players. They play for US.How about the players themselves? Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? I am pretty pissed off.![]()
you obviously don't play football. Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? I am pretty pissed off.![]()
i wish, i wish, i hadn't squish that fish.I would love to see football run a longer season, but you're right it's physically impossible.you obviously don't play football. Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? Never happen. It would oversaturate the market with football. The NFL knows what it's doing, and it knows that we're dying to get more football. Why do you think football is more popular than baseball? Baseball's on all the time. Football - they leave you wanting more. And yes, I'm ready for the season to start! It wouldn't be hard to make the schedule twice as long and have teams play every other week. Small injuries would actually have a better chance to heal rather than get aggrivated. Instead of 10-12 games on Sunday you have 5 or 6. You just have to wait an extra week to see your team play.
Not saying it would happen either, just saying they could do this -- as a response to people who are saying that the players wouldn't be able to survive more games in a season.Never happen. Get him McCarthy, he's a communist! How about shortening the regular NFL season back down to 12 games?Let it run from October week 1 - January week 1. Playoffs and Superbowl at end of January. No way the players could handle it on their bodies.
Then, second football league starts up in April week 1 - July week 1. Playoffs and Superboal at end of July.
Months of rest between league games = minimum 8 weeks.
Plenty of recovery time.

The correct answer. Physically impossible and the NFLPA would never go for it.No way the players could handle it on their bodies.
Considering the average person's attention span, I think this would kill the NFL.You just have to wait an extra week to see your team play.

I thought the "off-season" was only that short period between the Super Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine?!Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? I am pretty pissed off.![]()
It's 12 months a year here - what's your problem? Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? I am pretty pissed off.![]()
Sorry you're sitting at home bored and have nothing better to do. The players may PLAY about 5 months/year, but they are practicing, lifting weights, etc. to get set for the next season just about 12 months/year. It would be ridiculous to ask players to play some 8 months/year. No one's body would stand up to that. RBs especially would last like 3-4 years at most, and you'd see every team with RBBC, with 2-3 RBs getting significant playing time every year. It would be a very very different NFL...I like it the way it is...Is there anybody that would be against NFL football being 8 months per year rather than 5 months per year? It's special because it is so short. I love baseball, but the season is so long I don't pay attention to every single game. I never miss a NFL Sunday, or Monday Night game. It's quality, not quantity.
If the XFL had started in May instead of February, there'd probably be at least a small chance at that.
Although the media slamming that accompanied it (to appease the monster NFL?) certainly didn't help it, the XFL wasn't bad for what it is as long as people didn't expect NFL-caliber play.
If anyone other than Vince Mcmahon owned the XFL it may have stood a chance. ESPN & the sportscasters on the networks were making a mockery of it before it even started.
