why no love for Gore ? (1 Viewer)

You guys truly don't understand how terrible our o-coordinator was last last year.
This is the truth right here. 49er fans aren't always known for being very vocal about their team, but Mike Nolan keeping Jim Hostler around for so long really set some of us off. Someone even planned to fly a plane over the stadium during a game with a sign behind it saying "Fire Jim Hostler/Mike Nolan" or something (not sure if they went through with it). Martz is smart enough to know what he has here as opposed to what he had in Detroit. Assuming he'll do the same thing here that he did there is baseless. Look at the stats of the offenses he runs. They all improve. I don't understand why he gets such a bad rap.
thats the thing, martz loves to pass and not run. especially if behind or if he feels his Oline cant run block.buyer beware
Gore averaged 450 yards receiving the last two years.

Marshall Faulk averaged just under 900 yards a year under Martz; so what if Martz takes what the Defense gives him. I'd take Faulk's average production under Martz any day of the week ...AVG : 255 - 1374 - 12 - 84 - 881 - 7 ==> 339.5 Fantasy PointsAnd Gore is capable of producing this too!
gore doesnt have the collection of talent around him that faulk did. nor what kjones had around him in detroit either
So what? He probably won't be Faulk II. But if he just produces 75-80% of Faulk's average, Gore's a top 5 RB.

Gore is a testament to modern medicine. But all those injuries still scare me which is why I have never tried to draft him.

He's missed three games in three years.
he blew out both knees in college. That's why he was a late pick
He was the #1 pick in the third round. #65 overall. I understand he got hurt in college. I also realize he's been in the NFL for 3 seasons so I think it's time to start taking that into account. It's like me saying I'm not going to draft Fred Taylor because I remember when he used to be hurt!

Hey, I'm staying away from Isaac Bruce too. Can't be too careful.

Two reasons I don't like Gore as my first round pick

Martz had a horrible history with his RBs in Detroit
Gore has never had more than 8 rushing TDs in a season. IMO, that's not worthy of being a 1st round pick
Not true, in my 2006 ppr league KJ under Martz finished as the 12th scoring RB for the year. He was also injured for 4 weeks and in weekly average he finished at #6 RB in scoring.
:goodposting: also K.Jones was on pace for 1600 total yds and 13 tds that season. I like Gore more than Jones

This is what tips the scales for me. Gore don't score. RB1? No thanks.
He was RB8 or 9 last year and he just scored 5 rushing TDs. SF has improved its scheme by adding Martz and its talent by adding Bruce and Johnson. I certainly don't see that as being a negative for Gore's prospects this year.
Read somewhere on an AOL site ( their free fantasy football league manager site) , that Martz has described the practices as 'controlled chaos' so far...reports are that Alex Smith looks l-o-s-t, things aren't working, and the writer, apparently one who has been to many training camps before, says this might be the worst team he's ever seen in any training camp he's ever gone to..I know its early, but we're talking Martz + Smith here...

That's a bit of an exageration, but yeah they had a bad practice yesterday. Here's a local article. http://49ers.pressdemocrat.com/default.asp...45042&mode=

An excerpt.

The 49ers' passing game looked just as Mike Martz described it the other day - "organized chaos" - though I'm not sure about the organized part. The offense is clearly going through some growing pains.

On most plays, it seems as if someone ran a wrong route, the quarterback threw to the wrong receiver or there was some other breakdown along the way.

I've never paid attention so closely to the opening week of training camp, but I can't believe it has ever been like this. It's difficult to believe they'll be able to function in a game setting on Aug. 8 against the Raiders.

But they will. As ragged as the 49ers looked this morning, this is probably to be expected with a new, complex system being installed and two quarterbacks sharing the load.

"They'll start making progress, probably after seven or eight days," Martz said on Monday. "Then, they'll feel much more comfortable with this information."

It seems as if the offense was looking better every day of practice. This morning the unit clearly took a step backward.

No reason to push the panic button on the sixth day of camp. After all, some aspects of the team look a lot better, such as the receivers. But this morning's work on the field provided an indication that this offense takes a while for the players to absorb.
Sounds like growing pains while adapting to a complex Martz scheme. Besides, no one's claiming they will be anywehre near top 10 offense or anything. They don't need to be for Gore to be worth a first round pick.

Then have at it and good luck. I still contend Martz is overrated, the QBs are a mess, and although an upgrade, am not exactly dazzled by the aging Bruce or underwhleming Johnson. Gore might be fine, I just prefer to take chances w/others as my go-to RB.

In a PPR, sure grab Gore. Non-PPR, I wouldn't touch him. Been over this several times now, Martz is not good for the 49ers. His scheme won't work there. Might put up decent numbers for a bit, but overall not a good signing IMO.

On another note, I'd be shocked if anyone who drafted Gore last season won a championship riding him. The guy is pretty overrated imo
