Why no auction love at Phenoms Fantasy Football? (1 Viewer)

I know many sharks play the fantasy leagues at Phenoms Fantasy Football run by FBG board regular Unlucky. I've noticed that the sign-ups for the auction leagues are lite thus far compared to the other league styles (ie: regular or slow re-draft). Anyone have any personal thoughts on lack of interest for the auctions thus far?

My personal opinion is that auctions are more challenging and offer many more strategy angles than a normal draft order and I would think a typical shark would prefer that kind of challenge. In fact, many posts here at FBG seem to back-up this notion of the auction as a superior drafting strategy format. What gives sharks?

It's still mid July - patience is a virtue . . .

True enough, but many of the other leagues are full or nearly full and have been for several weeks. It's very possible that these auctions could fill up in due time, but it sures seems to me that they are playing second fiddle to the regular drafting style.

While many of the auction players are very vocal about how much better auctions are than drafts, at the end of the day, serpentine draft is way more popular and it is not really close.Just to note, I do play in both auction and traditional draft leagues.

Thanks for reminding me! I gotta find a spot in one of those leagues. Unlucky in my opinion is the best of the best as far as online leages go. I'll probably join a serpentine and an auction if possible.

I agree though, you hear more from auction drafters and why it's better because they have to lobby. Serpentine is so standard and popular that nobody really needs to talk about it.

No doubt about Unlucky running a great show over at Phenoms. I grudgingly agree about the need to tout auctions over the serpentine which needs no touting. Maybe us auction fanatics are just a vocal minority and will always stay that way?

Did a couple of auction leagues the last two years, just not that good with this method. Play in five new live draft (4 with Phenoms) plus two dynasty leagues. Phenom's are the best I have found. There is lots of room in many other leagues on his (unlucky's) web. Best to all, accept when playing the, Welsh Corgi's....... When does football start ? Go Rams

I have played in auction leagues there the last two years and I agree there should be more auction leagues offered. I guess the primary reason is there just aren't as many experienced auction FFBallers as there are drafters. In addition, beginners would probably be more likely to play (and spend money) on a much simpler draft. Not to mention everybody, including Unlucky to moderate, has to meet for the auction at the same time, and with a draft there are more choices so it is easier to fit your schedule.

I think the points mentioned pretty much sum it up, with the auction guys being more vocal, but the reality is that more people play in draft leagues. Drafting is easier in many ways, especially how you can do almost nothing between your picks, while you have to pay attention more in auctions. Personally, I love auctions since nobody can take my guy one pick before me.

I do think the software at Fantasy Auctioneer has made strides and it's a great interface. However, some computers still have problems with it here and there, which is scarier for many people. They do have a great pre-auction pricing system, so that if you just move the guys you like up a little, and drop the guys you don't want, the computer control is really good.

Finally, it is the slow-drafts that have filled the fastest, since they start earlier and people don't have to commit to a time. The live drafts and auctions will get filled as we get into August and people can plan their time.

The slow draft that I can't wait for is the DEEP Roster draft. Finally a format that allows for a variety of strategies, minimizes the emphasis on a couple of running backs and can reward the guy for trading down in the draft in order to build depth. 4 more slots in the $200 slow draft. Let's fill them up!
