Bush a lesser signing??? Maybe in your 3 team league. Here's a list of all the signings for the year with most occurring in the last couple of days. Half would warrant an in season e-mail. fareAngeloS. HolmesSidney RiceLesser Signings:McNabbHassReggie BushAnd it's been over 2 days of this now. Look, there are services that are provided that I have no use for. But if they stopped and others brought it up, I wouldn't say "so what, who needs it". If you guys don't see the usefulness of email updates, that's fine. But they ARE useful for some. When I'm at work, I don't always have time to keep pulling up websites or feeds to check if something else happened. It's easy for me to get an email notification and pull up the email. This is something that used to be done and isn't anymore for whatever reason. It's disappointing to some even if it's not for you. Thanks for sharing all the ways you get your information but it's not necessarily useful for everyone.
We're also updating the Free Agent Tracker in near real-time. Pretty much 90% of the signings have gone up on the tracker within minutes of being announced, and the rest within an hour or so.
That's great if you get on the site and keep checking the FA Tracker. Look, I understand you can't please everybody. I also know how RSS feeders work and Twitter as well. I've got both, on my computer and on my phone. But neither of those are able to distinguish big news. So I can keep checking on them for the constant updates and read through it all and waste a lot of time if I want. When I'm home and not doing much, that's what I do. But when I'm at work, as I'm sure I can't be the only ones, I can't keep checking my phone for the near constant twitter updates and RSS feed updates. There's tons of noise with that. That's where Breaking News Emails comes in. I don't need constant updates to my email account. I don't need a Breaking News email because Nick Folk signed a 1 year contract. But if DeAngelo Williams signs a huge contract to stay in Carolina when everyone was expecting him to go to Denver or Sidney Rice agrees to a huge deal in Seattle where it was unknown where he was going and these moves have big fantasy implications, I don't see how sending emails about these would be viewed as clutter. Not only that, but this crazy FA period is going to last a matter of days. We're not talking about 20 emails a day for 4 months straight. Using a little discretion, the big news from the last few days would have amounted to 4-5 emails, tops. We've gotten Breaking News emails in the past for some silly stuff, especially in season. But we've still gotten them and while some may not care for them, some do. And this year, with one of the most different and crazy and exciting FA periods in the history of the NFL takes place, this was the time to decide to not send any? Not a one? This is where the human filter of determining which are big and which aren't is useful. A lot of people assume THEIR situation is how it is for others. I try not to do that. But, to give an example, this afternoon I didn't get to do any web surfing from my phone while I was out. But when my phone chimed that I had a new email, which happened a few times during the afternoon, it took all of 2 seconds to look at that briefly and continue what I was doing. I'm not sitting there constantly refreshing my email. Similarly, I can't keep pulling up twitter feed after twitter feed every 10-15 minutes to see what I missed. I can't be the only one that has this type of situation. So while some may not care for emails, some do. As someone else pointed out, I couldn't care less that projections aren't out by Wed morning as promised, but I can see why others would. It takes me no time to move an email I already know about to my trash can. But the time that I'm not connected and receive it as true breaking news for me, it's very appreciated and helpful. So, while I don't count on those emails for all my information and I'll live by finding out about a few of these deals later than others, I just find it odd to pick THIS as the time to completely stop sending them out.Rant over. We're also updating the Free Agent Tracker in near real-time. Maybe to busy to get to a computer but not so busy he can't reach in his pocket and get his smartphone to check email?I can see both sides of this. I personally would prefer to not get the emails, but I can see why some people would want them. With that said:
If you're busy at work, why do you need to know right away whether a player has tentatively agreed to a deal? I mean, if you're too busy to check websites and whatnot, wouldn't you also be too busy to do anything meaningful with a breaking update email? I don't mean that as a criticism, just an honest question - I'm not seeing why you care so much to know right away when a free agent deal is announced. I do support your gripe, though. Like I said, I don't care about the emails but it is a service FBG touts and you wouldn't expect that service to stop during the most exciting FA period, maybe ever. I hadn't noticed but now that you brought it up I'm surprised I haven't gotten any emails about the big name deals that have been announced. When I'm at work, I don't always have time to keep pulling up websites or feeds to check if something else happened. It's easy for me to get an email notification and pull up the email.
I get that; my point is if he's too busy to be on a computer, why does he need to know right away if a player gets traded or something? It's not like he has time to suddenly go on his league website to send out trade offers or do whatever else he would do with that information. But I was just curious about that - I'm the kind of person who doesn't care at this point how soon I find out about this kind of information, the only time I would really need a breaking news email is during my draft, or at like 12:30 on a Sunday. The concept of needing to follow these free agent moves in realtime is a little foreign to me.But my larger point is that it's not my place to determine when or where or why anyone would want access to that information. Just because I don't care to have it doesn't mean thousands of subscribers don't want it. I get Joe's explanation, but like I said, this past week has been a period unlike any we've seen in years. If ever FBG was going to send out breaking news emails, I'd have expected them to do so this week.Maybe to busy to get to a computer but not so busy he can't reach in his pocket and get his smartphone to check email?
Essentially you are saying that the product you get for free (Twitter) is better than the product that you're expected to pay for (Footballguys). For what it's worth, I agree. You'd think that something you're paying for would make it worth your while though, especially when they list it specifically as reason #5 for why you should give them your money.I am glad to have only received the one daily digest e-mail during this period. I like getting breaking news alerts at other times, but this is an unusual time. Everyone knew that for these several days right after an agreement was reached there would be a frenzy of activity. Because there is so much going on, I would prefer to check twitter to see all the latest happenings, and leave the breaking news alerts for the rest of the year.
Because Footballguys specifically listed their phenomenal email update system as a reason that you should pay Footballguys for their services. It's pretty simple. You can argue whether or not this site is worth the subscription fee or not. You can't argue whether or not Footballguys should be providing great email updates to their subscribers, because Footballguys SPECIFICALLY listed their email updates as a reason to subscribe. Footballguys really shouldnt have made that statement in the first place, especially since they have never been particularly good with their email updates. As many people here have stated, you get better information in more effective ways elsewhere from other free sites.I get that; my point is if he's too busy to be on a computer, why does he need to know right away if a player gets traded or something?Maybe to busy to get to a computer but not so busy he can't reach in his pocket and get his smartphone to check email?
