Why is nobody talking about Tanner? (1 Viewer)

He has two of the most injury-prone RBs ahead of him, both are currently hurt or hurting, why isn't he getting any attention? The fact that nobody but the Cowboys know the severity of Murray's injury, which could be worse than perceived, along with Felix Jones being Felix Jones, I'm not sure where all the sharks are in the Shark Tank. Thoughts and your sensitive feelings?

I like this guy's running style. He runs tough, delivers punishment to the defenders and always seems to be moving forward. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more opportunities based on talent alone. That said, Dallas seems content to give Felix the majority of the carries so until fragile Felix gets injured again I don't see Tanner having a ton of value.

I've been talking him up ever since Murray went down. There's just no way Felix holds up with numerous 15+ touch workloads. Since there's a chance Murray's injury could linger, I truly believe Tanner should be rostered in all 12-team leagues. He's not as versatile as Murray but offers similar power in the run the game.

Another piece of news off of RW:

Felix Jones (questionable, knee) was limited in Cowboys practice Friday.

Jones practiced on both Thursday and Friday and, despite the questionable tag, is expected to start Sunday's game against the Giants. Dealing with knee and neck injuries, it remains to be seen whether Jones can last four quarters. He has a long history of struggling at less than full health. Should Jones go down at any point in Sunday's game, Phillip Tanner would take over.

I agree that Jones is injury prone, but I don't think Murray is. Murray only missed four games total in his college career. He broke his ankle last season, but that was a freak thing with the way he went down. He sprained his foot this season, but RBs get dinged. If you want to call him injury prone then you can add Phillip Tanner to that label. He hurt his hamstring last year and was put on injured reserve, and he broke a bone in his hand at training camp this season.

Murray might not be injury prone by your label, but if you ever watch him run, he certainly doesn't try to avoid contact. After watching him against the Giants week 1, I almost guaranteed he would miss a few games this season. He's a very aggressive runner that needs to learn about running out of bounds more often. But this is just my opinion.

I was at the game this weekend and have watched all his runs on coaches film.

Line couldn't open any gaping holes against the Panthers 17th ranked run defense and that's pretty much what it will take for Tanner to break off anything longer than 4 yards. Felix seems to be able to manufacture a little more than Tanner with backside cuts and getting to the hole quicker.

Tanner's a tough runner and runs with energy but not much else. Rather average if you ask me. Backside cuts don't seem to be in his repertoire. I guess maybe he isn't quite right after his ACL.

Seems to me if you gave him a big hole he'd find someone to run into.

Why isn't there a thread with every single fantasy player about how nobody is talking about them? That'd be awesome.
... which begets why isn't there a thread asking why isn't there a thread asking why there isn't a thread talking about every player no one is talking about ... ya follow?

Sounds like Tanner took a lot of the first-team reps this week. I'm probably gonna have to start him in my flex, either him, Vereen, or one of my underwhelming WR's. Could be good for a TD if he gets the majority of the touches.

Unfortunately, Jones got virtually all the touches. Tanner had a couple shots from the 1-yard line, but the Giants' defense was too stout.

(KFFL)Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones' (knee, neck) health now is an area of concern as the team prepares for its Week 9 game. In addition to a bruised knee suffered in a game Oct. 21, Jones also suffered a nerve irritation in his neck in the first series of that game. Jones carried the ball 13 times for just 19 yards in Week 8. He was on the practice field Thursday, Nov. 1, with his knee taped up. "We'll see what his health is going into this game," head coach Jason Garrett said. "Certainly those other guys have to be ready to play." RBs Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar are the only two healthy backs currently on the roster.
Felix could injure his ACL in a pillow fight. Are we back to talking about Tanner yet?

Maybe Dunbar? Tanner has been pretty underwhelming. Then again, you'll take what you can get behind that OL.As of right now, it seems as if Felix is being held together by bubble gum and duct tape. My over under was that he'd last 2-3 games with lead back touches. Were coming up on that mark this week.

I dropped him after he gave me nothing last week. But I do have a flex spot that I'm trying to fill this week, and I don't really have any great options. Tanner's still sitting there on my league's waiver wire waiting to be scooped up again. Maybe he could have a bit of upside for my team, but that would require Dallas sitting Jones or limiting his touches. As it stands, they're probably just gonna run an ineffective and injured Felix into the line and wonder what's wrong.

Tanner has a long way to go. He completely blew several run fakes against the Giants, going the wrong way. Just as importantly, he got blown up on multiple occasions trying to block blitzing LBs in pass protection. Given these issues, I really can't see Garrett playing this guy much unless he has absolutely no other choice. He's going to get Romo killed.

You and I must have watched a different game or maybe I stepped out of the room. I saw Tanner screw up one run fake and was actually very impressed with his blocking and blitz pickup. Go figure.

Film study showed he got run over 3 times during blitz pickup.

So he picked up and made the block three times. Does it really matter if he gets knocked down in the process. His job is to slow the pass rusher up. Not many RB's are going to maintain a block for any length of time on a linebacker or defensive lineman.

What part of run over are you not understanding?

I'd like to watch some film on his pass pro to draw my own conclusions now. Hmph..

Either way, how many ailments can Felix accrue before he falls apart? Someone has to run the ball in that backfield.

dropped Tanner for Ingram.

Read today that Murray started running and felt good so he might be back week 10 which means this is Tannaer's last shot at production. Given they didn't feed hm the ball after Jones was playing hurt and coughed up a costly fumble, I have 0 expectations for him to produce anyting this week.

At least with Ingram, we know Sproles will be out 2-3 weeks or so after having surgery on his hand today. If he can increase his touches to about 12/game and get goal line work he becomes a viable flex play who could have a floor of 45 yards a ceiling of 70 and a score.

Do you have a link? This would be huge news.

I'm swinging for the fences with Tanner as a flex tonight. I'm benching Avery and Hankerson for him, not exactly studs that I'm sitting here.

It's a decent call. ATL has been beaten up by inside runners this year (ALMO, McGahee). Conversely, they've held shiftier runners in check (McCoy, Mathews, Charles).

Well, that worked out well :wall: Dunbar's getting snaps over him now. Meanwhile, Avery and his 16 points are on my bench.
